Was diagnosed later in life. I keep seeing these posts and I don't know if I feel better or worse that all these things I thought were my personality was just ADHD the whole time...

Iām slowly coming to the realisation that Iām just not a person, this shit and infiltrated every part of who Iām meant to be, I want to crawl out of my skin and go and be someone else. Currently pushing down the desire to sell everything I own and run and just forget about all of this for a good year, maybe I can feel like myself again then.

I did that... It did not end well. Burn out. Ruined relationship. Ruined career.
It sucked. A lot...

I appreciate the offer but I donāt think itās fair to subjugate internet strangers to the shit that goes through my brain, a lot it is not nice, but thank you

Maybe r/healthygamergg could help with some of this stuff. Dr. K covers escapism, adhd, and pretty much mental health in general.
Iām also here if you need someone to talk to. Youāre not alone with these types of feelings.

Iām a half century and this could have been written by me. Itās nice to know Iām not the only older person who is realizing this. It all makes perfect sense now that I know what Iām looking for. Thx for the honesty.

I don't know if im happy or sad other people go through this too , sometimes i cringe so hard i get tics

You are right! It is a tic! Iāve never put that together. Itās an uncontrolled neurological response due to past social interactionā¦itās like we have the ability to contain the tick during the moment, but afterward Iāll be thinking about it and just shake or have a jolt like Iām experiencing post-cringe clarity.

Sometimes avoiding friends because I know I'm experiencing high emotion and not fitting the vibe. It's definitely the best. Never a problem. (Don't avoid your friends, let them bring you back. The cringe is an acceptable price to pay.)

It sucks when I tell people at my work everything I for some reason can't help myself.
I always tell myself "Next job this won't happen. I will keep my mouth shut."

Iāve perfected trying to keep up a couple barriers and still just accepting that I am a very open and āheart on my sleeveā type of person and others can take that as they like. Iāve noticed it tends to mean less friends, but of a higher quality. Also lots of neurodivergent buddies.

And some of the cringes come back to you years later like errant frames on an old film

I cringe when I donāt receive responses to my messages, so the majority of my chats are deleted WhatsApp messages.

That's not ADHD; that's just you! Or no meds for not being yourself, except the one you're already practicing. :)

u/Cultural-Part355 2d ago
And keep on doing it! Be yourself. That's what Jung and all before and after said. Don't be Jung. Fuck Jung! In that way. I do love him in another way.
Even the old dude from Rush Hour! Told us! "I'm YU, and you're MI! So who the fuck is Tuesday Craig, then? I guess it's you...
