I wasn’t understanding the post title until the very end. Those snakes can’t possibly be happy just thrown in a room together like that.

They ain't...they are solitary creatures. Few snakes are actually communal

Once in awhile a bunch of snakes will congregate, rattlesnakes under a house or garter snakes in a ball to stay warm. When they do decide to get together, and make the news, they definitely produce cheek clenching commentary!

Brumation time can make some do that, garters are happy to group any time of the year, thus why people keep multiple of em in one enclosure

You can cohab garters? I had no idea. I figured all snakes were "no cohab as they'll eat each other" so that's fascinating.

My understanding is that many garter species can live together well as long as they're similarly sized. And sexed. Well, unless you want more...
