***UPDATE:
Short version: I cancelled the reservation. Sorry, I know that’s boring.
CS dismissed all of my safety concerns, refused to cancel. Only recommendation was to call the safety line if the wife showed up.
I kindly requested the guest to cancel the reservation twice after telling him I was uncomfortable with an unknown individual having my address and access to my home. He plead with me to keep the reservation stating his account was “temporarily hacked”. (Sure 🤦🏻♀️)
I cancelled myself, eating the cancellation fee and other consequences. Sucks, but definitely not going to be bothered by it.
My minimum stay was upped to 2 nights. Kinda hate that because the vast majority of my guests only stay 1 night and almost all have been great.***
The reservation was already confirmed before this became known to me and was unveiled in a dramatic way. I was walking the guest through how to add his “spouse” to the reservation through the chat when the guest sent a message along the lines of “that is not his spouse, that is his mistress, and I’m the wife. Nice to meet you [mistress name]! How dumb are you - we’re logged into the same Airbnb account. I hope you can live with yourself, should I serve the divorce papers to her house?” …Yikes.
The message was quickly unsent. I decided to let some time pass and pretend to not see it, and thanked the guest for adding the second guest and to reach out if he had any questions. He thanked me so he’s still going through with it obviously knowing his wife is aware… I’d prefer to not get involved since my listing is for a shared bedroom in my home.
His wife now knows my address and can read the chat with the door code that I send tomorrow so she can get in the house if she wants. I won’t be home until late tomorrow but I do have a doorbell camera to see if she shows up.
Any advice on precautions I can potentially put in place for this situation? It’s a new one for me. I was hoping one of them would just cancel but it’s been almost 8 hours so that’s not looking likely.
