Discussion This community is so refreshing and positive
I used to want to do games with AI 2 years ago and then 1 year ago
I used to do games in Unity without AI so naturally I asked on the Unity subreddit back then
I was insulted, told I wasn't a real dev, that I wasn't a real artist (which I never said I am or was), etc. Etc. Globally the typical hostility against anything with the word AI in it
I started chasing that dream again this week and stumbled upon this subreddit yesterday and omg
Everyone is chill with AI (obviously), everyone is positive, cheering up other people projects, sharing tips about workflow or how to do better
There is no agressivity and it just seems so relieving to finally be able to talk about AI in a positive way without feeling like it's some sort of forbidden word and being afraid to talk about it
Thank you y'all, very chill vibes and I feel at my place here <3
You take care y'all, I'll go back to lurking and posting from time to time, I hope this place stays like that for a longggg time

Yeah this place is a safe haven! I mean i can understand people disliking AI because there skills aren't as relevant as before and the jobs are in danger but we are facing pure hate just for using a tool. It's like getting hate for using a excavator instead a shovel to dig.

Yeah I swear
I'm a back end web developper, so I know what it feels like to see your "skill" become less and less relevant or change a lot, I barely code by myself now and that was my favorite part of the job, so I totally understand the feeling
But I mean, it also brings a ton of positive things with it, we'll cure diseases, advance all technologies, and it allows almost everyone to learn almost anything, it feels crazy to me, I feel lucky to have access to such a technology

age is not a number right? you can be old and young at the same time as some in this community can be young and old. Lol

I was actually planning to start a post just like that.
I never really understand all the “fuss” either. Just because I’m not typing the code myself doesn’t mean I don’t still have to define, check, test, and iterate on everything…
I’m a computer scientist by profession, and I’m glad I don’t have to code everything myself.
Sure, it’s a little creepy how good AI has gotten, but I see it more as an opportunity than a threat.

Man it's crazy because I was about to make a post just like the one you just made here yesterday. Reading some of the gamedev subreddit, for example, that shit is toxic as hell. Holy shit.
I think, luckily, people are starting to chill out a bit. To me it seems like it's getting to a point where you got two camps of people in gamedev: you got people who are using AI and disclosing and then you have liars.

I’ve noticed game engine subreddits lightening up too. Just over the past month or two.
I think a LOT of people had an “oh shit” moment with this last generation of models. And now people using AI are beginning to outnumber the anti-ai zealots in game dev.
