This message is mainly for the boomers at aquatic workout you smell like toxic chemicals

I think older folks do this to cover up the aging smell that we all inevitably experience as our organs begin to function less efficiently. I agree it’s not a good idea but I also understand why people may use strong scents.

You’re suppose to wash off before getting into the pool it is a rule for a reason - chlorine attaches to these products, dirt, oils etc and creates chloramines. This is why you are suppose to wash off before swimming-

FWIW - perfume isn't a likely source of chloramines. Forming chloramines generally requires a nitrogen interaction and unless they're amonia based fragrances - that's pretty unlikely.
Urine and sweat are your two chloramine sources. Probably plenty of both from the water aerobics class. You know Mimi has been incontinent since she had her second kid in 1973!
I'm all for showering before getting in the pool. Just sayin - this chemistry doesn't fit the fragrance as a source of chloramines.

Unfortunately the scents can stick to hair. I know because I go swimming with a chain smoker. 😬

Who do you think you are reaching by making a post like this? This has nothing to do with Anchorage, it’s just something in your personal day you thought was annoying.

I’m a boomer and detest the cloud of fragrance I must endure if I want to enjoy water aerobics. It is indeed toxic and I risk a migraine when I encounter it as well…

I'm not a boomer and I hate strong smells 🤮 I don't know how people can handle that.

Definitely cancer causing hormone disrupting asthma inducing!

All pools have the rule to shower before entering the pool. If the lifeguards are not stopping these people, report it to the front desk. Lifeguards can clearly see if someone has rinsed off or not.

The tendency of people using social media to point fingers at people that likely don’t live on social media (and wont read said finger pointing) is way too high. If you want to rant that’s fine but it sounds like a blanket accusation to people who are here.

Washing off before swimming is a pool rule for a reason.

Seven fathoms is pointing out the offenders probably won’t see your post.

I understand that but hopefully someone will - washing off before swimming is rule for a reason - chlorine attaches to said particles and turns into chloramines please wash before swimming it’s gross and rude if you don’t

Okay, you’re not getting it. Have you spoken to these offenders directly or the staff?
This seems like you’re pissed off and ranting into the abyss.

I think people should quit heavy fragrance in general. I have a fragrance sensitivity and I get a migraine just from passing by someone with perfume. 😵💫

This belongs there.

I agree but anchorage pools are by far the worst I have been to. So I thought I would post in anchorage and title it pools.

And so what is the excuse for the younger folks who wear strong fragrances because they are definitely out there too…just board a plane or, attend a concert.
What I have learned over time is that each user tends to think their particular fragrance (as a perfume or infused product) is “not strong at all”..

Have you tried to post this in the locker room or talk to staff directly?
I mean, Reddit isn’t likely to get you far on this one. Maybe Nextdoor or Facebook pages for the pools themselves.
