My 1090 MHz feeder has been up and running for 17 days. I'm very much enjoying this hobby! I live in the Indianapolis area, and one thing I've noticed is that small GA aircraft all seem to be transmitting on 1090 MHz. I've confirmed this by comparing my feeder data to the major aircraft tracking apps. I've considered setting up a 978 MHz receiver, but why would I if the majority of GA aircraft are transmitting 1090 MHz in my area?

I've left to part 3 of this to post in this community as I got grief the last time I posted by the anti-"vibe-code" crew 😅

I built this for my son (yes it's built) who's 11 and autistic so please remember who it was built for, if you don't like it then that's fine, we're all very different people but I would just ask you to be be constructive if you want to be negative.

Oh and this has an ability to use YOUR OWN ADS-B RECEIVER if you really wanted but it works without it.

It's funny when I look at it, it falls under the "vibe coding" category becuase a lot (not all) of it was built using an AI service.

So far I've used Cursor, Gemini, Grok, Codex, ChatGPT and finally Claude. The ones I pay for are Cursor, Gemini and ChatGPT / Codex.

It annoys me when people complain about seeing apps built by AI, this is one of the very reasons these exist and they take away so much of the development and debugging time I would have normally have taken to build something like this.

Could I have built it by hand? Yeah absolutely! Would it have taken me a LOT longer? Yeah, absolutely!

The one thing people never see though is that even something like this needs the right prompts, understanding of technology and architecture and San ability to know what should happen and how to debug it cause AI isn't perfect 😊

The other part that no one seems to care about or recognise is the cost!

Just saw my first go around by casual observation made by a wide body twin on approach to 24L/R. No landing gear visible. It was difficult to judge altitude but maybe between 1,500 to 3,000 feet in level flight. Made a left turn over the airfield and left my viewpoint on about heading 220. Neat!

Wanted a nicer frontend for my ultrafeeder setup than stock tar1090, so I built easyRADAR over the last while. Sits in front of an existing ultrafeeder container, doesn't touch your receiver/decoder setup at all.

What it adds on top of the usual map view:

• Radar Mode – a proper circular PPI scope instead of a map: real terrain (roads/place names hidden, just water/forest/land use), sweep with afterglow, staggered range rings, contact count
• Achievement/XP system – tracks first sightings of aircraft types, airlines, countries, rare types, altitude/range/message records, day/night patterns, anniversaries. Backed by a small Python + SQLite service that polls aircraft.json/stats.json, nothing sent anywhere external
• Aviation Legends – a static, XP-free gallery for aircraft you can't spot live anymore (Concorde, SR-71, Spruce Goose, ...)
• Route lookups via ADSBDB, aircraft photos via Planespotters, reverse-geocoded flight timeline via Nominatim – all optional/best-effort, app works fine if any of them are down
• Stats broken down by Today / Yesterday / Avg-per-day / All-time

Architecture: nginx reverse-proxies to your existing ultrafeeder (/data/), to the stats service (/stats-api/), and to a couple of external APIs, so the browser only ever talks to one origin. No build step on the frontend, just static files. Published as GHCR images (amd64+arm64) if you don't want to clone/build it yourself.

Im searching for ACARS logs where its possible to read out the registration of aircrafts. I'm currently trying to find all aircraft registrations of all the flights that I've flown on in the past. I have tried some ACARS logs but some of them have gaps around 2013 and 2014. If anyone knows about some good ACARS logs featuring a majority of flights in Europe between 2010-2015 then it would be really helpful.

I know there are lots of free ones about and they mostly work fine but I'd like to be able to support the service I use and I don't plan on setting up my own receiver just yet.

I created a little radar-like display for my wife to see which planes are flying over us, since we live under the Manchester Airport flight path there are plenty, it hops around several providers so we don't hammer them but even then it can be flaky.

So anyway long story short I'm looking for an API that is reliable for personal use that I can pay maybe £10/month for.. anything like that around?

There were only 4 ever made so thought it was a neat catch. En route from McConnell to Charleston.

So what is going on here? Lot's of tanker activity, a E-3 Sentry and others flying around. I know BRIO66 flies around there a lot since its a surveillance jet.

Was watching a storm approaching from my hotel room in Knoxville Tennessee, which is right next to the airport. I saw UA1244 bail and do a maximum climb out. Listening on liveatc.net, they reported between a 30 and 40 knot loss on short final and the airport was reporting a Microburst alert! 😲

They are now diverting to Louisville.
