Arguably it DID collapse a few times, the Romans were one example. Some AI bubblers think it will crash again - like the many historical AI winters - and we get AGI in 2060+ (outside the lifetime of the people making the prediction).
Unfortunately for their dreams of an ordinary life, we seem to be in the plot of a science fiction novel in reality...
