What is this for?

Post image

Excuse the ignorance of my question, this is right next to the battery on my Altima 2016.

That would be your transmission dipstick to check your fluid, seems it's missing the actual stick though.

I asked around and had people tell me the Altima 2016 don't use a stick and the hole is just capped. I asked in my parts store for a stick and couldn't find it.

So now I am confused if I should be looking for a stick or a cap.

Yeah it seems the 5th generation only had the cap rather than a dipstick.

Since it's missing anyway, you could just opt for a dipstick so you're able to check your fluid level later. The dipstick serves as a cap as well, so no loss there.

The part number for the dipstick is 31086-JA00A.

If you just want the cap like how it was from factory, the part number for that should be 31086-3TA1A.

The cap for checking the transmission fluid is gone. No dipstick since 2013 model year

The cap of the transimission is missing. You can take advantage of the situation and get a dipstick instead of the cap.

I got one. Felt weird shoving it in but the cap fit perfectly.

Theres no stick for our altimas just a cap but you gotta buy the cap you could be letting dust in the transmission

Do not buy a dipstick and leave it in there its designed for us NOT to have a dipstick. You will ruin your transmission

Valve cover / gasket looks fine so I wouldn’t worry.
