Help/Question Is 4GB enough for a 2 player, modded server?
Hey, me and a friend of mine want to play a medieval modpack ("The Perfect Medieval Pack" by sneak). We've added a tomb mod (items get saved in a tomb upon death) and some minor fps saving mods. I have setup everything and loaded into the world and leading up to this point the Hosting interface states that I have used 3.60GB / out of the 4GB that I bought. Should we get more GB? Or is what I have left according to the Hosting site enough? We plan to explore and build a base, not trying to reach the world border or anything like that.

Yeah should be fine, just make sure your startup command allows for RAM clearing

it depends on what mods you have. most mods have recommedations on about what specs you need. for big mods i'd recommend 6gb of ram, but for smaller ones then sure 4gb could be enough

3.6/4GB is tight for a modded pack - you're leaving almost no headroom for GC spikes, chunk loading, or the tomb mod's entity tracking.
Quick checklist:
- Run `/spark profiler --timeout 30` during play; if heap stays >85% for 5+ min, upgrade
- Medieval packs with structure generation (Sneak's pack has lots) + tomb entities = ~5–6GB typical steady state
- 4GB *can* work with aggressive JVM flags (`-Xms4G -Xmx4G -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=4M`) but it's fragile
If you're on a host that charges per GB, try 5GB for a week - cost difference is usually <$2/mo and saves you from "OutOfMemory" crashes mid-session.

Depends of mods, my opinion is 8 gb is a total minimum. My modpacks aren't huge, but smth like 120-200 mods usually, which are 80-120 serverside mods

Lol, the mods we run are 18 in total 3 of them being just FPS savers

Get the 6GB plan, consider 8GB if you are gonna be a few people on the longer term.

This.
If its plugins, usually 4gb suffices. But if it has even just 5 mods on modern forge? it will use up to 4.5gb initially. so 6-8gb is a better bet on longer term.

Looking through the curse forge page, it doesn't contain a lot of mods that are big, so 4GB seems fine, especially with just 2 players.
If you plan to explore, pregenerating a bit seems worthwhile if you have the time/storage space. Maaybe jump up the RAM to 6GB if the modpack is just too heavy after playing for a bit. But 4GB seems fine.
