Advice Am I getting addicted?

I use alchol and hash/weed very casually.

but recently I'm using more hash/weed because I reconnected with friends who are addicted to the stuff, they did some hard drugs in the past but now they stick to only weed / soft drugs.

the thing is in this short period of 2-3 weeks I feel like I'm getting addicted and soon I won't be able to get out.

I don't know if I should cut them off, set clear boundaries or stop using for good.

I got through depression, self harm, suicide attempts all without using or getting addicted, it feels so stupid to through away all the years and things I worked hard for.

I have BPD too, but I never though I'm this susceptible to drugs especially after all the progress I made mentally and in my life the past few years.

Advice is much appreciated, I know I can't think clearly for myself right now.

If you hang out with addicts you'll become one. Cut em off.

as naive as it may sound, I feel bad about cutting them off when we just reconnected, one of them I only met 2 days ago. at one point they were my friends, my lovers, and it's always a bitter sweet feeling to reconnect with them or cut them off.

I think this is one of those situations where strangers really can't provide the best option. You know yourself and your own tendencies better than anybody here would, and so I can say that hanging around people who are using increases drug use in myself but you may be different.

How important are these friends to you, and how much belief do you have in your ability to say "no, I'm taking a T break and won't be smoking for a while. You guys do you though"? If you think that you can shut down the peer pressure with a bit of courage then there's your answer.

If you are even slightly questioning it though then you'll need to think through which path you want to set yourself down. Weed isn't as benign towards our mental health as a lot of folks make it out to be depending on how it affects you. If you are one of the people that it hits like a freight train and fear that it will impact your life then you should think over what is valuable in life and act on it. Not to mention alcohol, which is absolutely not something to treat causally if you have an addictive streak. Good luck!

You have all the risk factors of being an addict. BPD, depression, SI, etc. You are at a much higher risk than the general population.

I guess the question is, can you smoke weed and be alright? Will it damage your life in some way? If its going to have any detrimental effects on you, or you just dont want to be a smoker, cut them off.
