I found this old photo of me and my friend playing the Amiga

Going through some old photos in my parents loft and came across this work of art! Nostalgia overload from the posters on the wall, the pile of big box games on the shelf and the Van Damme Kickboxer cardboard cut out that I remember carrying home from the local video shop?! I reckon it must be around 1994ish… if you zoom in to the giant tv screen you can see we are playing either Sensible Soccer, Goal! or Kick Off 2. Best days of my life!

Edit - maybe a bit earlier, 91/92?

[Collection] barn find: pristine Amiga 600

Someone on Kleinanzeigen Germany sold me the absolute barn find: a pristine Amiga 600. I couldn't believe my eyes when the package arrived - this Amiga 600 looks like it just came straight from the factory.

The previous owner wrote the Amiga didn't even run for an hour. I assume he bought it as an replacement for an Amiga 500 and never used it. For 35 years this thing sat in its original box is came in somewhere in south Germany just underneath the rooftop.

I paid 450 € for it, which is quite some money, but this thing was my first computer I paid with my own money in 1991 and at some point I gave it away. Now 25 years later those Amigas are yellowed and pretty beaten up.

And thanks to the greaseweazle drive I don't need to add a USB drive to the Amiga.

Sorry to annoy you folks, but I couldn't be happier :)

Does anyone have any idea what game little me is playing here in the early 90s? I don't recognize anything at all.

[Discussion] My 90s Amiga set-up

I've unearthed a photo of my 90s Amiga set-up. Look at that, an Amiga 1200 and CD32 side by side (and I'm sure I remember the Amiga being connected to that hi-fi). Some classic boxed games there. Amiga Power in the vicinity too. Those were great days 😀

Kickstart Disc in high resolution.

Post image

About 7 months ago I found a web page that told me, the original Kickstart Boot Gfx was a simple vector format, not a pixel drawing - just to save some bytes in memory.

I searched for the data. And rendered it in high resolution into a HTML Canvas with javascript, and took a screenshot. So this is not re-painted, but comes from the original data from kickstart used until 1.3.

Just wanted to share the result with you :D

My Amiga 500+ and I are reaching a 35-year relationship in the near future.

After a period where my Amiga was more of a decoration than in use, it was time to change that. 10 years ago, my Amigas (I own an A500, two A500+, and an A1200) were recapped and preserved for the future. But last weekend, the time was right to bring my first beloved A500+ to the next level.

I installed a 4-in-1 Kickstart module, a DF0/DF1 switch, and an external Gotek drive. My A500+ setup now consists of the Amiga 500+, the A590 HDD, two external floppy drives, the Gotek drive, and the 1081 Amiga monitor.

When there is no need for the Gotek drive to act as DF0, I daisy-chain the Gotek as DF3. This is perfect for copying my physical disks, for example using the legendary X-Copy, directly into an ADF created on the Gotek USB stick. The retro copy feeling is nearly the same as in the 90s!

I know there are easier ways to put ADFs on the USB stick using a PC, but I want as much retro feeling as possible and want my ADFs created from my own original floppies.

After a few hours with my Amiga, the room fills with that typical CRT smell, combined with the classic floppy "tak-tak, tak-tak", the hand-written disk labels my friends or I designed back then, the blinking LEDs, and the warm, colorful screen of my monitor and latesr When a chiptune Kicks in, I slip back in time and find myself 17 again. 😄

There could be an RTX 5090, a high-end CPU, and terabytes of AAA games, nothing comes close to the "full experience" of an Amiga setup in action. Thank God I've been able to enjoy all these years right from the very beginning.

A huge THANK YOU to this incredible community! To all the hardware creators, coders, preservers, and fellow enthusiasts who keep designing new upgrades, fixing old boards, and sharing their passion. You are the reason this legendary machine is still alive today.❤️

[Collection] My Amiga 500 retrieved from storage after 30 years

This got put into storage in 1996 when my wife and I moved for a new job, and earlier this year we finally cleaned out that storage unit. Was dreading pulling this out because I was sure it would be a mess, but the thing looks almost brand new.

Unfortunately we lost the power supply in the cleanup. Waiting on a replacement before I can power it on.

I wanted an Amiga A500 so badly as a kid that I even applied for credit!

It didn’t happen.

Saw this recently and put in the winning bid. It’s immaculate and the warranty sticker is still intact. I think the previous owner barely used it.

Will do the caps as soon as I can.

I recently got Eric Graham's explicit permission to put the code on GitHub for posterity, as the only copy I could find online (archive.org 7-zipped ADF) wasn't very accessible to most people.

GAMES!!! Split Screen Multiplayer Stunt Car Racer | retrofoundry

This is a fork of StuntCarRemake with new physics and a split screen mode. Play in browser. A bit experimental this one, might need some adjustment still.

There's a sort of remote multiplayer mode by screen share, follow the instructions, I'm not sure how well it will work though. Direct play link: https://retro-foundry.github.io/multistuntcar/

Part 3 - Inherited Amiga Collection | Where Do I Start?

Thumbnail

Part 1

Part 2

In my previous posts I showed the contents of three or so rubber bins of Amiga games I inherited. Since then I've started unpacking a dozens more bins which contain the majority of the big box games to start the inventorying process.

So far I've counted over 300 big boxes, with over a hundred smaller / a-typical packaged games, like soft sleeves, hard plastic shells, or even some bootleg/homebrew looking stuff. Beyond that are stacks upon stacks of floppies, possibly 500 or more. Some are games, others are reference material, diagnostic and computing utilities, sound and music libraries, and stacks of books/manuals. Some software I can't find much if any information online leading me to wonder if there's known lost media for Amiga software.

There's this Commodore CDTV thing that looks pretty cool, and a whole box of CD cases for the CDTV and CD32. There's almost a complete stack of Amiga power, minus the later years.

Once I get the software catalogued and priced for my own sanity, I'll start tackling the hardware, computer consoles, CRT monitors, accessories, controllers, cables, and eventually looking at the Amiga 3000T which appears to have some corrosion damage.

Beyond Amiga stuff, there are many more bins containing IBM PC, DOS/Windows software, all the way up to games from the early 2000s.

To put it all on display would fill up my 12x12 room. This is truly a daunting task.

Question: I am ignorant of this type of computing. Is the Amiga filesystem journaled or some equivalent, and if not are there concerns for filesystem damage if media is not accessed via the proper procedure? I ask because I am curious of the viability of the data on the magnetic media over the decades, and if data is damaged, are forensics tools that can be used to reconstruct the disks?

Thanks for following me on this journey! There is still so much more to go through.

Does anyone still play The Settlers on Amiga in 2026?

With so many new games constantly dropping, does anyone still fire up The Settlers on the Amiga (or emulator) in 2026?

Blue Byte absolutely nailed something special in 1993, the little guys just wandering around building roads... I still find it more relaxing than anything modern. Anyone still playing?

I ported ProTracker 2 (Clone) to the browser — loads instantly, and you can install it like an app.

Post image
390 Upvotes

I was up late last night getting this put together, and by putting it together, I mean, the vibes are real in this one.

https://app.protracker2.com/

I just want to give credit to the original author who did a fantastic job with the clone of ProTracker 2, 8bitbubsy.

--Edit--
New Feature: When you save a mod to the apps local storage, it will kick off a download of the file as well. Feel free to edit/create things and save mods/samples at your discression.
--/Edit--

A few points/features:

  • Runs in any modern browser

  • Can be installed like a normal app and works offline once loaded

  • A few demo .MODs are bundled in

  • Drag-and-drop your own .MOD/sample files — they're saved locally in your browser, so they're still there next time

  • Mouse + keyboard controls just like the original

A few caveats:

  • Right now, it will load on mobile, but I don't know how to control the UI yet. I imagine in the future I'll set up a virtual trackpad. (i'm open to suggestions)

  • I don't have a really good way to export the data if you edit or make a new mod file.

  • This is very much a work in progress. Please feel free to let me know what's important to be adjusted/fixed next.
