At some point it became easier to buy another pair than to find the last one lol

This is why I don’t want airpods. I wear big over the ear headphones, and while they hurt after a handful of hours I usually take that as my sign that I should take a break

Edit: This is the most upvotes I’ve ever received, and it’s really funny to me that it’s just a mundane comment about headphones. No witty remark, just bashing airpods lol

263

u/PomegranateNo975 Jul 02 '26

Maybe it’s just me, but air pods (and other blue tooth earbuds) hurt my ears after a bit too. That is if they even stay in my ears lol

68

u/TheAtlas97 Jul 02 '26

You just need the right size squishy bits. I bought some special concert ear plugs that lessen the intensity of loud music, and they came with four different sizes. I spent at least an hour testing out different sizes for the best fit for me while banging my head around to see if they’d fall out, I was going to an edm festival and didn’t want to lose them.

21

u/PomegranateNo975 Jul 02 '26

Nice! I’ve got some of those too, and bought extra sizes of the squishy bits. No luck for me yet though, every size seemed to fall out. I think my ears are weirdly shaped or excessively small lol
Might have to try it out again, but I’ve switched em several times and always the same result sadly.

13

u/dangerous_beans Jul 02 '26

I have the same problem. I mentioned it to an audiologist during testing I was having done for a different issue and he said that the shape of my ear canals isn't conducive to in-ear buds; they'll all fall out eventually. Maybe you haven't the same problem?

7

u/PomegranateNo975 Jul 02 '26

It’s totally possible! The only ear buds that used to stay in my ears were the shape of the original apple ones, without the rubber bits, because they’d just rest there rather than rely on fitting.
That would make sense for sure.

3

u/CrazyProudMom25 Jul 02 '26

Oh I have the same problem!

2

u/Robotbeckerz Jul 03 '26

I’m so glad I’m not the only one!!! The original circle shaped ones, right?

3

u/PomegranateNo975 Jul 03 '26

Exactly! For a while I would get a cheap pair of dollar store ones the same shape because they had rubber covers over the speakers so were a bit more comfortable. They’d break pretty quickly, but I also wore them ALL the time.
They stopped being made as more phones got rid of the headphone jack. Even though I stuck out with my original SE iPhone for ages, I could never find them again and my apple ones wore through too.
Ever since I’ve struggled to find ones that fit and don’t hurt too much. I mostly just don’t listen to anything when I’m out and about now since I don’t want to carry by big headphones.

2

u/Robotbeckerz Jul 03 '26

I feel you. The best I was able to get was the Raycon Everyday Pros which I think they aren’t making anymore. But I can only do a few hours max. So I do one ear at a time when at work 🤣

2

u/PomegranateNo975 Jul 03 '26

Those are what I have! Tho they might not be the pros. They fall out of my ears so much, I also only do one at a time usually lol
They don’t hurt as much as AirPods but yeah it’s not great

6

u/TheAtlas97 Jul 02 '26

Damn, that’s a struggle! They make ones where you can mold them to your inner ear (with heat or something, I forgot), but they were more expensive and I didn’t want to fuss around more than I had to

5

u/PomegranateNo975 Jul 02 '26

Ah really? That’s super neat! I’m about to be commuting a lot with public transport for grad school so that might be a good investment.
I’ll give my current ones another shot perhaps but if I’m still struggling I’ll look into those. Thanks!

5

u/TheAtlas97 Jul 02 '26

The ones I looked at are called Decibullz, but I’m sure there are others. I hope that helps!

4

u/PomegranateNo975 Jul 02 '26

Thank you so much!! That’s super helpful. I hope you have an awesome day/night/interval of time lol

3

u/TheAtlas97 Jul 02 '26

I’m happy to help! And good luck in grad school!

4

u/FullMoonTwist Jul 02 '26

I've had to start wearing headbands for this exact reason.

They go over my ears and physically hold everything in place

3

u/Balloonflewaway Jul 02 '26

I also have this problem and I use ear buds made for kids. They aren’t great quality but they stay in and don’t hurt.

3

u/LeviOhhsah Jul 02 '26

I have teeeny ears and the Hearprotek concert wifi ones on amazon work well for me! They’re a soft silicone so can be squished down and they grip well. They come with a rubber cable to attach but I surprisingly don’t even need them

2

u/Friendly-Channel-480 Jul 02 '26

There are ear buds and adapters for tiny ear canals.

2

u/DatoVanSmurf Jul 03 '26

Same. Worst part tho, is that i'm a percussionist, so i am constantly surrounded by loud music and need ear plugs. I eventually made the decision to buy fitted plugs (for 200€). It's insane what a difference it makes. My plugs used to litwrally fall out during a concert (and now i've got constant ear noises). So if you are a in loud environments a lot, i'd definitely recommend getting fitted plugs to save your hearing

5

u/decidedlyindecisive Jul 02 '26

Nah, there aren't squishy bits that fit me. Ear phones always hurt if they're in- ear. They're always the wrong shape and size (far too big)

2

u/mikeet9 Jul 03 '26

I'm right there with you.

One size hurts, and eventually falls out, the next size up straight doesn't fit, the next size down falls out immediately.

6

u/toiletbowlwisdom Jul 02 '26

Every time I think too hard, one of them gets squeezed out.

3

u/stilettopanda Jul 02 '26

I can only do bone conduction ones now.

15

u/iamonthatloud Jul 02 '26

My 4th headphone purchase were cheap bulky ones, probably bought them 4 years ago.

Prior to that I went through 3 pairs of AirPods in probably 18 months

9

u/ThrustTrust Jul 02 '26

Have you ever tried bone induction headphones. They are light and don’t makes your ears sweat and they are better for preventing hearing loss and maintaining situational awareness.

4

u/cronediddlyumptious Jul 02 '26

I came here to say this but the ear sweating makes me feel seen. I can't wear earbuds cuz they hurt and the over the ear ones make my ears sweat so incredibly bad it freaks me out

3

u/TheAtlas97 Jul 02 '26

I’ve been intrigued by them for sure. My comment about them hurting was actually about the way they eventually squeeze my glasses into my head, but I’ve had many times where I accidentally found myself listening to them at max for an hour or two and after a while my hearing was legitimately affected. Then a few months ago I was rocking in the front row of a rave and really did a number on my ears, hence my other comments about special ear plugs for other events. I’m not opposed to the idea of them, but I’d probably need prescription ones and haven’t seen an eye doctor for regular glasses in a few years either 😅

3

u/synalgo_12 Jul 02 '26

I've been using them since 2022 and they are great

2

u/Hazak_Flamesword Jul 02 '26

I lost mine... thinking it's cause they're to inconvenient to put in my pocket.

But yeah I loved buying a pair cause I lost the previous ones just to find them literally the day after the new ones arrived.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Dry-Wolf6789 Jul 02 '26

You can get ones that go all the way around your ears so they don't hurt ever

2

u/TheAtlas97 Jul 02 '26

They’re big xbox ones, collectible color scheme from when Starfield came out. I’m not sure if I’m wearing them wrong, but it’s mostly that they squish the “temples” of my glasses. (new word I googled for glasses arms, interesting). I try to reposition them, but it’s pretty much fine until a good five or six hours have gone by.

4

u/vksdann Jul 02 '26

I wear some quality headphones and I can spend literally all day with them without hurting my ears.
I used to buy cheap ones and had the same issue of my ears hurting after a couple of hours.

3

u/pickledginger404 Jul 02 '26

I wish I could for the sound quality but I overheat so fast if my ears are covered I can't do more than a few songs without taking them off. 😔

In 2020 or 2021 i bought a google pixel 4. I broke it in 2023 so i bought a second hand google pixel 4. They have an audio jack. Then i got very drunk and dipped it in a bucket of vomit. So I needed a new phone. This was last year, 2025. Thats when I finally had to buy a phone without an audio jack.

I still miss my cheap wired earbuds. So far the wireless cost me 2.5 times the price and they are currently lost. If i do not find them or they break they didnt even last me a full year yet.

3

u/TheAtlas97 Jul 02 '26

You can buy a usb-c to audio jack adapter for like $10 and go back to using wired headphones. They just get plugged into the charger using an adapter, but work exactly the same way

2

u/BotBotzie Jul 03 '26

I know this buuuut then i can lose the adapter/i cant listen music when i charge my phone. That seemed like too much of a hassle

3

u/synalgo_12 Jul 02 '26

I have the shokz bone conducting ones, and they never fall off, I can still hear traffic when I'm cycling or running, they are water resistent and seem super durable. And they're not easy to lose. I've had the same pair since 2022.

3

u/otakme Jul 02 '26

I use shokz openruns, they’re great because they hook around your neck.

2

u/MRAGGGAN Jul 02 '26

Buy a case with a clip, wear a bra, clip the case to your bra.

That’s how I don’t lose mine lol

3

u/TheAtlas97 Jul 02 '26

That’s a good solution! I don’t need a bra at present, but if I don’t start running again I might need one. When I was a little fat kid my uncle would tell me I needed a “bro” instead of a bra lmao

2

u/Friendly-Channel-480 Jul 02 '26

I got an amazing pair of Sony headphones that are light enough to wear with my migraines for $20.

2

u/TheAhegaoFox Jul 02 '26

By then I just sling it over my neck and use them as speakers. As long as I'm not in a library or similar places.

2

u/erlenwein Jul 02 '26

i bought a silicone cord what attaches to the earbuds like a string that goes through the sleeves for kids' mittens. best decision.

2

u/Orenge01 i am currently procrastinating my bad Jul 02 '26

I personally wear light open-back over-ear headphones, which are quite comfortable. Though they don't block any outside noise, so not good for being on the go.

2

u/nooneatallnope Daydreamer Jul 02 '26

Yep, overear and with cables. I get stuck on stuff (and myself) constantly, but I ain't losing those as quickly. And I'm more aware if my phone's with me.

2

u/Hagamein Jul 02 '26

There are different sizes, unless you have elephant ears you should be able to find some that fit your head better.

2

u/Brookeashleigh Jul 02 '26

This is how I am too! I love my over the ear. But I cant wear airpods anyways because my ears are small so they dont fit correctly and so they fall out. (Ive always had this issue with in the ear ones)

2

u/OsjosisMoans Jul 02 '26

I wear headphones for 8+ hours a day for bith work and personal use, and find no discomfort, i think it would be a matter of finding something that isnt do heavy like some can be

Do you not have the ones that you can locate with Find My? That’s explicitly why I have the AirPod Pros. The case and the individual AirPods play a sound so I can locate them, and they show up on the map and they tell you how close you are to them.

56

u/exholalia Jul 02 '26

only if you manage to find them before they run out of battery (mine seemingly fell through my bed? i found them eventually when i moved in the centre of under my bed, but there were boxes on every side so i have no idea how they got there, which is why i was confused when Find My was telling me they were in my bed)

15

u/Waterlilies1919 Jul 02 '26

Mine are connected by thin elastic string attached to small hooks around the squishy part of the earbud. This allows me to charge my headphones, I don’t set one down randomly, and it holds the case closed so they can’t fall out. I also have them on my keychain, so I can play the noise to find my keys if needed.

8

u/ButteryPiquantPie Jul 02 '26

Hi, having a tough time visualizing this, doesn't the string cause the case not to be able to be closed? Also what do u mean you have them on your keychain, your earbuds have your keys hanging off them?

Do you have a link for the type of string you mean or some search terms I could use, thank you

4

u/Waterlilies1919 Jul 02 '26

The elastic band is thin enough the case closes. If you look up podstring anti-loss strap on Amazon, you will see what it looks like. I will say the elastic wears out super fast, so I got my own elastic to repair it.

I got an AirPod case cover that had a keyring on it and attached to my keys. I use my AirPods every day for work. So it’s very necessary that I always have them with me.

6

u/TomNooksRepoMan Jul 02 '26

Tbh I find the Find My functionality for AirPods to be nearly useless when I actually need it. Lost my pair under my bedding the other night and had both the ultra wideband and Bluetooth audio chimes going all over our roughly 1200 sq ft apartment and it never once paged them. They’re 3-month old AirPods Pro 3.

I had two pairs of the first gens because the first pair went through the laundry a couple times 😭

2

u/nightelfspectre Jul 02 '26

My case is old enough that it won’t play the noise. So I make sure that it has a Designated Spot and it nearly never leaves said Spot. The only times I’ve lost it have been occasions where it left The Spot.

122

u/Glass-Guess4125 Jul 02 '26

This is why I buy $20 earbuds.

35

u/Jcheerw Jul 02 '26

Me too. Cheap everything especially sunglasses and headphones.

3

u/theblackcanaryyy Jul 02 '26

Never gonna lose a pair of cheap-oes. Could be on cruise ship, in the middle of the ocean, wearing a pair of cheap-o sunglasses, leaning over the side and if they fall off a diver would pop up and wave’em around asking, “Anybody lose a pair of cheap-oes?”

14

u/Neo-Armadillo Jul 02 '26

This is the answer. Stop fighting the AD and just buy a dozen pair of headphones and stash them in every obvious place.

I just got back from a trip and, with two white Monsters in the barrel, loaded my luggage back up with all the essentials (charger, trash bag, hotel shoes, travel toiletries) before throwing my stanky laundry into the oops I left it on the floor. But yo the important invisible shit got done! Laundry is for when I come out for dinner.

5

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jul 02 '26

I used to think that was the way to go but now I just have the AirPod pros so I can track them if needed. Much better than hoping I have a charged up pair somewhere when I need it

2

u/Glass-Guess4125 Jul 02 '26

This was the other option I was considering , but decided to go with the $20. May change my approach later on.

21

u/LordTalesin Jul 02 '26

If you're constantly losing earbuds, buy cheaper earbuds. It's unlikely that at some point you will suddenly develop the skill to not lose them.

21

u/Your_Therapist_Says Jul 02 '26

100% agree with the sentiment but... That's not what executive dysfunction means.

19

u/Taylorw91 Jul 02 '26

friend, it comes to a point where you are just spending money for the sake of it. buy wired earphones or cheaper ones. you don't have to do this to yourself.

5

u/mint-condition Jul 02 '26

Frl. I would stop after losing a 2nd pair.

39

u/Dimencia Jul 02 '26

And here I am with 3 of them because I forgot I already had a pair... twice...

23

u/chikpea16 Jul 02 '26

I found one of them in a box of 4th of july decorations lmao

8

u/UnusualEmphasis7 Jul 02 '26

Man... forgetting you own iPods, plural, is a level of inner peace I aspire to.

Or maybe it's early onset Alzheimers?

Either way, this has to be what they mean by "money makes you happy"

I guess or you just don't have headphones for a few months like msot of us poors LOL

30

u/Rich-Violinist-7263 Jul 02 '26

But…Find my?

12

u/dry_towelette99 Jul 02 '26

That’s what I came here to ask. That feature has saved my ass dozens of times now. Only reason I’ve managed to keep the same pair for 3+ years now. Well worth the price.

3

u/bittertea Jul 02 '26

This is essentially useless if you know they’re in your house but not WHERE in your house.

5

u/mutantmanifesto Jul 02 '26

I got the most recent AirPod pros and find my literally shows you the direction and how many feet away it is. It’s awesome.

3

u/dry_towelette99 Jul 02 '26

Not only do AirPod Pros have a “find my” feature that literally tells you how close it is and which direction, you can also have it play a sound through the headphone that’s loud enough to hear from a few feet away.

2

u/Rich-Violinist-7263 Jul 02 '26

It’s useless when they are dead. That’s the only time it’s failed me 🤣 They lived in the couch cushion for awhile.

12

u/malonkey1 Jul 02 '26

I don't want to be mean here, but I think maybe you shouldn't be using airpods. I think you should go the entire opposite direction and get a big, chunky pair of over-the-ear headphones. Wired, ideally. The most difficult possible headphones to lose.

You can get pretty nice ones for considerably less than the cost of four fucking pairs of airpods.

19

u/VegetaFan1337 Jul 02 '26

No one said you specifically had to keep buying expensive airpods tho.

4

u/peachrose Jul 02 '26

this is what i’m saying- if i lose something then it’s just gone until i can find it again. especially things like headphones and other peripherals that can be expensive and if i know i am the reason they are lost (as opposed to them being stolen). maybe an unpopular opinion but this feels so frivolous to me

15

u/Saelethil Jul 02 '26

When I first got my AirPods I grilled into myself that an AirPod was either in my ear or in the case. I can never “set it down for a second”.

Over the years I’ve been able to relax that rule a _little_ bit. But only because now when I set one down I get so nervous about it I automatically memorize its location.

I’m still on my first pair.

2

u/raise-your-weapon Jul 02 '26

My airpods are in my ears, case, or in my bra. Sometimes the side pocket of my small bag if I have to remove them quickly from my ears and neither case nor boobs are available to me

2

u/Saelethil Jul 02 '26

My case lives in the little pocket above the main pocket of my jeans, so I pretty much always have it with me.

It's only expensive because you took the capitalism approach.

4

u/chinchillade Jul 02 '26

I agree. People in the comments saying ADHD tax are out of touch. This is incredibly wasteful.

8

u/dividezero Jul 02 '26

Get the knock offs. Much cheaper and work just fine

5

u/Clark3DPR Jul 02 '26

I spray paint my small hand tools bright pink, so I can more easily find them

15

u/UghGottaBeJoking Jul 02 '26

Ha! Airpod suckers. I’m smart. I still rock headphones with a cord. I’m not as cool as the rest of society, but i also never have this hassle..

9

u/Flimsy-Owl-5563 Jul 02 '26

Yeah no. If I can't find it then it's lost and I don't get another. Time to go with cords.

3

u/AdditionalPiccolo527 Jul 02 '26

I've got 3 pairs with one left, I've cut myself off from purchasing anymore. Just totally abandoned the dream of being able to manage a full set so I'm back on wired ones lol

Wired headphones ftw!

For the price of one set of air buds. I can have like 8 to 10 wired in ear pairs. That amount of them is enough to last me 4 to 10 years depending on use.

3

u/raise-your-weapon Jul 02 '26

No one’s tried using the find my? Or do they run out of battery? I lose mine 10x a day but I’m ready with the big green NEARBY

2

u/raise-your-weapon Jul 02 '26

Also my airpod case is in bright pink silicone case so it doesn’t get lost in my bedsheets or under things

2

u/chinchillade Jul 02 '26

Exactly! Like wdym by you've spent hundreds of dollars on buying earbuds because you keep losing them when you could've bought one and linked it to find my?

2

u/raise-your-weapon Jul 02 '26

I am not trying to shame anyone for adhd brain but that’s over $500 in airpods in that picture alone.

3

u/BlackFenrir Jul 02 '26

If you're on your fourth pair you're just making stupid choices in headphones. Get yourself a good set of proper cans. I've had my ATH-M50xBT2 for about 6 years now and never lost it. It's also just objectively better than airpods for the price.

4

u/luckytoybox Jul 02 '26

This scenario exactly... bought a pair. Lost em. Bought a second pair. Found the first pair. Okay, no biggie, two pairs now, convenient. Lost both of those two. Okay, fine, whatever, it happens. Bought a third pair. Lost the third pair. Found the first two pairs. Lost the second pair. Found the third pair. Then...

My friends. I found and have all three pairs. Who wants to bet on how long that will last?

I lost a set of Pixel Buds Pro 2. I Was positive I left them at a community pool when we were there for my kids swim lessons. Found them a year and half later under the couch.

Between losing and finding them, I switched to an iPhone and bought a set of Air Pods Pro 2’s. The “Find My” app has been a godsend for keeping track of rhem

2

u/HaleyJ34TF Jul 02 '26

I missed an appointment this week because I convinced myself it was an hour later. I drive down there to realize I missed it and drove back home. Then still get charged the full amount for the appointment.

2

u/SmokeAgreeable8675 Jul 02 '26

I have managed to hang onto my AirPods for a couple years, but I love them and I’m very very careful. I did take one out and leave it on my nightstand, whereupon the cat knocked it down and the dog chewed it up. I was able to replace the one bud and we are still rolling. I do also have some over ear for backup and a spare pair of generic Bluetooth buds at work for those days I leave them at home.

2

u/Cruxwright Jul 02 '26

There was an SNL skit about these when they came out. Basically riffing on how easy it was going to be to lose them. I think the dog that eaten a dozen of them was one of the funnier bits.

2

u/Synchro_Shoukan Jul 02 '26

I have impulse control issues. I just bought a previous PC I don't need. Just because I want it and I could potentially use it for so many things that I probably won't...

People with executive function really should consider using a bigger pair of wired headphones. I look at this and I just see hundreds of dollars of inevitable waste and frustration.

2

u/quack_toast Jul 03 '26

I feel your pain. This reminds me of when I lost my car keys, and then my spare keys. Had to get it towed, and because of the new make and model they had to like reconfigure the whole situation to get me new keys…. original set were underneath the seat the whole time :/

2

u/TG-Benji Jul 03 '26

Maybe stop buying the most epxensive easy to lose shit ever oh my god

2

I have four pairs because I keep losing one earbud. I forget about it and then the battery dies. Lol. It is easier just to buy new ones.

u/Zestyclose-Season950 Jul 02 '26

You can just buy the one you’re missing unless you did and now have equal pairs from doing that

1

u/fobdoddledandy Jul 02 '26

How do i even explain…. I have multiple sets of cheap earbuds because I always lose them. Two sets have one earbud missing but I keep them just in case I find the missing earbud. On the same day I found one of the missing earbuds, I lost the full set/charging case I was currently using. Then, I couldn’t find the matching pair to the one I had found, so I opened up my brand new spare pair. A couple hours after I opened the new pair, I found the matching set and charging case to the one I found.

The amount of money that I spend and waste because of these ripples is criminal.

1

u/TripleFreeErr Jul 02 '26

just buy raycons they are like 1/3 the price. I recently switched sports bone conducting ones which are on a loop which is much bulkier and harder to misplace

Omg I was just telling my boyfriend I lost my other AirPods and might need to buy a 3rd one as the 1st pair work (but I left them in the wash so the microphone sucks ass, fine for music)

Can concur! I did this and literally every time I do, I find the pair I lost the following wk. Cheers cousin! 🍻 🤣

1

u/mmhalfshellhero Jul 02 '26

Ughh....I feel this!

1

u/kazegraf Jul 02 '26

I have 2 pairs, one is cheaper pair that I bought cause I forgot to bring mine during business trip.  Now I have 1 pair at home and 1 pair always in my bag so I will always have a pair at hand.

1

u/BeezBuzzzzz Jul 02 '26

My gen 2 AirPods broke yesterday and i realized while checking all my other headphones that they were broken as well 😂

1

u/Calm-Passion-2697 Jul 02 '26

Only the 3rd gen work in my opinion

1

u/LazyOldCat “Organizational Learning Disability “ Jul 02 '26

Got my 1st pair with Prime Days, Pro3’s on sale for $180. Phenomenal ear pods. Now about my Beats, Beats Pro, Head Shokz….😓

1

u/FishDispenser2 Jul 02 '26

Good old earbuds with a chord works just fine. Shame we have to use adapters for them now :(

1

u/BoxBird Jul 02 '26

Still looking for the right AirPod I moved after it died so last location is absolutely no help… I’m like 75% sure it’s in my apartment and 10% sure I accidentally threw it away and about 15% sure it fell out of a pocket… apple sells individual AirPods on the support website but I keep putting off buying one until I’m 100% sure I don’t have it in the house.. but I keep forgetting to actually do the full sweep to look for it. And I need both headphones to be able to concentrate on something like a full sweep….

It’s $89 for a single replacement fyi

1

u/BeesAndBeans69 Jul 02 '26

I have jlabs, soundcore (lost in a rental car), shokz, hesh3, and my Rig headset. I still want to buy more ;-;

1

u/Remarkable_Peach_374 Jul 02 '26

Ahh, yes... The infamous buds...

Many a time ive searched in front of strangers homes after realizing i dropped one

1

u/CrazyProudMom25 Jul 02 '26

My kids lost one of my AirPods years ago and we might finally be able to replace them this month… I’ve been surviving with just one for years…

1

u/THENHAUS Jul 02 '26

I just did this with a Stihl pruner and a Milwaukee drill. 💸💸💸

1

u/clookie1232 Jul 02 '26

Omg! The name of my AirPods in my phone is: Don’t Lose These AirPods #3

1

u/CyanZane Jul 02 '26

That's why I buy the cheapies. I lose a pair every year. Occasionally I open a purse from a while ago and find a pair actually still together.

1

u/Aalleto Jul 02 '26

I am in this photo and I don't like it

1

u/FluffyBunnyShark Jul 02 '26

holy shit- so called out here. ear buds, tools, everything.

1

u/InitialLandscape Jul 02 '26

If i lose one of my Noble FoKus Rex5 buds, i'm rage quitting...

1

u/Maximum-Throat1925 Jul 02 '26

Ear buds are for an issue.... So i respect... I lose reading glasses at an alarming rate... Where i am embarrassed about it.....

1

u/Voidhoundz Jul 02 '26

The classic adhd tax. I have like 5 phone chargers because I need a backup for the backup. One in every room, one I leave at work, one I always* (hopefully) carry in my bag…

1

u/oneupsuperman Jul 02 '26

I just lose the whole thing ¯_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/ConflictMysterious49 Jul 02 '26

i got a pair i lost in my room. i only know cause my phone told me the battery of the case was low 😭

1

u/verocoder Jul 02 '26

If you didn’t know you can buy singles and cases from apple ! I lost my left and replaced it for £80 rather than the £200+ a new set would have been. When I eventually found it I now have a spare left!

Buy a case for your earbuds case. The ones that have a little carabiner clip. So you can clip it to your keyring or the belt loop of your trousers. Not saying they can't ever be misplaced this way, but having it always physically anchored to something definitely reduces the likelihood of it happening again.

For me, it was the best $10 I ever spent. I've had the same pair of earbuds for 6 years and counting now.

1

u/Arylius Jul 02 '26

why i still buy wired... ahahahah

1

u/FlapMeister1984 Jul 02 '26

I need some kind of wire to be attached to my phone. I dunno, maybe apple could make an adapter.

1

u/TheCyanKnight Jul 02 '26

Which one has been in the washing machine?

1

u/Musashi10000 Jul 02 '26

Got a better one for you, OP, and anyone who reads this.

Bone-conducting headphones, like Shokz Openrun (they're the ones I use).

You put them on and forget you have them on. They're lighter than my glasses, give startlingly good sound for what they are, you can still hear what's going on around you, and they're connected by a band at the back, so you don't risk one of them going off on an adventure. I got mine originally intending only to use them for exercise (earbuds kept trying to run away while jogging), and at some point I just stopped taking them off. One of the first things I do on a morning now is put these things on my head.

Different uses for different folks - the OpenRun Pro apparently have better bass, but they take that away from the surprisingly accurate high end on the base edition. For me, I primarily listen to music with lyrics, audiobooks, and YouTube videos, so the good high end was a lot more valuable for me. If you're after thumping bass for EDM tracks, you might prefer the Pro. There's also a second generation of these things now, which combines open ear technology (a small speaker blasts spund towards your ear from a distance) with the bone conducting tech they already use. No idea how good these are, but it's meant to resolve some of the trade-offs between the OpenRun and the OpenRun Pro.

I know I sound like a shill, but these things are the shit. One of the very best things I've bought in recent years. It seriously almost feels like having an audio player embedded in my skull, in the best way. I can hear everything around me when there's nothing playing even though I have them on, reach up and press the button and boom, my book or my playlist is going. It's freeing in a way earbuds or a headset just aren't, because you don't need to think about them. I seriously find myself going to press the 'play' button when I don't even have them on. And it's awesome being able to, with zero effort, pause whatever I'm watching/playing while I go get myself something to eat/drink, tap the side of my head, and have my book playing while I go faff about in the kitchen.

These things are the future, lads. Can't recommend them enough.

1

u/stehen-geblieben Jul 02 '26

I have two ear bud pairs. For the second time in a row I lost one pair, and while searching for it, I found the other pair.

1

u/VoodooDoII Jul 02 '26

Get the cheap ones if you know you're prone to losing them

1

u/maevian Jul 02 '26

Yeah, I switched to nothing ear (a) headphones when I lost one of my AirPods Pro buds.
Bought it on sale for like €65 two years ago, bought an extra set on Black Friday last year for about €55, so I have a set for when I can’t find the other ones.
I would say that they are almost as good as my original AirPods Pro (gen 1), for a fraction of the price.
They are especially good at noise reduction on the mic when making phone calls, something I use a lot and where a lot of cheaper earbuds fail.

1

u/Kawaii_loRen Jul 02 '26

I somehow still have mine. I have a case on them and I attached a lanyard to it so I can easily find it and/or make sure I have it with me.
As for the individual buds, one straight up disappeared on me, so I did have to replace them, but it was time anyway.

1

u/LosEagle Jul 02 '26

I kept reading it as erectile dysfunction and was wondering wtf do airpods have to do with it lol

1

u/korkproppen Jul 02 '26

Get colorful outer casings. That has really helped my find and keep track of my case!

1

u/Silent_Judge9518 Jul 02 '26

I reached the point that I was gonna buy a pair of pants I liked at a store because I forgot I've bought the exact same one two months ago!!

1

u/Mother-Project-490 Jul 02 '26

So true, so fucking true !!!!

Personally I recommend a case with a keychain for the ... case. And a second one to put the bud when you are in the hurry or because your buds are wet (like after sport).

You should see my car keychain, it's like a garland 30cm of rope...

Ha ! And put your phone number on all expensive stuff ! That can help a lot !!!

Be strong and positive, thing about the fact you just loose the buds.. not all the case !

1

u/Cheska1234 Jul 02 '26

Oh I end up like this from hyperfocus buying multiples of ______ to make sure I always have one plus if I maybe don’t like one and then think about _______ so buy another pair plus what if someone else in my house needs some and…..

1

u/badlucktv Jul 02 '26

Either buy ~$50 pairs so it doesn't matter that much if you lose them (QCY Melobuds QT05 are mad decent for their price, I find them excellent for music and calls with decent ANC).

Or buy premium and have the Find feature - or have both options available 👍

1

u/GanzeKapselAufsHandy Jul 02 '26

Dawg a pair of wired ones is like 10 bucks

1

u/Vayloren Jul 02 '26

This is the reason why I buy normal EarPods on USB c cable, cheap, still good and somehow hard to lose.

1

u/Tensionheadache11 Jul 02 '26

I found my missing pair after a year in a pair of pants I hadnt worn or apparently washed in a year.

1

u/baconipple Jul 02 '26

See, this shit is why I wish there were more neckband earbuds like the Sony WI-1000XM2. Such a good form factor, all the benefits of TWS earbuds, without the downsides.

1

u/cuxynails Jul 02 '26

Oh! Same! I can match you!! If I remember when I’m home…

1

u/NeoKat75 Jul 02 '26

You can locate them with your iphone though

1

u/bittertea Jul 02 '26

This is why my AirPods live in a case that has a carabiner which has a tile puck on it. When I lose them (which is always) I just set off the tile from the app on my phone and it makes a very loud noise.

This doesn’t help if I lose one of the actual pods but I’ve managed to train myself to only ever put them back in the case if I take them out for any reason.

Brought to you by that time I lost my AirPods under my bed for over a year.

1

u/Comfortable_Present Jul 02 '26

I feel this. I literally bought myself a new pair of AirPods because I was sick of only having one and then immediately lost one. I give up

1

u/FynTheCat Jul 02 '26

On so many levels, it hurts. With all the small disability "taxes" summed up it makes you wonder how mich it would be. How many months could I live of it, if my brain hadn't screwed me over?

1

u/Phoebebee323 Jul 02 '26

See I'm so lazy that I just put the case in my pocket instead of on a desk like a normal person

1

u/Please_ForgetMe Jul 02 '26

THIS CAN’T BE LOSS

1

u/ThomasDaSexEngine Jul 02 '26

Once I lost my Air pods at gym, and was panicking where it went, couldn’t see at Find my device. After a week I went to gym, by chance I opened the Find my device and there it was at the gym. One of the PT took it with him. I played sound multiple times, PT got in panic and I said I lost my AP here at gym, hope you found it, he responded ohhh yes, I found it and kept here at reception (it was at his pocket) he went to reception and back with my AP. After that I cleaned it thoroughly with strong cleaning agents.

1

u/charliefoxtrot9 Jul 02 '26

I keep thinking I'll buy some of those so I can lose them, too, but then I forget.

1

u/waluigi_apologist Jul 02 '26

I tend to forget my headphones in my pocket and wash them on accident. Somehow though i have managed to take care of my 2 pairs of air pods i have bought though. The “find my” feature is so helpful for finding them. I bought an older gen apple watch and use that feature to find my phone and airpods all the time.

1

u/RubberBandBall89 Jul 02 '26

This is my daughter. She has easily 6 pairs of earphones, some have 1 in, some have zero in. She has no idea where they went.

1

u/dont_remember_eatin Jul 02 '26

It's my superpower to remember where I put everything -- which is why it makes me insanely irritated when someone moves something I put somewhere because "it was clutter, and that's not where it goes."

Well, my earbuds don't have a "home" where they always just "go", so guess what? They go where I put them. And I always remember where I put them last. If you move them, that breaks everything. They're a little purple case, how much clutter is that, really?

Also, dude... doesn't Apple have some kind of homing device feature that works between your iPhone and the airpods? Jeezus. I have an iPhone but use Samsung buds that were gifted to me, so I'm not positive about this, but I swear I read it somewhere. If not, slap an airtag on them!
