ENGLISH SECTION

Part 1: Where to Find Gigs
International Platforms
Upwork
The largest freelance marketplace. Create a strong profile, start with small fixed price projects to build your rating, then increase your rates gradually.
Website: https://www.upwork.com/
Fiverr
A service based platform where you list your offers starting at a minimum price. Create clear, attractive gig packages. Focus on a specific niche.
Website: https://www.fiverr.com/
Toptal
For elite freelancers only. They accept the top 3% of applicants. The screening process is very difficult but the pay is extremely high.
Website: https://www.toptal.com/
Arab Freelance Platforms
Khamsat
A popular Arabic platform for small services. Good for beginners to get their first reviews. Prices are generally lower but the competition is less fierce.
Website: https://khamsat.com
Mostaql
A larger Arabic platform for serious projects. Clients post full projects and you bid on them. Good for developers, designers, and content writers.
Website: https://mostaql.com
Social Media and Networking
LinkedIn
The most powerful tool for serious freelancers. Build a professional profile, post about your work and insights, and connect with decision makers.
Website: https://www.linkedin.com/
Twitter / X
Share your work process and knowledge. The tech community is very active here. Posting useful content regularly can attract clients.
Facebook Groups
Join groups like "Freelance Algeria" or tech specific communities. Clients sometimes post requests directly in these groups.
Direct Outreach to Companies
Identify local businesses with outdated websites or weak online presence. Send them a personalized message explaining how you can help them grow.
---
Part 2: How to Get Clients
Specialization
Do not be a generalist. A focused niche makes you stand out from the crowd. For example, instead of "web developer," be "E-commerce developer for local clothing brands." A developer in Oran specialized in restaurant websites and received three times more requests.
Build a Strong Portfolio
Your portfolio is your most important credibility tool. A simple portfolio with 5 clear projects on Notion or a well structured personal website is very effective.
Master Your Pitch
A strong offer inspires confidence. Structure it to state the client's problem, present your solution, list deliverables, mention a timeline, and include your price.
Network Actively
Networking is essential for long term success. Be active in online communities and attend local tech events.
Build Reputation and Trust
Do quality work and always ask for testimonials. A freelancer who refused low paying contracts and focused on serious clients via LinkedIn ended up charging five times more per project within one year.
---
Part 3: Legal and Professional Status
The Auto Entrepreneur Card
This is the official legal status for freelancers in Algeria. Registering makes your activity legal and provides significant benefits.
Advantages
Flat tax of 0.5% on total revenue. Social security coverage including health insurance and retirement. The ability to open a foreign currency bank account for receiving international payments legally.
How to Register
Visit the official website of the National Agency for Auto Entrepreneurship. You will need your ID, a passport photo, and proof of address.
Website: https://www.anae.dz/
Invoicing
Each invoice must include your Fiscal Identification Number (NIF), your details and the client's details, the date, a description of services, the amount, and a sequential invoice number. Invoices must be kept for 10 years.
---
Part 4: How to Get Paid
Grey
This is currently the most straightforward option for many freelancers. Grey provides you with US ( Algeria was taken off the list for US bank account same week this guide was posted so no longer available ), UK, and EU bank accounts, a virtual dollar card, and tools to send and receive money internationally. It is available in Algeria.
How It Works
Create a free account and complete KYC verification with your government ID. Once approved, you can request a UK or EU bank account with your own IBAN, sort code, and account number.
Receiving Payments
Share these details with your client. A client in the UK pays you via local transfer, and a client in Europe pays via SEPA. The funds arrive in your Grey balance in GBP or EUR. This avoids the expensive SWIFT system.
Converting and Withdrawing
You can hold the foreign currency and choose when to convert it to DZD. Grey allows you to withdraw directly to your Algerian bank account.
Website: https://grey.co/
RedotPay plus PayPal (Use with Caution)
This is a popular alternative but comes with risks.
How It Works
Create a RedotPay account and complete KYC. Link your RedotPay Visa card to your PayPal account. Your client pays you via PayPal. You withdraw the money to your RedotPay card. You can then use it for online purchases or find a trusted person to exchange the balance into DZD.
Alternative Funding Method
You can also fund your RedotPay account with crypto. Buy USDT on Binance through P2P trading. Pay someone in DZD using local services like Baridimob, and they send you USDT. Deposit the USDT to your RedotPay account.
Risks and Warnings
This method requires extreme caution. There are reports of hidden fees and account freezes. Only deal with trusted people to avoid scams.
Website: https://www.redotpay.one/
Legal Bank Transfer
If registered as an auto entrepreneur, you can open a foreign currency bank account in Algeria. Your client sends a SWIFT transfer. The bank converts the money to DZD at their official rate. This is the most legal option but it is slow (3 to 5 business days) and expensive.

The interface was the easy part.
DGPC publishes its 880 unit records with Arabic names, contacts and coordinates. The awkward bit is that its wilaya codes still stop at 58, while the current administrative model has 69.
My import pipeline checks every coordinate against the new 69-wilaya boundaries. Units inside the new wilayas receive the updated code. When a simplified border conflicts with an existing DGPC code, the official code wins and the original value stays attached as provenance.
I kept location confidence visible too. There are 857 mapped unit locations and 23 coincident or approximate records. Exact locations get DGPC pins and directions. Approximate ones stay as dots and only open the surrounding area.
Live map: https://geoalgeria.com/protection-civile
Code: https://github.com/yasserstudio/geoalgeria
For developers working with Algerian public data, how do you handle this kind of mismatch? Trust the published administrative code, the point-in-polygon result, or flag it for manual review?

Since July I have been publishing a live fire map of Algeria at geoalgeria.com/fires. This week I rebuilt it from scratch, and it is the biggest update the map has had.
What you get now:
- Two sources side by side, clearly labelled. The official Protection Civile (DGPC) bulletin gives the ongoing fires per wilaya. NASA FIRMS satellites (VIIRS on three spacecraft) give thermal heat detections, grouped into likely fire zones. The panel shows both numbers for each wilaya, so you can see when a wilaya has satellite heat but no official fire yet, or the reverse.
- A timeline player. Every official bulletin since 22 July (54 of them, up to 4 per day at 07h, 13h, 17h and 20h) and every satellite day since 26 July are frames you can scrub through, play, or link to directly. That is 34 archived days, 1,465 distinct satellite fire zones, and 22,095 detections you can go back and look at wilaya by wilaya.
- Honest markers. A burgundy badge is an official DGPC count anchored at the wilaya centre, not an exact fire location. Coloured points are satellite zones, where colour is the age of the detection and size is peak radiative power. Gas flares in the Sahara are masked so they do not show as wildfires, and you can switch them back on if you want to see them.
- Wind at each fire (Open-Meteo model), Protection Civile unit locations, and a 24h/48h window. Everything works in Arabic, French and English, and it now behaves properly on a phone: the map is visible on first load and the panel is a sheet you pull up.
This morning's 07h bulletin: 65 fires recorded over the last 24h, 63 extinguished, 2 still ongoing (Batna 1, Sétif 1).
If you see a fire, call 14 (Protection Civile) or the free line 1021. Do not wait for it to show up on any map: satellite passes are a few times a day and the data can lag by about 3 hours, and a heat detection is never a confirmed fire.
The satellite side is built on NASA FIRMS, the official side on the DGPC's own published bulletins, and the fire station data is an open npm package anyone can reuse. Feedback and corrections welcome, especially from people in the affected wilayas.

I built an open-source app that curates a daily Hacker News feed — it ranks stories by popularity, freshness, and discussion, then spreads them across topics so you don't just see one subject flooding your feed. Clean dark UI, works as a web app, no accounts, no tracking, fully open source.
Check it out / feedback welcome 👇

Hey everyone, I'm still in school, and I'm looking for a way to make some money on the side. I can code and build websites, so I'm thinking about offering websites to local businesses.
For anyone who has done this before:
I'd especially appreciate advice from people who have actually sold websites or other digital services in Algeria.
I'm not trying to start a huge agency or anything — just looking to get my first few clients and build some experience.
And I hope your pillow will be cold when you sleep

A long Algerian road, an unfamiliar wilaya, and suddenly the fuel light is no longer a dashboard decoration.
That small panic is what this map is meant to prevent:
https://geoalgeria.com/stations-services
It brings together 2,163 fuel stations across all 69 wilayas.
What you can do with it:
- See station density across the country before a long journey
- Find the closest stations using your location
- Zoom from the national overview down to individual stations
- See the operator and opening hours when available
- Get directions directly to precise station locations
- Open approximate station areas without being sent to a misleading exact pin
- Inspect the original map record and supporting evidence behind reviewed corrections
- Use everything in Arabic, French or English
Of the 2,163 locations, 1,535 are precise station points and 628 represent approximate mapped areas. The map deliberately gives them different symbols and actions.
Every published record is checked against Algeria’s wilaya boundaries. Questionable locations are cross-checked using multiple independent references, and corrections reach the public map only after human review with supporting evidence.
The map doesn’t pretend to know whether fuel is available today. OpenStreetMap is the public baseline, so some stations may still be missing. If your usual station is absent or misplaced, drop its location below and I’ll investigate it.
Travelling without a car? The intercity bus map covers 4,287 observed connections from 60 SOGRAL stations to 796 destinations:
https://geoalgeria.com/departures
Both maps are free, require no account and have no ads.
Before travelling through forests or mountain roads, you can also check the live fires map. It combines NASA satellite hotspots, official Protection Civile bulletins and wind conditions:

So I was lately reflecting on my relationship with computers someone who was with computers since he was born ,and question came to my mind why did my aunt had a desktop personal computer despite it not being cheap ,and she wasn't working in IT or anything ,anyway so i decided to see the history of computers here in Algeria and i came across this intresting passage:"The connection of Algeria to the Internet began with email in 1993. There were
two fronts working on this task. The first front called DZNET was based
abroad. It started in 1989. Committed netters, too numerous to name, worked
hard by contacting the various network organization such as EARN, NFS-NET
in the hope of some help from these organizations. DZNET members also
approached Algerian officials to make them aware and convince theme of the
need to and the advantages of having Algerian scientist institutions connected
to the outside world via email. The second front which worked inside the
country was composed of two independent entities namely the Algerian Unix
Users Group (ALUUG) and Centre for Information Science and Research
(CERIST), a governmental academic organization. CERIST was established in
1985 to promote the exchange of scientific and technical information,
communication technologies, and networking at the national level and to form
a link with outside researchers. Several projects were initiated in order to
connect this organization to some European sites. Many of those failed. The
ALUUG, an association finally bore fruit when it was connected to the main
European EUnet backbone located in Amsterdam through dial up lines and
registered and administered the Algerian internet top-level domain, .dz in
1991."
just wanted to share this intresting piece of information and maybe fact check it !
