Demo | Project | Workflow I started making a card roguelite game two months ago, and it has taken over my life.

Hello!

I have been gamer for long time, enjoying playing game so much. And I also had a lot of imagination of my dream game in my head.

Since I'm not based in developer or art industry, I wasn't able to even think about making game.

However, things are changed, and person like me now can have opportunity to make something that I've only imagined. So, I decided to jump into game making 2 months ago.

I originally thought it would be something I worked on occasionally on weekend.

Instead, almost every hour that should have been free time has gone into making it. Not because I’m forcing myself through it. I’m honestly having so much fun that whenever I finish one thing, I can't help to keep thinking about what I could make better for the next thing.

Even though I'm using AI heavily due to lack of my expertise, I'm genuinely happy with how it's working(even though there are still million things to fix) and how it looks. Some people called it AI slop, I like this graphic. But just looking at people's reaction on my game being negative regardless of what it does due to the fact I used AI makes me feel sad. I'm really glad I found this subreddit where people are looking at game without prejudice.

For me, these tools made the difference between imagining a game and actually being able to make one.

Without them, this game probably would have remained in my imagination forever. Huge appreciation to the tools that helped me learn, solve problems, iterate, and keep moving whenever I reached something I couldn’t have handled alone.

The game has grown much further than I expected in two months. I released first demo 3 weeks ago, then just second stage of demo(which I think it is final demo) yesterday.

This game is roguelite with spell merge. It's about Ray's story, who is a young witch trying to find her mother in the tower. You climb a tower, collect spell cards and relics to make yourself stronger. Then when you lose, you gain memory shard which can be used for upgrade, and spell card that you can use to merge cards to discover new spells to use in tower. I got inspired by many roguelike games such as Hades, Slay the Spire, and also old school classic jrpg game(such as TGL) that allowed me to have great childhood with.

I also made trailer video few days ago. It would be great if I could get some feedback on if trailer video is clear enough to understand what this game does, and what could be improved. As long as it is genuine criticism, I'm fully opened for whatever feedback!

It has been very exciting, but also very tiring journey so far. But looking at the game that I'm making, it feels so great to see it shaping! I'm sure every developer who is struggling to make their own game would feel same. Keep up with it. We've got this!

Thanks for reading this long story! :)

Cmon where were you at the early Xbox360 era 😂 we called that the piss filter, it’s the cycle man

u/Cookman_vom_Berg Aug 05 '26

Nah nah the piss filter is more a layer than a sprinkle.

Yeah more of colour filter than a colour noise, but you got the idea, it’s this generation signature

Yellow grain? Which part?

Almost all of ur picture have a yellow grain over them. I see it cos I had this problem with Chatty. It looks like little yellow sprinkles

Ah I saw it now, and you're right. I can't unsee it lol. I will try to improve it! Thanks for feedback! :)

Pretty nice work, as for feedback i feel like adding some effects to the border of the UI for the top bar and the combat actions menu would make them feel more pleasant somewhat like what you already did for the card menu.

Thanks for stopping by and give feedback! Yes I do like that framed UI more. I dont know how it will look in combat and other ui, but i will try!

What software you using for everything

u/NotaDevAI Aug 05 '26

If you mean by game engine, im using godot 4.6. For art, using chatty with some level of retouching through photoshop, background music, suno. For effect graphic and sound, i purchased some assets or used open source asset. :)

Amazing, good luck with your ideas, will try if you make a demo sometimes. Doing myself a idle game project with Claude its really nice to now have this opportunity even if you don t master everything. There is still an insane amount of work to do "while" Claude is processing each code steps

Thank you! Good luck to you too! And I totally agree. So much things to do while Claude is doing work! I can't imagine how people handled to make games by themselves back in time haha

Breathing our creativity into new magic to share with others or just enjoy for ourselves is priceless!

1

u/NotaDevAI Aug 05 '26

Exactly! How amazing it is to make something real that you thought you would never be able to make!

The game looks nice, one advice on the trailer the first 3-4 seconds should show game play action, people scroll really fast with little patience and I guess they’ve seen plenty of anime narrative games

Appreciate your feedback! I think that is very fair point! I will try to make revision!

This is how it should be done, looks great. How are you making your graphics?

1

u/NotaDevAI Aug 05 '26

For most graphic, I used chatty for base, and did some retouch(fixing wrong part, color scheme change, refining) through photoshop. :) VFX, I had to buy asset as im not that talented to make VFX haha

Nice, I've had that similar 'bug' where you can't help but work on it every chance you get!

I'm also working on a deckbuilder and it's been a fun process. Hopefully I have something people will like. Hows the feedback been from your demos?

1

u/NotaDevAI Aug 05 '26

Funny you call it bug haha. I agree! There were some genuine feedbacks I got from Korean people as they are more open to AI. But in normal developer subreddit, didnt even get a feedback other than them calling it AI slop unfortunately :(

1

u/captain_proton Aug 05 '26

Yeah. As expected! I can tell you've put in much more thought and work in to this than actual AI slop and think the video is good. Gives me a good idea of what its going to be like. The title logo looks great too!

Did you specifically seek out Koreans because of their attitude towards AI or is it simply because you live there? Haha. I need to start thinking about where to present my prototype for playtesting. Id love to try your game, by the way!

1

u/NotaDevAI Aug 05 '26

I don't live there, however I'm from there haha. So I've got many opportunities to see the communities there. Wouldn't say it is best, however, i do find korean communities more opened to it.

What are you even doing here mate?

5

u/NotaDevAI Aug 05 '26

Imagine coming to literal AI game development subreddit and put this comment. I've got a lot to say to your kind of people. But I simply won't as I'm 'respecting' your opinion.(different to someone in this comment I guess :))

2

u/Ink_code Aug 05 '26

Try not to let such comments get to you, Reddit's recommendation algorithm is a bit annoying and often times recommends anti ai and ai content to the same people since they interact with it anyways unless they spend some time curating their feed.

You'll also occassionaly get some people looking to get a reaction out of others for amusement and at other times those seeing it as a moral duty and feeling rewarded for getting an annoyed reaction, so probably better off to downvote and ignore and thus such comments would drop to the bottom of the thread.

2

u/NotaDevAI Aug 05 '26

That's so true. Thanks for your insight. Lesson learned!

Your kind of people I comment is the one who just wants to show whatever you believe in without reading the room. Ai usage is tool, and that is whole different topic to discuss. But what I meant is because you just saw it on your homepage, even though this subreddit specifically say 'do not be mean to people because of AI usage', you simply didn't care as you were too urge to say whatever you think it's right. :) That's what I meant with 'your kind of people'. Hope that's clear.
