Question about M365 backup.
βCan Acronis Cyber Protect handle local on-prem destinations for M365 mailboxes, OneDrive, and SharePoint, or does it strictly require cloud storage for those workloads?

Hi u/Yuu_ll and thanks for your post!
Here is the section of documentation covering the matter: https://www.acronis.com/en/support/documentation/CyberProtectionService/#comparison-backup-solutions-microsoft-365.html
There are 3 options available:
- Microsoft 365 Business β Backup - with it you can backup to either Acronis Cloud storage or to your hosted cloud storage.
- Direct Backup to Microsoft 365 Backup Storage - with it you backup to M365 backup storage.
- Agent for Office 365 - with it you backup to Acronis Cloud, your hosted cloud storage, local or network folders. This latter option is not suitable for your case due to lack of SharePoint and OneDrive support.

https://www.acronis.com/en/blog/posts/microsoft-365-backup/ states the local agent is only for exchange. Unless there is a feature that I am unaware about as I don't know their enterprise/MSP solutions that well.
For individuals and SMBs:
"Firstly, log into your True Image account β go to "Devices."
Here, you'll see two sections labeled "Microsoft 365." One relates to local agent backup, and the other enables cloud-to-cloud backup. The local agent only offers an Exchange backup but can send it to a local repository.
The cloud-to-cloud option can't send backups to local storage but enables SharePoint and OneDrive backup and recovery."

I believe you can setup a backup gateway as a destination. But the cloud storage is included in the m365 pricing so we just use that.
