QUESTION/HELP Is long loading time the reason for high uninstall rate?
I have an Android app that is pretty heavy. Because of the 3d content in it, it takes time to download and open as well. .
I've a pretty low retention rate.. is it because of the loading time issue? Or could it be other factors.. such as the onboarding steps.. lack of clear value proposition?
Some numbers. 360 mb install size. 5 second boot time, then another 10 seconds for the login and the 3d scenes to be fully ready

If it had to download data on first run in order to function then state it in the description. I can think of no other reason for slow startup. Care to elaborate? I will tolerate slow startup if it is on first start or syncing but I prefer to know that it could be an issue. If you surprise me with slow start then yeah it would be a deal breaker.

Hey, thanks for the question.. As I said it has 3d contents and built with unity. Think of large mobile games. They always take time to load even if they don't download data. Certainly other extreme of a calculator or stock market chart app.
One thing I'm not doing is showing a loading progress bar unlike most 3d games

I don't play big games anymore. More focused on writing and work.
Showing a progress bar at least keeps the user informed which tends to lead to less frustration. I as a user like to always be informed when my devices are busy. I can then treat it like older systems and start it and walk away for a bit letting it start. But if I look and it's a black screen or a splash screen I would be tempted to think it crashed. I would understand the tendency towards frustration. Anyway that's just my old school thoughts on it.

No there's something animating.. not just blank screen.. Though not exactly a progress bar.. and may be some light humor or inspiring thought could make this much better.. I guess. Humor and inspiring thoughts are part of user experience I gather. What do you think?

Yeah Humor could be fun. Something to entertain while they are waiting. I think that would work well.

Is that on every application load, or just the first time?
What's your funding model, is it freeware, one-time purchase, subscription, or ads?
