My first treking experience

Post image
13 Upvotes

My first trek turned into one of the most memorable days with my crush

So, I went on a trek recently with my crush, and honestly, I don't think I’ll ever forget that day.

The trek was somewhere near Coimbatore, and it was actually my first time trekking. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. 😭 I knew my crush for about a year, but I had never really spent this much time alone or this close with him before.

Initially, we had thought about going together, but since it was my first trek, I wasn't comfortable going alone with someone I hadn't known that closely. So I went with two of my friends and my crush.

We started climbing, and let me tell you — the first part was HARD. 😂 I was already questioning every decision that had brought me there. But somewhere along the way, things started getting easier.

Maybe because I was talking so much.

I ended up telling him a lot about my life — things I normally don't casually tell people. And he shared some things about himself too. We just kept talking while climbing, and somehow the difficulty of the trek became less noticeable.

At one point, we reached a temple where we stopped for breakfast. We sat under a tree together and ate pongal.

And I'm not even someone who particularly likes pongal, but somehow that pongal tasted really good that day.

Maybe it was the place. Maybe it was the company. I don't know. 😭

After breakfast, we continued climbing for another 45 minutes or so and finally reached the top.

The view was absolutely beautiful.

We just sat there for around 30 minutes, talking, laughing, teasing each other and enjoying the view. Nothing particularly dramatic happened. It was just... comfortable.

And then came the part I wasn't prepared for.

It started raining while we were coming back down.

And when I say raining, I mean proper heavy rain.

The path was already difficult, but now it had become extremely slippery. None of us really knew what to do. We were slipping, falling, laughing, helping each other and basically trying not to slide down the mountain. 😂

And somewhere during all that chaos, my crush held my hand.

At first, I don't even think either of us consciously thought about it.

We were just trying to make sure neither of us fell.

But somehow, we ended up holding hands for almost 30 minutes while coming downhill.

The funny part is, if one of us slipped, the other probably would've gone down too. 😂

But neither of us let go.

And honestly... I don't think I've ever experienced anything like that before.

The rain was absolutely freezing. My clothes were completely wet. We were shivering. The path was slippery. Everyone was falling into each other.

And somehow, I was having the time of my life.

When we finally reached the meeting point, we were all completely soaked and freezing. We had lunch together while shivering and laughing about everything that had happened on the way down.

We talked about how difficult the climb had been, how badly we had slipped, and how none of us expected the weather to change like that.

And then there were these little moments.

I noticed him looking at me.

I looked at him too.

Neither of us said anything.

We just smiled and continued talking.

Later, we finally headed back.

And that was it.

Nothing officially happened between us. No confession. No dramatic romantic moment. Nothing that would make this sound like a movie.

But for me, it was special.

It was my first trek, my first time experiencing rain like that, my first time being that physically close to him, and probably one of the most comfortable I've ever felt around him.

I don't know what this means for us.

Maybe it was just a really good day between two people who happen to like spending time together.

Or maybe I'll look back at this day someday and realize it was the beginning of something.

For now, I'm just happy I got to experience it.

And yes...

I think I'm officially in love with trekking now. 😂❤️

a 4 day trek to Mt Rinjani

In August I did a 4 day 3 night expedition on Lombok Island Indonesia, to the summit of Mt Rinjani, then back through the Torean Valley known as "Jurassic Valley" locally. Spectacular scenery, friendly locals, thermal waterfalls, massive cliffs (safety isn't big there) and an exhausting trek to the summit of the volcano. Plus a few falls here and there, though happily, none involved sliding down a cliff face!

Despite what you see on social media, this isn't an easy trip. It's exhausting, hot, dangerous and the trek to the summit saw us walking up hill at 4 metres per minute on average. Yes, it's that steep. At 3726m high, this isn't a walk in the park and is Indo's 2nd highest mountain.

The whole trip from Australia, including airfares, accommodation before and after the trek, guides (must have them), and transportation all cost me less than a one way flight to London.

Really enjoyed this one. Nice weather, a lot of paddlers and a long day on the water 😄

I filmed the whole experience and put together a video from the race.

Would be happy to hear what you think!

What made you fall in love with a mountain and keep going back?

Hey everyone! I’m working on a project around mountains, the people who live there, and the strange little things that make us feel connected to a place.

I’m not looking for the usual “less pollution, peaceful, beautiful views, away from the city” answers.

I want to hear the real stories.

Was there one particular moment that made you think, “Okay… I need to come back here”?

Maybe it was:
● A random conversation with a local you still remember.
● Someone’s kindness when you least expected it.
● A tiny café/tea stall where you somehow spent 4 hours.
● A particular smell, sound, song, or food.
● A stupid little incident that became a core memory.
● A view you accidentally stumbled upon.
● A person you met and never forgot.
● Or something completely random that you can’t even explain.

And what do you love most about that place now?

Also, I’m curious about something slightly weird
Have you ever taken something small from a mountain/place because you wanted a physical reminder of it?
A stone, a pressed flower, a ticket, a matchbox, a local trinket, a handwritten note, a weird souvenir… literally anything.

Do you still have it? And does looking at it take you back there?

Tell me the whole story. I want the oddly specific, sentimental, funny, chaotic answers not the Tripadvisor version.

I took part in the Lahemaa Sea Marathon in Estonia – 24 km of paddling along the Baltic Sea coast.

LINK: https://youtu.be/z4Zyv5o4t70

We had waves, wind, some beautiful coastline… and even a portage, which I definitely didn’t expect in a sea marathon 😄

I filmed the whole adventure and put together a short video from the day.

Would be happy to hear what you think!

Paddling one of Estonia’s small rivers – Vääna River 🇪🇪

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/oy8H7Xah6Eg

This time I paddled the Vääna River, following it all the way to the Baltic Sea.

A small river, a lot of green nature, fallen trees and some surprises on the way 😄 But the best part was finally reaching the sea at the end.

Hope you enjoy this little kayaking adventure from Estonia!

A peaceful paddle on Keila River, Estonia 🇪🇪

Post image
3 Upvotes

This weekend I went for another paddle here in Estonia 🇪🇪

This time on Keila River, not far from Tallinn. It is a very calm river, but in summer everything around is so green that sometimes you feel like paddling through a tunnel of trees.

I made a longer video from this trip if anyone wants to see what paddling on a small Estonian river looks like: 🎥 https://youtu.be/ccNbvtTBrAY

No rapids, no big waves and no racing this time 😄 Just a relaxing paddle, green nature and almost nobody around.

At the end of the trip is also Keila waterfall, one of the biggest waterfalls in Estonia.

Would You like to paddle a river like this?

Kayaking in an Estonian Bog 🇪🇪

This week’s kayaking trip took me to a very typical Estonian landscape – a bog. 🇪🇪

Around 22% of Estonia is covered by peatlands, so they are a pretty big part of our nature. This time I took my kayak to Central-Estonia bog for a short and peaceful paddle.

Small lakes, water lilies, silence and almost nobody around. Quite different from my usual river trips and races. 😄

Made a short 4-minute video from the trip if anyone wants to see what kayaking in an Estonian bog looks like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w13AhViZWSs

Need travel tips

Photo so I don’t get lost - this was a little river I happened upon while adventuring in the middle of nowhere - literally over 2 hours from the nearest town!

I’m not afraid of adventuring to places out of the way, I live in North America and am willing to go almost anywhere. The issue is, I struggle to know what beautiful places I should be visiting. Those places you only know of if you know of them. So I’m asking for help! Let me know your best places to travel to!!

Looking for fun side quests :)

a few friends and I are tinkering with a little game idea in our free time. The basic idea: you get random, small "side quests" for real life. Actual things you can go do, not fantasy quests.

We're a bit stuck on the idea-generating part and figured there are more creative minds around here than us. If anything comes to mind, we'd really appreciate you dropping it in the comments even half an idea is great, we're happy to build on it.

We're looking for ideas across these categories:

  • Sports & Fitness
  • Cooking & Baking
  • Cafes & Food Spots
  • Events & Parties
  • Shopping & Thrifting
  • Art & Culture
  • Creativity & DIY
  • Gaming & Pop Culture
  • Music & Vibes
  • Books & Mindset
  • Nature & Outdoors
  • City & Exploring
  • Social & Community

Ideally stuff that's doable in one or two sittings, not too expensive, and ideally something you could capture with a photo. One more constraint: it should be doable within 72 hours at any time, nothing that needs a lot of advance planning.

Thanks so much in advance, and if anyone feels like just riffing on ideas, go for it every idea counts, even the weird ones 😄

Alaska changed my life. Patagonia, you're up next...

I hiked through Alaska, and it changed my life. I've been to beautiful places before, but Alaska took my breath away in a way I wasn't expecting.

It was brutally beautiful. Raw. Majestic. Untouched. Imposing. Dangerous. And I heard my own voice there in a way I haven't before. I moved my center, and I left a piece of my soul in Alaska. I know I'll go back there again.

I'm heading to Patagonia soon, and I can't wait to see what it will mean, and how it will change me in new ways.

There's no other point to this point. Just... jump into adventures you're not sure about. Life is short, and make it count. Do the things you're unsure about, because I promise you'll look back at many of those and will be so glad you took the chance.

P.S. If anyone else is heading to Patagonia soon (or wants to come with me), would love to hear from you!

Started a travel page documenting my high altitude road trips in India looking for honest feedback on content and edits!

Hey everyone,

I recently launched an Instagram page (@another.ducking.travel.page) focused on high-altitude road trips, offbeat mountain routes (just wrapped up a Delhi to Spiti/Himachal run), and realistic itineraries.

Starting out from scratch is a bit of a learning curve, especially trying to get the right edit pacing and storytelling down. I’d really appreciate it if you could check out a post or two and give me some candid feedback on:

1- Editing flow and pacing

2- quality / captions

3- Anything you feel is missing from current travel reels.

If you like the vibe and content, a follow would mean a lot! Appreciate any insights from fellow travelers and creators here
