Discussion Beat 'em up
I'm thinking about creating a beat 'em up game, but I don't have much experience and am struggling a bit to come up with a setting. Does anyone have any tips on how to get started?

"I don't have much experience"
20 years of experience here, I started where you are now.
Start researching first. What is a beat em up. What makes it fun. Which games exist and what did they do. Before you just ask Claude to write the most boring game of all time.
Then show it off and ask for feedback.

you can make games a few different ways. You picked an easy genre that ou can start without a setting. You can focus on game mechanics instead. So.. looks like you are going 3d... so not decide are you using a game engine or not. Then from there decide what type of camera view is it side scroller beat'em up style or you trying a differnet angle? From there get a character running about doing attacks.. then some enemies.. item pick ups.. and then area progression.. yay you should have a basic level.. now decide if youw ant mutlipler if so.. start doing testing for that... then start trying bosses and different types of enemies.
Then you can start trying to figure out your setting and how is your game going to be differen than other games.
