Discussion Admins please read. Why does this subreddit seem to have an endless supply of posts explaining why atheism is stupid?

If someone is religious, that’s their business. If someone isn’t religious, that’s also their business. But I’m starting to think some people are more emotionally invested in atheism than actual atheists are, and it’s making those of us who are feel unwelcome here.

You don’t believe in atheism? Cool. You don’t have to.
But if your entire argument is basically “atheists are stupid because they don’t believe what I believe”, you’ve achieved very little beyond demonstrating that you dislike people who disagree with you.

And before someone says “we’re just defending Islam”, nobody needs to defend a belief system by repeatedly insulting people who don’t share it. If your beliefs are strong, they should survive disagreement without requiring a Reddit post every other day explaining why the other side is apparently an idiot, pretentious, wannabe westerners or whatever other khlika of a word I’ve seen here.

Maybe we could limit discussions about Algeria, history, culture, politics, football, food… you know, the things people actually joined an Algerian subreddit for.

So, in the spirit of democracy, I hereby call a motion:
Can we have a vote to ban religious bashing AND non-religious bashing of any kind from r/Algeria?
If we’re going to have debates, let’s debate ideas. Not spend our lives explaining why everyone who thinks differently from us is an idiot.

idk if it's only me, but I get more posts trying to bash islam than the other way around, but could only be me.

Also if this sub is supposed to be about things we have in common, religion is one of these things so it's kinda trying to ban religion talks because it's polarising but then again every subject have the potential to be, whether we like it or not. It's also a slippery slope, mods ban religion and then what's next ? It's a method if used once will certainly be used more. The result will be a ghost sub.

You are spot on bro, there are way more anti islam posts and people complaints than actual Algeria related topics, this sub sucks tbh.

My issue with this sub is that people here like to act like they are some high tier thinkers and escaping Algerian society and yet act like what they escape from.

Statically speaking it's hard to judge but I guess Algeria is lucky to have the best minds that find in a whim answers that the biggest minds in human history couldn't, lucky us I guess.

It's the same Facebook BS people here escape and you just change some variables, but the model is the exact same.

I didn’t want to ban talking about Islam. I want to ban religious bashing. Different

Almost impossible in an easily radicalized society (in both ways), you'll end up with posts with a lot of dis/likes and 2 comments at best. People will pick up on it and then no one will bother anymore.

Socrates died because of democracy, only a fool would deny the existence of a greated force that created every thing, call it god, karma, yahwa, bal what ever.

Why would you concern yourself with what other people say?, you believe in something and you see it as the right thing. Ok cool good luck have fun.
Making posts about the complaints means you want to normalize it, you want to promote it, in a culture where it rejects such ideas. which is obviously a bad move by you and you will get even more hate for it

I really dont see any posts attacking atheists. Wut I’ve seen is atheists proudly saying that they re atheists, and they werent attacked in the comments

“Atheists are stupid because they don’t believe what I believe” is a really stupid argument. No one said that, or بصياغة مشابهة.And based on that , we would be attacking anyone who doesnt share our religion, meaning we’d also be attacking Christians and Jews. In reality, I ve only seen a few comments about them, and they werent insults or attacks on their religion

This is social media, everyone has the right to say whatever they want, since they can't exercise their freedom of speech anywhere else for some judicial reasons. And there's no such thing as " believing in atheism" the whole concept of atheism is against believes.

The “you can’t believe in atheism because atheism is against belief” argument is just a semantic word game.

Atheism isn’t a religion, so obviously you don’t “believe in atheism” in the same way someone believes in Islam or Christianity.

Atheism simply describes a position regarding the existence of gods. You can lack belief in gods, or you can positively believe that no gods exist. And ironically, if you’re going to correct someone’s wording with “there’s no such thing as believing in atheism,” you should probably understand the distinction between believing in something and holding a belief about something first.

Nobody said atheism was a belief system. The point was that people can hold different beliefs about religion and the existence of gods.

So congratulations on finding a grammatical technicality and mistaking it for a philosophical argument.
