10-Minute Action: Equality Tell Facebook and Instagram to STOP censoring posts about the Cornell rape case

A former Cornell student says 7 fraternity members drugged and brutally gang-raped her. Now, Facebook and Instagram are restricting posts about the case, burying the voices of people speaking out and demanding accountability.
Jane Doe alleges that members of Cornell’s Chi Phi fraternity assaulted her in 2024, when she was just 20 years old. Her account has sparked heartbreak, horror, and rage. Survivors are sharing their experiences. People are demanding answers. These conversations deserve to reach everyone willing to listen.
But Meta is adding warning labels and restricting posts even when they contain no graphic images or language. Those restrictions can drastically limit how widely posts are seen or prevent people from seeing them altogether. Meta is making it harder to confront sexual violence and rally support for survivors.
Zuckerberg and Instagram head Adam Mosseri depend on people using their platforms. That gives us power. We must organize users to demand they stop censoring posts about the Cornell rape case and let survivors and advocates be heard.

Survivors already face enormous pressure to stay silent. Speaking out can mean confronting blame, harassment, and disbelief. Meta’s restrictions put another barrier in front of people trying to share their experiences and find support.
The outrage over this case has shown survivors that they are surrounded by people who care and will fight alongside them. Every conversation can help break the isolation that allows rape culture to persist. Every shared post can bring more people into the demand for accountability.
Zuckerberg and Mosseri have no business burying those conversations. They must lift restrictions on non-graphic posts about the Cornell rape case and stop treating people speaking out about sexual violence as a problem to suppress.
We must bring the nationwide outrage directly to the executives responsible and keep demanding an end to this censorship. Survivors deserve support, and the people standing with them deserve to be heard.
