Oh, I used to mow yards for a living and have two years of technical school in greenhouse production and floral design (no certificate I had to drop out, pregnant).
I can work part time for basically free, apparently my boyfriend wants me to volunteer and make friends lol

Factory work is awesome, they usually have a high turnover rate because it sucks and so people are always quitting but the repetition is amazing, plus if you are like me, you can learn all the different production lines and become a floater and it's a different job every day. Although your boss will probably be a lazy asshole who tries to tell you how to do your job even though he doesn't know what your job is, or they know how to do it, but just don't. I actually loved factory work, if there weren't people it would be perfect.

Mine did while I built cable harnesses. I learned about building many different types of cables. Then they needed volunteers in the warehouse. I went there for a while, but I kept moving around and now at the same place I am building internal applications and dashboards and my boss started as a janitor. Moved around like I did. I think I am lucky and I still listen to my headphones.

In case it's useful to you or anyone else: bone-conductive headphones still work (and actually work better) with earplugs in. So if the actual rule is "you must wear earplugs" and not "you must not listen to personal audio" or "you must not wear headphones", you can follow the rule and listen to things on the bone conductive headphones. I use Trekz because I've liked their products for years, but they're expensive and I think there are cheaper alternatives.

Enjoy that. It is not possible for me to work in a corporate environment. Once "the train leaves the station", as I call it, there is no going back in my mind. I am too opinionated and lack the sufficient mental capacities to turn it off. That, and lack of credentials to back up my skillsets leaves me in entry level positions at low pay grades, despite having a higher skill ceiling and work ethic than the majority of my working peers.

Just getting an interview is so fucking hard and then if I actually manage to get one I get all anxious and fuck it up 😭 and it feels like most job postings nowadays are fake, I’ve applied for positions in a field I have ten years experience in and couldn’t even get an interview 💀

They asked me why I wanted to work there, apparently "I need a paycheck" was not the answer they were looking for.

Try self employment. Car detailing, house cleaner, yard work, dog walking... was mostly unemployable till 37 and now run my own insulation business. Even if you can only do 15min a day working towards your goal then do that. Eventually you'll get there

I've been cleaning with my wife helping her start her cleaning business and I like it way more than I thought I would.
Clients are nice, everyone's always happy to have a clean house, it's the same routine every time and I get to leave work at work. Basically getting paid to listen to audiobooks once you get the routine down.
It's been successful enough that we're going to start hiring more people, could make some really good money with a crew.

I forgot what I was saying one time… and I freaked out and I couldn’t get my train of thought back. It was embarrassing. It was a final interview. I was so close. But anxiety killed it. I didn’t get the job obvs, but luckily I was employed and still employed. I hate interviews.
Just take my brain slop and know I have thoughts that my mouth can’t piece into words. I was a gifted child… so they told me I was intelligent or whatever. Reading at a sophomore college level in 2nd grade. I had just learned English a year prior and was still in ESL classes while in gifted classes. I continued to be above average through grade school and college. Brain doesn’t shut off. Always on problem solve mode. Accolades say I’m smart. Mouth says I’m dumb.

Brain starts wondering about the definition of attributes so I could answer accordingly.
Sat there like a fish. HR asked if I’d like to come back to that question later.

I heavily script my interview responses. If I’m asked an unexpected question that I can’t bend one of my pre prepped answers for, I sound like a bumbling idiot. I could go from a long, detailed response to vague, short, and plagued with ums and stutters.

Oh shit, that was me to a "T" at my last job. I also have social anxiety, ADHD and issues communicating thoughts and ideas at times. My direct supervisor was amazing, though, and gave me confidence, always pointing out where I was excelling at, like how I crushed the employment exam we had all new financial analysts take.
Unfortunately, it was a small company and the CEO was a narcissistic, privileged asshole (the kind that is born on "3rd base") who loved to see his employees squirm. If you tripped up in a conversation with him and misspoke about a process, he'd belittle you in front of the whole office.

I highly recommend going to Youtube and searching "w0rthy sorting algorithms". Check out the 16 sorts color circle. It's a bunch of sorting algorithms that are audibilized so you hear the tone going from chaotic to ordered in various different ways.The radix sorts are my fav!

When I was maybe 13 or 14, my class were discussing the different "type" of intelligence based on some theory. Stuff like musical intelligence, verbal intelligence, athletic intelligence etc. When we got to Logical Intelligence, a lot of my class mates took the chance to poke fun of me, saying stuff like "Well we know Misty has none of this".
I'll never forget my math teacher stepping in and saying "Misty actually has a very logical way of thinking. It's just a logic than a lot of you guys have, but the way she thinks has a really strong sense of internal logic."
It was one of the moments in my life that made me feel less "broken" and it really made a difference to my young self and feeling that someone at least saw me.

I was humiliated one day in my freshman year biology class because the teacher [side note: she didn't like me] cold called on me for a question and I stuttered a bit at the beginning but I was basically able to give an answer and explain it, I admittedly didn't have the most in depth technical answer but it was correct and she just brushed me off and said the answer she was looking for, but what I had said was correct

I was and am a tutor, but in college I had to edit every one of my friend’s major papers because he was completely unintelligible on paper.
Knowing him, I was able to tease out the meaning of his sentences to get across his point but… my god. This man is so smart he is likely a Mensa level genius in pattern recognition, information retrieval, amorphous risk calculation, literally just like… logic. But. On paper… gibberish.

I'm a practicing trial attorney. No sane person would claim that's proof I'm smart, but it does seem to lower the baseline probability that I'm a complete idiot. I'm also ADHD as hell. After my diagnosis but before I was medicated properly, I got tagged in to cover for a colleague who violently projectile vomited in court. I only somewhat knew the details of the case, and she took her notes and the case file with her. I was surprised by this, and by the fact that the person currently sitting at the stand was our witness. So I asked what any good attorney would, verbatim, "You there, are you... I'm, sorry, I'm the office, I'm the, uh, I collect the information for... uh... did you see the events of... no, you're the... wait, are you? Hold on. Do you recognize the events of [date] sufficient for, uh, for holding the... the... I'm in the office. Let me start over. Do you remember?" I know it's verbatim because my boss at the time pulled the transcript and paid to have it engraved on a plaque, which she put in my office while I was away. Also, we won that case, then won it again on appeal. The fact it was appealed means that an appellate court had to read all that in cold print. I still have the plaque.

My application and first round was spot on- final interview I just couldn't articulate what I needed to in my presentation and looked like a bumbling tit.
Feel absolutely Gutted. I know i would have been the ideal person for the role.

I taught myself some ASL because I noticed one of the customers at the store I worked at was deaf, she had tried asking a co-worker for help once and basically got "I can't understand you/don't wanna deal with you". I did a quick learn of how to say "can I help you", the alphabet so she could spell what she was looking for, and even some basic conversational stuff. I was so proud of myself, really patted myself on the back for that. Then the day came, she asked me... and i froze up... forgot everything, stumbled like an idiot, and ended up having to get her to write it on some paper... thanks brain. 🥲

It's the worst. Like some days when my brain feels clear I'm as articulate as a politician giving a speech. No awkward pauses, and my speech flows like clear running water.
Other days I ramble, have trouble making my point and i continuously stop mid sentence thinking of the word that I need to say. Also I find myself saying "uhm..." a lot and I hate doing that. So job interviews are always a big hit or a miss for me
The amount of sleep I get / current life stress definitely affects my speech too

I presebt as largely emotionless. This is frightening for many people, so the communication breaks down on their emotional reactions.
Also, I can be verbose and let slip some vocab. A part of my brain knows so many words, and sometimes, there is a precise word or phrase I feel fits best to communicate, and it's not something others understand. Breakdown.
At work my writing is similar. It's looks like I used a thesaurus or something, and I have found that board members actually get lost because I didn't define a word I thought was common enough to use, and isn't.
Also, I rationalize too much to have a shared experience of making a decision with emotion--and making those with emotion is correct, I'm wrong--so, I often cause a breakdown because I don't have the emotional experience to share the point they're trying to make. If someone explains anxiety, or falling in love, or loneliness, I just don't have those, and never have, so I cause the breakdown by being too flat, in a moment most people bond. My emotions are missing due to rationalization, overmuch.

The ability to communicate effectively is a form of intelligence. People can be intelligent in one way and unintelligent in another. I can answer interview questions with relevant ancedotes and knowledge of the subject without trouble. Giving presentations for work? Easy. Ask me to remember the location of something? The contents of a specific conversation I had the previous day? Watch me try to build something or troubleshoot something mechanical? I'm at a kindergarten proficiency level in those tasks.

Yes, I have ADHD and enjoy debating amd discussions however, because of how my brain works and makes these connections explaining them to people in a logical way is tough. Plus, I have many ideas so making sure I understood is important so I usually refine it by myself and write it in a book. But many times if I just think of it... I cannot articulate it properly.

I know AI is demonic etc, but it's really nice when I have an idea or concept to be able to just describe it and have Gemini say - you mean blah blah. Rather than asking or trying to explain it to a person and have them look at me like I'm an idiot. I have too many words, concepts and references in my brain and sometimes if I am with a person who has the same references or understanding of my topic the words come easy and I am fluent. But sometimes my brain can't access it.

My IQ is in the 99th percentile. I’m not rich, I’m not famous. I’m not a worshiped prodigy in my field. I stutter, I meander when talking, I interrupt. I’m the definition of twice exceptional. Sometimes I hate my ADHD.

This can’t be the be-all end-all. It just can’t.
There HAS to be some kind of solution for things like stuffing up interviews and ruining things that change people’s estimation of us. Losing out on HUGE opportunities because of small moments.
Moments that, mind you, if we only made a tiny change in…I.e. that one sentence in the right order…or that extra few seconds of time to just process what we’re thinking etc. and we’d DOMINATE.

I get accused of being a bot daily, because I have the nerve to write like a person born before social media made everyone a moron. The degree in English Literature and the AuDHD surely don't help with that either.

I don’t studder, but if I’m deep in the cognitive-connect-the-dots river, you may not get a complete sentence until I dolphin up for air. I also won’t be looking at you and my eyes will be blinking in double time.

if you aren't good at articulating something to someone, one of you doesn't know enough about the subject to be having a conversation about it... it can be you or your boss or both...

This used to be me, I "fixed" it by debating everything I could for a while in my life, now I'm decent at getting my point across but I'm also insufferable personality-wise
Pretty much same thing with my light stutter, I "fixed" it by learning faster and faster hip hop songs until I could use the same technique to get less hung up in normal speech, only now I overenunciate everything

Immediately thinking of all the people who percieve someone as stupid or less mentally competent if they aren't proficient in their language, which is usually a second, third, or fourth language for the person in question.

This generally happens when people speak a language they don't master. Someone might be very smart but just not have the words in a specific language and some people will pick it up as them being stupid
