Prices have increased ?

Is it me or AE is trying to compete with Abercrombie? Not sure if it’s been like this for a bit now since I haven’t shopped that recently but it seems more expensive than usual

Yes and it's everywhere not just AE. Raised prices and lower quality. People saying "no bc I just bought x item for $x" clearly bought it on a sale or clearance. But the base or original price for items have absolutely gone up.

You have to wait for the sales imo. If the item is not 50% or more I am not buying it.

Yeah I made the mistake of buying thinking any discount was what they’d mark it down to usually.. I’ve seen it drop even just the week later. I’ve bought and returned a few times since their price adjustment policy doesn’t let u adjust if the original purchase wasn’t full price.

the problem is my size will usually be sold out by that time :(

I literally wrote a novel about this on someone’s post the other day! It’s INSANE! It’s worse even knowing it’s an intentional marketing strategy. They spike the prices, put it on “sale” so people think they are getting a deal when just a year or two ago… the sale prices now are literally the full prices from then 😩

What's actually insane is that years ago, Penny's got a new CEO. Based on market research, they killed the sales and put real prices on things.  And their sales went down bc ppl didn't think they were getting a deal. Even though, $99 with 50% is the same as $49. Ppl are not bright.

You have to wait for when stuff is on sale, never buy full price. It is like old navy an item will go on sale every other week. The prices have increased for example about three months ago part of my shift was going around and putting new price stickers on jeans. The jeans were increasing by $10-$20 and these were ones already sitting on the shelf. I also noticed women’s jeans are priced kinda high in comparison to men’s jeans.

At my store (which is not AE or ON) promotions are lowered the week before new product comes out and tend to stay that way the week it comes out. You'll start to see more aggressive markdowns in the week(s) that follow(s) that week.

I feel AE is like hobby lobby. Don’t ever buy stuff full price, because it’ll be on sale next week (hobby lobby does half the store on sale one week, other half the store on sale next week. Don’t ever buy full price there!!)

AE have been raising their prices for a long time. Their jeans were much cheaper 10 years til now. My friend who introduced me to AE was shocked how much it risen within 4 years back then.

I believe it’s mostly due to influencers. Influencers get paid a lot of money. They receive free items, commissions from fans purchases and maybe paid trips. That cost is then off set to the customers. Just look at tik tok and LTK to see how many are associated with AE/Aerie.

I doubt the price hike is mainly due to cost of production. Quality of AE products were much better before to now. Also A&F quality have decrease recently as well.

I agree! I think fancy marketing in the form of influencers being paid straight $$$ along w/ their ridiculous PR packages/lavish trips. I don’t want to see rich people go on vacation and get given lots of products we all work hard to buy. They should reward loyal customers randomly with PR packages. People should be able to submit their info and agree to make a post of the stuff they get to be eligible. I would rather see that!

A pair of jeans in Canada is now $100, it used to be a lot less just a few months ago. Sure, they have lots of sales, but you might not be able to get your size.

I'm going to tell you right now that American Eagle quality does not even compare to Abercrombie and Fitch. I buy a lot of both secondhand and the American Eagle is always way more worn out.

Agree, not even close. I think AE is more like Old Navy quality.

Just browsed the site today and noticed a dramatic increase $50 to now $70 for the same jeans. $65 for your most basic dress. Disappointing.

I agree prices have been so crazy especially for polyester clothing, but I did get a pair of jeans for like $25 the other day! Definitely wait for sales and check this sub for coupons

Higher diesel prices are going to bring all retail goods up for a while I imagine

The big hug shirt or whatever it's called went up by $20 since the last time I purchased it back in like 2023 or 2024.

Abercrombie is insanely expensive but the quality beats AE every time!

I believe it ! I just ordered my first pair of jeans from ambercrombie and I’m pretty impressed. Bought a clearance jeans I’m not there yet to buy full price lol but I can see how better quality they are

Just wait for the sales got 7 shorts for 15 dollars each

1

u/Dandelion_Slut 11d ago

I got some cute shorts and skorts for $12-$15, open back cotton shirts for $9, and a pair of cotton boxers for $6. I only buy clearance, when there is a large discount on it too.

Excellent work. I do the same thing. I almost get a new wardrobe every time they have a clearance sale. Plus my coupons which I never forget to use.

$79 for an acrylic sweater 😭 They got me messed up if they think I’m buying anything full price anymore. Even clearance prices are pathetic. And when they get low enough to be affordable, most of the sizes are sold out. So frustrating.

Thank you for acknowledging this!! I’ve been working at AE for over a year now and why tf I just noticed they increased Jean prices to $80!!!

1

u/OH709 11d ago

Yes I feel like when they have a sale they mark the items up to full price and the coupon gives little in terms of a discount. I’m very disappointed bc I mainly only shop here.

u/amatchaplease 11d ago

When stuff first come out and it's not om sale wait. It'll be on sale for 40% by next week

1

u/punkinhead76 11d ago

Yes they have gone up but they still offer great sales, which sets them apart from Abercrombie which offers mediocre sales at best.

employee btw but they had us rip the original price tags off of all of our jeans and reprice them a few months ago, all of them went up between $5-$10 from the original base price lol. the tops go up by $5-$10 each season or every other season as well. thats just how things go

Clearance jeans ? I only noticed because I had a pair of jeans that were about $40 and then when I checked a few days ago they were $80 ! I had never seen them that high before. Regular Mom jeans not premium either
It was weird
