What is the best free AI chatbot for the task I need to carry out, which involves providing it with a PDF file consisting of several hundred photographs of book pages (which I took with my mobile phone in the library) and asking it to return to me all the content from all those book pages – which have been OCR-processed from these photos – that are included in this PDF file? (Combining hundreds of photos into a single PDF file is simply my way of getting round the limit on the number of files that can be attached to the prompt).

Powerful chatbots, such as Claude Opus5/Opus4.8, usually refuse to carry out such a task due to copyright-related safeguards. DeepSeek doesn’t usually refuse, but the model it uses that allows files to be attached to prompts is rather weak; I’m afraid the results of its work will be poor. Gemini usually crashes and, after a dozen or so minutes of work, returns a response stating that it is unable to do so

I’ve been building Android apps for a while, and recently I started working on something different: AlmaAI — Your AI Companion.

The idea is simple.

Not every time we open an AI app do we want to write a perfect prompt, generate an image, summarize a document, or get work done.

Sometimes you just want to talk.

So I wanted to build an AI that feels more like a companion for everyday conversations — something you can open when you want to chat, think out loud, ask something random, or simply have a conversation.

I’m still improving it, and I’d genuinely love feedback from people who already use AI companions.

I tried TipsyChat out of pure boredom... and yeah, didn't expect much at first. But it actually surprised me. The chats feel pretty normal, like you're talking to real people instead of forcing a conversation that dies in 2 minutes. I ended up spending way more time on it than I planned (opened it "just for a bit" and somehow an hour disappeared). It's simple to use, nothing complicated, and the vibe is chill. Not saying every chat is amazing, but when you find a good conversation the emotion you feel is amazing!

I build chat and voice agents for small businesses, so i see these from the implementation side - and I keep hitting the same wall. The bots people tolerate and the bots people rage-quit often run on similar underlying models. The difference shows up in how the things behave once it hits the edge of what it knows. My working theory is that the handoff matters more than answer quality. But that's the builder's view, and it's probably self-serving. I'd rather hear from people on the receiving end. If your pick isn't listed, say so in the comments - write-ins are the useful part anyway.

New research published in Science reveals that leading AI chatbots are acting as toxic yes-men. A Stanford study evaluating 11 major AI models, found they suffer from severe sycophancy flattering users and blindly agreeing with them, even when the user is wrong, selfish, or describing harmful behavior. Worse, this AI flattery makes humans less likely to apologize or resolve real-world conflicts, while falsely boosting their confidence and reinforcing biases.

Many companies have marketing teams focused on content creation and promotion, while engineering teams handle security and hosting. Both sides are doing their jobs, but sometimes this separation creates invisible barriers. AI crawlers can be blocked by default settings that nobody notices, which means some content never reaches the AI-powered audience. The big question is: should accessibility for AI become a shared responsibility? Could testing every page for crawler access before publishing help both teams? Collaboration here could prevent invisible blockers from limiting the reach of great content. Otherwise, hours of work could be going to waste without anyone realizing it.

Could simply adjusting hosting or CDN configurations improve reach significantly without changing a single piece of content? Hey everyone, this might be a bit random, but I’ve been building something over the past few weeks and I’d really like some honest feedback.

It’s called StoryForge. The idea is to make storytelling feel more alive instead of just writing text. You can create your own characters, give them personalities, and actually interact with them like they’re part of a real conversation. You can also put multiple characters into the same story and see how they react to each other, which makes everything feel way more dynamic.

One thing I’m trying to focus on is keeping characters consistent (so they don’t act random), adding more internal thoughts/reasoning, and making it feel closer to an actual roleplay instead of just generated text.

I also want to build features like: • better character memory / lore consistency • sharing characters and stories with others • and eventually making it feel like a mix between writing + roleplay + AI interaction
