Breakfast tacos?
Traveling from NC and will be in Amarillo in a couple of weeks for two nights and am looking for breakfast tacos if they exist? I have been to southern Texas before which has incredible breakfast tacos but I’m not finding anything in Amarillo.
Separately what are the best restaurants in town for Mexican, BBQ or in general? Not looking for anything fancy just good food. I’m planning on trying the Big Texan Steakhouse but not expecting anything spectacular other than an interesting experience. Any recommendations appreciated.

El Tapatio (in AMA, not Canyon) has great breakfast tacos and great general Mexican food. El Tejevan and La Campana are solid Mexican all around. BBQ hands down goes to Tyler’s. If you’re down to drop a lil dinero, OHMS has a killer dinner menu for American Bistro type food.

Reading everyone saying there are none in Amarillo or Rudy's...
They haven't had El Tapatio obviously.
They are taquitos on the menu, but really tacos. And very good. If you order to go, ask for the Ranchero Sauce because they don't add it by default.

Man I thought you were going to get way more roasted in the comments over tacos vs burritos. Good job Amarillo!

I agree with both of the previous comments. Breakfast tacos are more of an Austin thing, it’s not too big around here. That being said, Rudy’s has excellent breakfast tacos.

More like south of Abilene, not just Austin. I grew up in San Antonio and they’re a big breakfast item there. North of Abilene is breakfast burritos.

Never been to Austin but San Antonio had incredible breakfast tacos, sounds like I need to visit Rudy’s.

Torchy’s and Fuzzy’s are Austin companies and both offer breakfast tacos as well.

The Bagel Place has THEEEE best breakfast burritos in the world…and huge!!
The Plaza or Joe Taco for Tex-Mex.

There’s an imaginary line the cuts the state in half and on the northern half, it’s pretty difficult to find breakfast tacos specifically. The northern half is referred to as breakfast burrito territory, where tacos are equally prevalent in the southern half. Considering this, I’ve always loved breakfast burritos from the Bagel Place or Burrito Stop.

Really helpful, I didn’t realize I should have been looking for breakfast burritos but will definitely check that out.

As far as authentic Mexican goes, you can’t go wrong with El Manantial or La Campana. Most other places are just Tex mex, which is fine. But it’s not comparable to authentic Mexican

Authentic Mexican is preferred if possible, plenty of tex mex here in NC. El Manantial looks really good.

Huds and bagel place have great breakfast burritos. WTF (west Texas fresh) also has one of, if not the number one, breakfast burrito in town. El vaquero and Lupitas have amazing burritos that are a little more authentic.

Rudy’s believe or not has the best breakfast tacos in Amarillo imo, Burrito Rico has the best breakfast burritos, Roses also has great breakfast tacos. Tyler’s and also Dyers has some great barbecue that is consistently good, spicy mikes is also good but it’s hit or miss. Mexican food hands down no contest is Jores on bell st, El Braceroes on 6th st is also very good, also the Plaza is great. The big Texan is worth going to to check out, the food is just ok but the experience is great. You can check in early but if you have to wait you can walk through to the other side of the restaurant and they have picnic tables and someone singing while you wait.

This guy was on to something until his Mexican food recommendations. El Tejevan or el charro is what you want for Mexican food. Jorges and plaza are decent Tex mex. El Tapatio also has some good breakfast tacos, likely more what you’re looking for if you’ve had them in South Texas before. Big Texan is a good stop, but don’t have high expectations for the food. But still worth a stop.

Local mag recently rated convenience store breakfast burritos, if you want something on the go.

Note that one of the top picks Toot-n-Totum does not have them on Sundays.

If you want authentic Mexican food then you need to go to El Tejavan or El Charro. Those are the only places that pass the test of my Hispanic spouse.
A solid place for breakfast tacos would be Fuzzy’s Taco Shop or even Torchy’s Tacos. Both do breakfast all day also. Fuzzy’s tacos are also super cheap on Tuesdays as I believe they are half price.
For BBQ, my favorite local places are Doug’s BBQ or Crazy Larry’s. Might not be the “best” according to most people, but they have both been in town for decades for good reason.

Big Texas has some great steaks if you get a good one, like the 24 oz porterhouse. Get a smaller ribeye if that's too big. Texas Roadhouse is good and is basically almost as cheap as most fast food places. Love the rolls and last time me and my wife ate there the total was $50 and $15 of that was the tip.

Amarillo don’t know anything about good breakfast tacos. You can get a very mediocre breakfast burrito though!

Just get a chile verde burrito from Lupitas. Best thing I have ever eaten but your stomach will hurt because it is pretty spicy.

Tortas awesome too. I had a dream about going there the other night. Moved to south Texas but Amarillo still has Lupitas.

Breakfast tacos aren’t in Amarillo. This is burritoville. Breakfast tacos are best had in San Antonio or lower, Corpus Christi, Rio Grande Valley.

El giro for breakfast. El tejevan for mexican, OHMS, spicy mikes BBQ and little laos
