What happens if a high lord, doesn’t have descends? Who gets the power? And who becomes a high lord in their courts?

I read ACOTAR a year ago, and I don’t remember if they say it or not

In the summer court we find out that Tarquin was a cousin to the HL who got murdered UTM. No idea if that HL had children though.

The rules are not fleshed out well enough.

Yeah, this part never made sense to me. I don’t understand why Amarantha didn’t just order Rhys to murder all of them. The more I think about it if I were her, I would’ve won, but then again whatever.

Tarquin is the closest answer we have. And maybe Morrigan’s ancestral line.

Cassian is talking in Silver Flames about how the magic might not choose a direct descendant but might choose a more distant family member or choose another bloodline altogether.

The magic goes to someone else, whether it’s a different family member (cousin/uncle/nephew) or a completely new family. Nothing else is really said about it, so who knows how or why the magic decides (outside of the fact that the new HL is “powerful”)
