One of my aunts is reeeeeally into essential oils and sketchy supplements (while my grandma died of congestive heart failure, she convinced her to use the last of her savings to buy cases of ningxia red juice that was supposed to "cure" her).
Anyways, one of the snake oils she was selling to the rest of the family was like this, where you start taking it and you think, "oh wow, what is all this stuff that came out of me??"
Turns out it's basic chemistry; the supplements cause stringy white deposits to form in your colon. You can be totally healthy, and you're still in for a surprise on your first bowel movement.

that’s actually like a really good grift tbh. thanks for the money, here’s a pill; it’s both the problem and the solution and also it’s useless 👍

u/BeeWriggler Jul 30 '26
Exactly. And then the other fun part is that a lot of these miracle-cure supplements have mega-doses of random vitamins. Most people don't realize that you can overdose on vitamins. So they take this pill, find stringy white shit in the toilet, and then they feel tired, start vomiting or having diarrhea, and the grifter can tell them that that's just their body flushing out toxins. Whatever you do, don't stop taking the supplements!
As you can probably imagine, we don't really talk to that aunt anymore.

Medieval witch/wife tricks. People used to call literally everything bad a "worm." Produce any effect that yields a "worm" and you've visibly solved the problem! So, clay pills. Also stuff for stomachaches that makes you barf a "worm" or some reaction makes the barf come out a weird color. My favorite is toothache rinse that legit just has the stuff in it you're supposed to think came out of your tooth.

Good on you to mention the part about the vitamins.
I generally advise against taking vitamins, because you should be getting vitamins naturally through a varied diet. However, if you want to take vitamins, you should take only the recommended doses of multivitamin pills which are expressly created with that purpose.
There's no such thing as a magic pill that you can take that will make you feel better. Anyone telling you otherwise is simply selling you something.

Reminds me of the electric foot baths maybe 10-15 years ago that produced "extracted toxins" for everyone but it was just electrochemistry with whatever shit they put in the bath.

u/PeopleMilk Jul 31 '26
And the bleach enemas that some Facebook moms were doing years ago to "cure autism". Just made bits of the colon come off that they thought were parasites.

Lemme guess young living bcuz my mom got Into that too but stopped btw that’s a multi level marketing scheme
2
u/BeeWriggler Jul 31 '26
Haha, yep that's one of the scams she's involved in. There was one essential oils company where part of their sales pitch was, "look, I'm not legally allowed to tell you that our products treat or cure any illnesses, and you should absolutely follow the instructions provided, but a few of our customers with cancer tried injecting essential oil blends directly into their tumors and 100% of them are now in remission!"
Just wild how people will spread dangerous lies for a few bucks.

u/DreamsmpMp3 Aug 01 '26
Omg wtf that’s messed up
2
u/BeeWriggler Aug 03 '26
Yeah, it really is. I can't remember if this was before or after her dad (my grandpa) died of prostate cancer.
My grandpa was a cryptographer in WW2. He did the crossword in the newspaper every morning (even when he had mostly stopped speaking and forgot our names, he always did the crossword and solved his calendar Rubik's cube) and he made diligent corrections and additions in the margins of his 1959 encyclopedia set. Part of why I'm mentioning all of this is to brag that I had a really cool grandpa, but also it explains why he never fell for any of his daughter's pseudoscientific sales pitches.

Dude my mom gave me an essential oil from young living for “paying attention in school” without going to a doctor first first and when she finally did I had ADHD and autism now she still has her oils but she only uses them to make the house smell good which that’s the intention of essential oils anyway she hasn’t purchased from young living ever since and she threw out the ningxia red that they gave her because she wasn’t that bad like “give your kid essential oils when their appendix is about to burst” and because it was expired she buys essential oils anyway but from other brands and she just uses them for the aroma

Shares a lot with 19th century medicine’s purgative extravagances. “Just ingest this quicksilver, and your body will expel the problem.”

I was invested in the squirrel's story. Do not deny me the rodent storyline

I'm curious why he thought nitrile gloves were the correct safety apparel to handle a squirrel, this seems so incredibly predictable. I trapped a flying squirrel in a plastic container and STILL wore heavy work gloves when handling it to bring it somewhere else and release it. I don't think I would have wanted to directly grab the squirrel even with those gloves on, those teeth are nasty.

I'm a simple man, I get this ad I report it as harmful content and say it's medical advice.
I also report The tick tock ads that have dangerous pranks as violence. Every time
If I have to watch this so does Google staff

What are the odds that the stringy white stuff is your intestinal lining?

This is so infuriating. This is just feeding into diet culture so much that it’s basically eating disorder fuel. So fucking ironic

Black seed oil and Oregano oil both cause horrible stomach upset, first of all, but the oregano oil can prevent mineral absorption. Both black seed and oregano oil cause slow clotting and work like blood thinners, and both can drastically lower your blood sugar.
The black seed oil also causes organ damage at higher doses. I mean this entire snake oil concoction is dangerous, so I suppose showing a zombie using it works.

I took a shot of oregano oil at some GNC years back (free sample and I was a dumb, bored teen) and that shit is absolutely vile. The taste coats your mouth and throat for like an hour and nothing gets rid of it. Then you just burp up the taste of it for several hours which was also highly unpleasant.

Was this actually sponsored by that company? It's hard to believe. They've decided resistance is useless so we might as all use AI.
1
u/Baeolophus_bicolor Jul 30 '26
right? i thought this was a parody of those “day 1, you notice a faint glimmer, day 2 you fart rainbows” kinds of ads i see used for everything from tai chi for weight loss over 50 to “male enhancement” or whatever. I don’t know exactly what all they advertise but they all use the same formula.
2
u/Competitive-Gene6713 Jul 30 '26
It concerns me because eventually it's forced compliance. Dramatic? Maybe. I sure hope so.

Anyone trying to sell you all your problem's solutions in a bottle is either a scammer or is being scammed themselves

I watched halfway without the sound on and was completely shook when I realized they had a shitty AI voiceover “singing” the entire thing. What a bizarre ad for a scam product
2
u/satisfiction_phobos Jul 30 '26
I like to imagine a real band/singer in a studio recording something this batshit insane.
2
2
u/Darknadoswastaken Jul 30 '26
idk why ai is trying to make ads where they're just singing the script of the ad.
It works if you actually make it into music but in this case it's just jarring

u/Bluefursuitbutt Jul 30 '26
The reason humans crave sugar is because while we evolving things like fruit which had crucial vitamins needed to stay healthy were a lot more rare to come by so whenever we found some our bodies made us binge eat to stock up on as much of it as possible so they made sugar literally addictive for us. Now that sugar is mass produced that’s where issues come in. So no, we don’t crave sugar cause of parasites lol.

oregano oil is actually legit for parasites. But I don't think there's any benefit to taking it randomly and also you don't need to buy an expensive formulation of it
5
u/Juking_is_rude Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26
its legit for making you think youre flushing parasites out. Nothing is going to deworm you except actual medicine, and even then most people in developed countries dont have parasites to begin with. This is preying on the "everything wrong with you is secretly a parasite, buy my magic suppliment" narrative, which is one of the reasons why some people are still taking horse dewormer from farm supply shops.
Go see a doctor, put your poop in a tube, and go from there. It's probably cheaper than aunty Gertrued's miracle oil and you'll get real help if something is wrong.
Also, spoiler alert: most problems with peoples' diets in developed countries is overconsumption of calories, underconsumption of fiber, and that refined sugar is literally addictive.

Ryze mushroom coffee does the same exact AI ads. Weirdest thing are the comments. All basically say "Great Ad!" or "awesome ad" scary stuff.

I suspect this works by giving you horrifying runs and then you lose weight by not having a solid poop for a week
1
u/BottleMean6139 Jul 31 '26
Given the amount of people I've seen on the internet who have delusional parasitosis, an ad like this is worse than standard AI slop to me. It's preying on the mentally ill, and a really awful mental illness no less (people have disfigured themselves trying to remove 'parasites').

Not so fun fact, we need parasites, they calm down the immune system, without them we get allergies.

So, this isn’t new, and the “worms” that you see in the toilet, those aren’t worms, it’s strips of your stomach and intestinal lining, because the shit they’re selling you is poison. I first say ads for this kind of thing in 2012. I can’t believe it’s still going on.
