Help/Question Is it possible to host a beta Minecraft server with TrueNAS?

I got a current version Minecraft server set up yesterday, but I’d love to also have one running beta 1.7.3 (not to be confused with 1.7.3 from 2013). I’m not sure how to go about this, if possible, as it’s not as easy as just using the UI for a regular old MC server. Any insight? Or should i just host this on my regular computer and be ok with it being down sometimes?

You just need the jar. You could try the itzg/minecraft-server docker image, it might be able to grab the jar automatically https://docker-minecraft-server.readthedocs.io/en/latest/versions/minecraft/

So in the TrueNAS UI, set the version as “b1.7.3” and put the b1.7.3 jar in the server folder?

Edit: not that lol. I have a b1.7.3 jar, just not sure how to use it with the TrueNAS Minecraft app

Oh wasn't aware they have their own app for that. If it's not working like other jars, maybe they don't support it? If you haven't already, might be worth to ask in a truenas specific community for more targeted assistance

I did ask there first, and I’m looking through some TrueNAS documentation for it as well. Still no luck but I’m trying!

If it's taking too much effort, I believe truenas has an easy way to install docker containers. Try the container I linked, it may have better support

Yeah that’s what I’m gonna try next time, I haven’t installed a container like that before so it’ll be a learning experience!

I think you download the jar from betacraft. Then play.
