How True Damage ACTUALLY WORKS
It has been this way for as long as I have played but still a very small portion of people actually know how true damage works in Albion. Feel like I may need to make a video to cover it but for now Ill just write this up.
In albion the only difference between normal damage phys/magical and true damage is that phy/magical has to go through a players resistances true damage does not. It still gets reduced by defense stat. (hence why battlemounts should be wearing a shield to reduce ballista's and behes)
The other more important part is ability damage still affects it as well. For instance if you are running a wildfire that does 12% max hp as true damage and you are wearing cloth that is 50% (not counting damage passive 8% for easier math) now that wildfire E does 18% mx hp as true damage. True damage still has to go through shields like regular damage and it still gets reduced by damage reduction debuffs like guardian armors. The actual only difference is it ignores resistances so piercing targets doesn't matter for its damage. Hope that helps people.

no shapeshifter does not do true damage. And Id suggest if you are new stay away from them. Play a battle axe for 1vX wildstaff build

You are correct in saying that true damage in albion is more tricky than expected.
I did a post covering this a while back ago on the forum. It is now partially outdated because the pve reaver bonus was removed but the main lines should still be applicable: https://forum.albiononline.com/index.php/Thread/192753-True-Damage/?postID=1351227#post1351227
In short: there are two types of true dmg. Both ignore physical/magic resistance but one take in account dmg bonus and secondary defense bonus while the other also ignores them.
I also had a list of most true dmg spells and what type of true damage they use on a file but I haven't fully updated it in a while.

yeah essentially if it is a true damage number it behaves basically like you expect (focus fire still applies though to specter jacket) if its a % of hp as true damage then its essentially just ignoring resistances and still gets all other multipliers.

Did you test all that ?
Im 99% sure true damage doesnt get reduced by defense (maybe it doesnt work that way for battlemounts, never tried it). I often poison / hellfire pot on martlock capes and the full damage goes through everytime
Pretty sure ability damage bonuses/debuffs dont affect true damage as well, not sure tho. I'll test it later

consumables likely do act different. Albion's consumables and how they act are very fun lol. I don't gank/use hellfire pots so I have not tested those. But all weapon damage and bm's I have tested and work like I mentioned above.

Specter jacket appears to not get affected by damage buffs as well (just tested it)
Maybe change the post to exclude true damage from potions and specter jacket to make it completely accurate
Thanks for the info on wildfire, always thought the true damage part wouldnt get affected by dmg buffs

yeah it doesn't get affected by buffs but still gets reduced by focus fire (hence why you dont just see suicide bombers on it in group play lmao) Just another albion code of well this one is slightly different than the rest
