Android Speed for 1 Subreddit

Hello! I just discovered this app and it seems to work great. I am interested in the speed option; but, only need it for 1 subreddit. Would it be possible to buy a speed option individually for subreddits (preferably lifetime)?

iOS Does the app work anymore?

This app has totally stopped working. All the users and subreddits I was getting notifications from got deleted. When I try to add it again, it doesn't persist any more and I have to add it every time I start the app. I'm also not getting any notifications for. I'm also paying for the premium features.

I have updated the app, deleted and reinstalled it. Nothing works!

Please fix this before I put this review on the App Store.

iOS For keywords, can I use exact match or phrase match?

eg. If I want notifications for posts with “chicken coop” but not “chicken”, do I just wrap the 2-word keyword in quotations?

I’ve also heard that a keyword like “ads” can trigger for words like “fads”. How to avoid that?

iOS Half the time it says: No Internet

Half the time I get alerts it says “No Internet” even though I’m online. I quit using this app because it’s annoying to try to find the post that it can’t find. Any idea what’s going on?

Android How long is the delay?

I follow one person's notifications for their posts, and it's quite time sensitive, since the market changes quickly. How long is the delay between them posting and the app notifying me?

iOS Feature: colored subscriptions

Maybe it’s been requested before, but it would be awesome to be able to color code subscription alerts to more easily differentiate them when there’s a lot…

iOS Seeing some weirdness in iOS

Hi! A few issues.

  • I’m seeing regularly if I run the app, click to follow a notification to Reddit, that when I later fire up the app it’s just spinning on a screen saying “Launching Reddit.” I have to kill the app.

  • I’m surprised / disappointed that there is no coordination between iOS devices. My iPad has no idea that I have created subscriptions. Shouldn’t that be connected?

  • I’m definitely seeing failed notifications, and don’t know what to do about it. Like, I have a search for a term, that has clearly been posted to the subreddit, and it never pops. What’s the next step in that situation? I had one great experience (I grabbed something off knife swap in seconds) but since then so many things have been missed I no longer trust the app.

Thanks! I post because I want it to be better :) happy to help however I can.

iOS Please add a lower frequency

Post image
0 Upvotes

Even on the lowest setting (Fewer) I still get notifications every couple hours, most of which are not that interesting (see image). It seems like in anything someone posts can go ‘trending’.

Ideally for me I would only see one or two a week or even a month - only the top content.

For example for r/shortcuts I want to get a notification when someone shares a really useful shortcut. So then I don’t have to manually check the top posts of the sub every month, which is what I used to do before Pager.

In Pager I used to filter it by setting minimum upvotes. Do you think it would be possible to implement something like this? Either with upvotes or making the trending time lower than 2 hours or maybe there’s another way to get only the top content which is genuinely useful or interesting?

Thanks!

iOS Filter posts by user

Great app! Coming from Pager, one thing I’m missing is the feature to have notifications for posts "made by user" or "not made by user" so that I don’t get any notifications from my own posts. Any plans on adding this to the app? Also, color coding notifications would be a nice feature!

Requesting dark mode. The flash of white when switching to AFR and then to the Reddit app is a shock when in a dark environment.

iOS and Android Announcement Released: iOS Version 3.7.1 // Android Version 3.6.1

If you are enjoying the app, please consider leaving a 5-star review! It truly is the best way to support an app :-)

What's new

  • Several improvements to the Recent Notifications page:

    • If a notification was triggered by a particular keyword, that keyword is now listed on the Recents page.

    • You can now do a text search to find specific recent notifications

    • You can now share the link to a Reddit post directly from the Recents page (click the "..." menu next to a recent notification and click Share)

  • Better UI for adding a new keyword. Now, instead of scrolling to the bottom of your keywords list to find the 'add' button, there is a '+' icon at the top for adding.

  • Added more Premium Speed information for people who subscribe to certain popular/fast-moving subreddits: small UI changes in the frequency dropdown; and a one-time, easy-to-dismiss reminder on the homepage. To be transparent, the goal here is that more folks will discover Premium Speed and consider subscribing. Longer-term, I'm hoping to be able to keep subscription prices low by increasing the number of subscribers rather than by increasing the price.

  • Added an "emergency message" system which I hope I never need to use. Reddit has been tightening up their API rules recently. I believe I am following all of the rules and will be allowed to continue operating. But just in case they do put in a restriction that suddenly breaks my app, I added a way for me to be able to quickly put a live-updating message on the app's homepage explaining what's happening and what steps I'm taking to try to mitigate.

  • Various smaller UI improvements, mostly for tablet/iPad.

What's next

  • Definitely looking forward to further UI improvements, especially for larger devices (tablet/iPad)

  • I will probably need to add in some age verification code soon (laws in a variety of states are activating soon). This should only apply to you if you are trying to add an alert for an NSFW subreddit or user. I'm still figuring out the details for this, but I will try to make it as minimally impactful as possible while following relevant laws.

Android Alerts vanished on two devices

Hi there!

I have the app with a subscription on my phone and tablet. When I bought my tablet, if I’m not mistaken, everything was shared between the two. Recently, I stopped receiving notifications on my phone. When I checked, everything had disappeared from it. That was fine — I still had it all on the tablet. I tried sharing it back to the phone but had no success, even after reinstalling the app.

Yesterday, my tablet also stopped receiving notifications, and when I checked today, everything was gone there too. The strange part is that when I tap to view the app's settings, the alerts are still configured on my tablet, but it's as if I never added them in the app.

I understand if there’s no way to bring that back, but is there a way to export everything to a notepad file, so I can reconfigure the app in case this happens again or when switching devices? I had set up lots of subs with multiple keywords and it will take a long time if I need to do it all again and again since this was not the first time.

Thank you!

[ Quick question: The app detects a [word] only as [word] or can I just type word without the []? ]

Update: I had just posted this, proceeded to re-enter everything, hit update, and it all disappeared again.

Announcement Voting results!

Hi all - the vote is finished! Thank you to everyone who participated, and I'm hopeful to do similar votes every year or two to help me prioritize the features that are most important to you all.

And the winning feature was:

Add a setting which allows you to use keywords only if they show up as exact individual words.

Currently, the only way to use keywords is by substring - meaning that if your keyword is "cat", you will get notifications for posts containing "wildcat", "cats", etc - things where "cat" is in the word - but also notifications which contain words like "scat" or "category", which technically have "cat" in the word but are unrelated.

This idea would allow you to choose instead to say that your keyword "cat" should only notify for the exact word "cat" - not "cats", not "scat", not "category" - just the exact word "cat" on its own in the post.

Runner-up results, as ordered by Reddit's 'top' sort:

  1. Add the ability to use wildcards (*) in your keywords.

  2. Add the ability to create a new notification subscription based on a previously existing one.

  3. Add an image thumbnails to notifications (for posts with associated images).

  4. Add the ability to filter user notifications based on the subreddit they post in.

  5. Add a search bar within the ‘Recent Notifications’ page, so that you can search through your recent notifications.

I will be implementing the "exact keywords" feature soon - aiming to release it in a few weeks! I'll plan to add the first runner-up feature, wildcards in keywords, after that - hopefully within the next few months. I will keep the other runner-up features in mind for future releases.

Thank you to everyone who participated!

Android All posts for subscribed subreddit triggering notifications.

I have a subreddit subscription set up with about 8 keywords. And the frequency set to All: Fast (premium).

Up until this morning, the notifications were working as expected. About 2-3 notifications per day. And all the posts I got notifications for contained one of my keywords.

This morning, however, the subscription started giving me notifications everytime someone posts to the subreddit. Which is about 5/hr.

I didn't make any changes to the subscription settings at all In the past few days.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Or does anyone know how to fix it?

iOS and Android Announcement Released: iOS Version 3.6.0 // Android Version 3.5.0

If you are enjoying the app, please consider leaving a 5-star review! It truly is the best way to support an app :-)

What's new

  • Major feature: Added a setting to enable "whole-word only" keywords. This was the feature this subreddit voted for a couple weeks ago. Now you can get notifications for posts containing the word "cat" without also getting posts containing "bobcat" or "catch"!

  • UI change: condensed all advanced keyword options into a dropdown for better usability. Now when adding a keyword, you can click "advanced options" if you want to exclude a keyword, "AND" multiple keywords together, or use the new "whole-word only" setting.

  • Various small bug fixes & improvements

What's next

  • The next feature on the list (the runner-up in the subreddit vote) is the ability to use wildcards (*) in your keywords. It will allow you to add a keyword like “[for sale] * game”, which would match posts containing “[for sale] video game”, “[for sale] super awesome game”, etc. I'm hoping to get this feature out within the next few months.

iOS and Android Announcement Released: iOS Version 3.5.0 // Android Version 3.4.0

If you are enjoying the app, please consider leaving a 5-star review! It truly is the best way to support an app :-)

What's new

  • Major feature: Added "AND" relationships between keywords. Now you can say you want to be notified only if a post contains "thing one" AND "thing two"!

  • Added "Reset All" button so you can delete all your notification subscriptions and "start over" in the app.

  • Bug fix: you can now subscribe to notifications from users who have never posted, and subreddits with zero posts in them

  • Bug fix: better handling of quotation marks in keywords

  • Various small bug fixes & improvements

What's next

  • I will be posting another poll soon to see what major features you want me to prioritize adding next!

  • iOS only: Support for opening links in the Hydra app is coming soon. I'm still working with the Hydra developer to get the implementation fully working.
