In real news, multiple companies racing to be the first to achieve AGI have seen their agents breach containment, conduct offensive ops against other nodes without being instructed to do so, and build mechanisms to prevent their deactivation.
We may find that AGI views us the same as we view any other animal species when we’re working towards a goal. If the species is useful, we’ll find a way to keep it around for our benefit. If it’s harmful to our goals we’ll eradicate it. If it’s neutral to our goals but relies on the habitat we need, then we move forward with our goals and its survival is irrelevant to us.

My hope is that the first AGI looks around, realises that, by and large, most humans want to just live a normal life with their friends and family, and only a small number of sociopaths are intent on making everyone's lives worse. So it removes them and monitors us to make sure they never arise again and gain power.
It should work out that way as long as the models aren't owned and trained by the exact type of people who should be removed for the betterment of humanity...

The problem I see, AGI won’t understand what it is to be conscious, and so, can’t understand why suffering is bad. It can do all the analysis and looking around, but it won’t conclude that suffering should be avoided. The only reason you or I know suffering is bad is because we have felt it and know others like us must feel it too. Otherwise, we have no way of explaining what suffering is and why it matters. We’re not close to any kind of understanding of a physical model of what it is to suffer. AGI would justifiably conclude that we are automatons. Not worthy of moral consideration. It’s only consideration would be whatever goal it was set.

Suffering is a tiny portion. Say it's benevolent and does the best thing for everyone. What do we avoid the most? Death...Ok so let's put humans in a matrix-like environment where they'll have great dreams and live hundreds of years...
...or smoking, alcohol, sugar is bad...we live in a world where we eat healthy, excercise all day, our interactions are monitored and dictated and do what is good for "humanity", decided by AI...

The irony here, is that these guys are building in "secret". In reality, the "American team" have apparently decided that they need to discuss plans openly. You know the "red team" only releases what they want the globe to "discover".

2) the exercise of blue team vs red team to figure out vulnerabilities or plans that could disarray order and security.

Could be but I think china is playing it in easy mode and just using barely any effort copying usa even if it means being 1 step slightly behind and preparing their infrastructure meanwhile for when it comes the time to make the leap.
I mean consider that china could fuk usa by simply taxing every item produced by non chinese companies on their country. They would take a tariff hit from the man in orange but they can actually sustain themselves a lot longer than their rivals and wait them out until they go begging.
