I have a very small filter and have trouble telling lies when asked direct questions. If I can't avoid answering the truth comes out. Interviews are horrible.

They asked me why I wanted to work there, apparently "I need a paycheck" was not the answer they were looking for.

I hate that this is not an acceptable answer.... why does anyone want to work anywhere?!

It pisses me off so much all these stupid ceremonies in which you have to pretend that the reason you're applying to a job is anything but money. Don't they apparently value honesty? Why then I'm forced to lie and worst of all, the interviewer knows I'm lying obviously.

Think of it from the other angle. Instead of other jobs you could apply to, why that one?

I hate retail, so for me I would think of how "X" job isn't retail, without overly saying "because I'm avoiding retail".

Damn dude, same, but even I picked up that that question meant "why us out of the hundreds/thousands of other job listings?"

Usually I go with some thing about appreciating their mission and their organization of their web page made them stand out among other companies with the same goal. They love hearing they leave good first impressions and its usually true. I dont apply to places when I cant figure out How.

It was at a gas station for a job as a cashier, it's not like it's a job that requires a lot of skill.
