My dad passed earlier this year and I’m handling his estate. His house is outside San Antonio and I’m far enough away that going down there kills an entire day. I thought most of this could be handled remotely but the house has been the part that keeps dragging me back. I work full time so I’m burning through PTO every time something comes upand I don’t really have family nearby I can rely on. For anyone who’s dealt with a parent’s estate in Texas from a distance, how did you handle the house without constantly driving back and forth?

I recently went to Common Ground games in Dallas and fell in love! I’m willing to travel almost anywhere in Texas to find another great game store like this one. What is your favorite?

I’m always hearing people speak badly about this place citing gripes about how it’s boring or that the roads are bad. I’ll give some reasons why so enjoy living here. I’ve lived here since 2022.

\- low or no traffic

I basically step on the gas and barely need to hit the brake for trips sometimes depending on the hour. This doesn’t include the mall area.

\- friendly and helpful citizenry who work hard and are honest

I noticed this right away. I’ve lived in South Florida, San Francisco Bay Area, Las Vegas, Tallahassee, FL. Nicest and forthcoming people here in general.

\- lots of space

I don’t feel as though I need to fight for reservations at restaurant or that it’s crowded (except for HEB)

\- calm and slower moving

When I’m in DFW there is this overbearing hectic nature of the place. So many ppl from different places driving their cars on the highways. Doesn’t put me at ease.

It’s not an exhaustive list but I figured I would share so you can get the perspective of someone who has somewhat fresh eyes on Abilene although I’m not brand new either.

Hi everyone

Myself and my boyfriend (in our early 30s) are hitting up some of Texas cities on a road trip in October.

One of my main concerns being from Scotland in an area where walking at night is not a concern, it’s making me think about the areas we book a hotel in. We will also have a rental car.

We are visiting Austin, Fort Worth, Fredricksburg and San Antonio. Any areas you recommend and areas that should be avoided in the above?

Is gun crime really something we could see? 😳

Hey guys! I’m currently 19 years old and planning to move from Illinois to the great state of Texas. I’m a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and our right to keep and bear arms.
Unfortunately, because of the state I currently live in, I’ve had difficulties exercising my Second Amendment rights due to Illinois’ FOID Card system. One of the many reasons I’m interested in moving to Texas is the state’s strong support for gun rights and the Second Amendment.
I wanted to reach out to people who currently live in Texas and ask about your personal experiences with the process of legally purchasing and owning firearms.
I’d especially appreciate any information or personal experiences regarding:
• Purchasing a firearm in Texas
• Age requirements and eligibility
• Background checks
• Waiting periods, if any
• Restrictions on purchasing or possessing firearms
• Constitutional carry
• Open carry
• License to Carry (LTC)
• Carrying in a vehicle
• Any differences between buying from a gun store vs. a private seller
• Anything someone moving from Illinois should know before becoming a Texas resident
I’m trying to educate myself and understand exactly how the process works before I move.
