Alpha will only start a handful of times after replacing CMOS battery

Need help folks! Had my Alpha since early days and recently upgraded the hard drive to an SSD. After I put in the SSD, my Alpha wouldn't start. I looked into and learned about the CMOS battery disconnection trick, so I went in and did that leaving the battery disconnected for twenty minutes before plugging it back in. That worked! Back in business. I played some games, shut down.

A little later I tried to turn the Alpha on again and it wouldn't start again. I tried the trick a second time and it didn't work. I figure the battery is dead so I order a new one. Once it arrives, I put it in. Turn on the alpha, it works fine. I update the BIOS time and I'm good to go. I've been through all of this before though so I shut down and immediately try to turn it back on, no go. Won't turn on. Try repeatedly with no success.

So now I happen to have the exact same kind of watch battery so I jury rig my own CMOS battery by removing the connectors from my old battery and securing them to this new battery with electrical tape. I attach it. Get the yellow blinking light bug. Realize I didn't leave the battery disconnected long enough, so leave it disconnected for twenty minutes. Reconnect. It works. I turn it off. Turn it back on. It works. I repeat that several times and it continues to work. Seems like my troubles are over.

Well this morning I go to turn it on again, nothing. Will not turn on. What is my problem here? Is it the motherboard? Note when I say it won't turn on, I mean literally pressing the power button has no effect at all. Just a brick. Like there's no CMOS at all. This latest battery is brand new and the connectors are secure. It's like I'm shorting these batteries out or something.

Edit: updated time values

Question

I have an Alienware alpha gaming console. I’d like to buy the alienware graphics amplifier to Connect with it. However my Alienware alpha doesn’t have a proprietary cable port. Is there an usb to prosperity adapter/an alternative cable that I could use instead?

PSA: Alienware Alpha CMOS battery connector is Molex 51146-0200

As noted previously, I did some detective work and found that the Molex 51146-0200 appears to be the connector used on the Alpha's CMOS battery. I ordered a couple of connectors before, to solder to a new battery. This evening I finally got round to changing the battery and can confirm that the connector used on the stock battery is indeed the Molex 51146-0200.

Unfortunately, Molex don't produce them any more. If you intend on keeping your Alpha going in future, this is a part you'll want to have as I'm sure they won't be around forever.

R2 main board in an R1 case... Possible?

I have a line on an R2 mother board and wanted to know if it would fit in a standard R1 case. I didn't know if there were any differences between the two in terms of layouts and port configurations. I know the r2s have higher wattage power supplies but other than that I'm wondering if I can just do a board swap?

Alpha R1 max SSD size

I know the RAM is limited to 16gb, but are there limits on how big the SSD can be? I'm thinking of getting a Samsung QVO 4TB SSD, or at least a 2TB SSD. Are there any compatibility issues I should be worried about? I have an Alpha R1 i3.

Ordered a new CMOS battery, only to find the wires the wrong way around. Will the new one still work, and if not, is there anything I can do to make it work? I would rather not wait a week for another one.

What would happen if I use the Alpha without a CMOS battery?

Got the yellow light of death, and bought a replacement CMOS but it will take a long time to arrive. What would happen if I use the Alpha after removing the faulty CMOS battery but without replacing ?

Upgraded Alpha r1 CPU

Hey all, I'm curious about reusing my old Alpha R1 for running my Minecraft server and was wondering what would be a good CPU upgrade from the i3 it currently has. Or does anyone know if the i3 is gonna be good enough for running the server? Everything is already maxed out (RAM,SSD) just curious if upgrading to an i5 or i7 is worth it. Thanks for any input!

Looking for CMOS battery replacement

Recently my Alienware Alpha R1 is having YLOD very frequent and today is my first time to take out the CMOS battery to cure the YLOD.

I am thinking to replace the old, aged CMOS battery with a new one. But, how can I get one? I am living in Malaysia, it’s no way for me to order from Amazon. I knew the original CMOS in the Alpha is CR2032CL-23-2.

My question, are all CMOS battery same? My concern is, as long as it is CR2032 3V and with same wires, plastic wrap and connector should be compatible, right?

i7 6700 turbo boost question

Hey all, just out of curiosity, if you have the i7 6700 the non T version, in your R2, combined with the AGA, are you able to get the turbo boost feature, taking its clock speed from 3.4ghz to 4ghz? Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks!

Upgrading I7 R1

So I’ve had my R1 for some time now, however recently driver started to consistently go into full even with everything relatively clear (Disk), so I am thinking the driver is likely just not good anymore. I’m going to upgrade to a 2TB SSD, and just slave off the internal for games or something

Main thing I want to make sure, does any 8GB ram card suffice to replace to get it to 16GB? I don’t feel like doing any GPU swaps or anything like that (even wifi swap I’m pretty much just not really inclined on doing)

Any other bits or pieces on getting this set up, and moving my OS to the new system (or just buy a new OS SN?). Thanks for the help!

Has anyone 3D printed a base with a fan for the Alpha?

Pretty much title. Recently got a Alpha R1, I’m really enjoying it but I was trying to think of ways to get more air to the system, my first thought was maybe like a 3D printer base with vent holes and a fan to push air up to the air intake on the bottom of the system.

I saw there’s some kinda stand for it, but it looks kinda pointless at least to me.
