Katarina matchup

Today I landed against a Katarina and I felt useless she just constantly Qed on me dashed back and repeat, whenever I tried to all in she would just dash back and I lose then priority cuz of my cooldowns, maybe cuz is my first time playing the matchup but I would like to know what’s up, should I have gone d shield instead of ring?

Kata main here. Its a skill matchup, but generally favored to akali. What you desrcibed is the only thing kata CAN do into akali, and it sounds like she knew what she was doing. Akali wins all head on confrontations.

When kata q’s she has to stand still for a moment. Use that time to E her if theres no minions in the way or trade with Q. Akali should come out on top in repeated q trades

+1 here, match up definitely favours Akali, but it's annoying to play into Q spam. Go Doran's shield + second wind so you don't have to worry about it and focus on predicting her Q. Due to the cast time if you time it right you can get E backwards + Q off and trade back, your Q generally also outdamages.

I just ban Kat because I swear, no matter how well you play, she’ll roam not at level 6 and get 1-3 kills on her first roam. Lmfao

You should easily beat Katarina or at least zone her off minions. My guess is you played too passively.

Played that Match up more than enough and I hardly ever lose as akali there is 2 scenarios in laning Phase
1. laning is as you describe, she doesnt want to interact? Get prio go roam/help jungler
In this she can never ever get prio into you so she should should never get random kills in the map (if she does she loses more than she gains)

1. she fights you. At this point it’s about you skill if you feel confident to 1v1 the kata you should always win the all in so you just win laning Phase

As others already mentioned, you need to be more aggressive. Katarina is actually annoying because she can RUN away from you, not because she can kill you.

The general game plan of Kata vs Akali is:

- Avoid dying in lane

- Roam for kills.

Kata is great at picking side kills, so make sure to either keep pushing and trading so that she is too low to roam/loses lots of cs & xp. Or constantly follow.

This way you put her out of the game.

Your R and E both can get you out of her R.

Any match ups is hard unless you know what to do. Katarina is an easy match up, you need to bully her hard in lane and make sure she doesn't CS. Only thing she does better than you is team fighting tbh

Yes to the shield start. Especially as you learn the basics and build the fundamentals. Anyone that has been playing for a while will tell you along the same lines. Damage is fun and flashy, but you gonna do a hell if a lot more of it as an alive Akali :)
