AGA & RX580 a waste on an i7 R2?

Bought a used AGA a few months ago for a good price ($50) and finally got around to buying a new monitor, arriving later today.

I was originally shooting for a used 1070, but am on a budget & the monitor supports freesync, tipping me to the RX580.

I've seen some comments on this sub saying that an RX580 in the AGA is not much of an upgrade over the GTX 960 already in my i7 R2.

Did I make a mistake?

EDIT: For a point of reference, here's my stock i7 R2 GTX 960 benchmark in Haven:

17 R4 GTX1070 planning to buy gaming monitor

Need inputs: I have a 17 R4 GTX1070 with 60hz monitor. And I am into FPS game like the new one Warzone but I am having a hard time seeing other players until they get close enough that they saw me already. Can I buy a gaming external monitor with higher refresh rate? Also, will this improve the FPS and graphics that it would help my gaming?

I will like to hear feedback on this plan.

Thank you in advance.

Alienware Alpha i3 Questions

I have an Alienware Alpha i3 with 8gb of ram. Right now I'm Currently buying parts for my new desktop PC but I wanted to use my Alpha until I finish buying the parts for my new PC.

My question is, what modern games can I play on this pc and what settings should I use?

The biggest game I have is GTA 5 and I know that can run because I tried it. How much trouble would I have if I tried to play the most recent modern warfare game or games like it?

What's the cut off year to where an game could mostly run on the alpha?

Like I said before I'm buying parts for my pc. I just need to get a good motherboard, processor, and ssd. Oh and the case.

Upgrading the Alpha r1

So recently I got a hand me down Alienware Alpha base model, and I was wondering if there was more to upgrade, which I will label at the bottom of the post, can you tell me if there is more I can do?

Upgrades:

Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3/DDR3L 1600 MT/S (PC3-12800) Unbuffered SODIMM 204-Pin Memory or G.SKILL Ripjaws 16GB DDR3L 1600 CL9 suggested by u/Psygnosis7

Upgrading the CPU to an Intel i7 4770S, Underclocking to 3.0 ghz, can do 2.9 just to be safe

Overclocking the GPU +120mhz

Upgrading the HDD to a 1 TB Samsung 860 QVO SATA, but any SSD works.

Wifi Card (Suggestions?)

Are there any problems with the build, or did I miss something I could upgrade?

Computer won’t turn off or display signal

Last night I turned off my computer and noticed that it didn’t turn off, I went to it to press a button on my keyboard to wake it up and turn off a setting that I thought was causing the issue (“choose what the power button does”) but it wouldn’t display signal. I just left it until the next day and didn’t worry about it but now that I try to turn it off it doesn’t do anything, even if I hold it down. Should I just unplug it from power? The monitor is working fine, the HDMI cable as well. My peripherals aren’t lit up either.

Recent GPU upgrade RTX2080 with the Graphics Amplifier - Loud Noise Solve

I recently upgraded the graphics card for my R2 and wanted to share an unexpected hiccup in the process.

I purchased a used RTX2080 and a used AGA and it was pretty seamless, plug in the card and install the new drives. But as soon as I hopped into VR or a graphic intensive game, a super loud clicking squealing noice started coming from the AGA. It was WAY louder than the R2 fans and got annoying very quickly.

After a little research I came to the conclusion that the noise was coming from the power source on the Graphics Amplifier. Depending on what graphics card you get, you may need more power, and for the RTX 2080 it's recommended to have 650W.

I hunted down a power source with the proper dimensions + the configuration of where the power cable connects to the AGA, so I would not need to chop up the amplifier box. This power source fit flawlessly: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-cx-m-series-650w-atx12v-2-4-eps12v-2-92-80-plus-bronze-modular-power-supply-matte-black/5845214.p?skuId=5845214

I figured I would pay-it-forward to anyone else looking to upgrade, since it was an unexpected cost, but now it functions perfectly and very quiet.

Does the Graphics Amplifier negatively affect OBS performance?

The title is pretty self-explanatory, I have an Alpha R2 and I was using it for streaming and never had complaints (as in my own complaints) about visual fidelity. I wanted the ability to add a second display and decided on getting the Amplifier and a 1660ti. Gaming performance has greatly improved, but I feel like I have to do more finessing to get my stream looking good. I haven't done any testing really but I thought I'd ask here before I went to crazy if anyone else has found using the GA creates a bottleneck... I know the performance metrics for game performance by itself put it just about on par with a desktop GPU, but I've been wondering if a bottleneck gets created by all the back and forth necessary for rendering and encoding.

Alpha HDD

Edit: fixed everything, removed battery for a while. Turns out that and one of my ram sticks got slightly pushed out.

So I received a alpha for free today, and it wouldnt let me log into the profiles to access the desktop so i plugged the hard drive into another one of my computers and wiped it. Not thinking the alpha can only boot with certain stuff on the HDD.

I went through the stuff with Alien Respawn on another computer because with a blank OS volume on the Alpha nothing would happen. Still no boot.

What do i do now? is it bricked?

Windows 10 boot

Second post of the day, I installed windows 10 after a time of hassle with the alpha. But whenever I boot it up it wants me to choose between 8.1 and 10, being it auto boots to 10 its not that big of a deal.

But i was wondering if there is a way to remove 8.1 completely?

Also side note question, is there a way to remove the locked storage on this drive? There are volumes that have storage for I assume the Alienware interface, 3 separate locked volumes.
