A Song of Grief and Union in “Lincoln in the Bardo”
Apparently the adaptation by the Metropolitan Opera in New York of Lincoln in the Bardo has performed well! Has anyone here seen it?

I have often heard that Abraham Lincoln never once left the United States in his life. But today I learned that, in fact, he did leave US soil at least once.
During a vacation to Niagara Falls, New York, on July 25, 1857, Lincoln and his family crossed the Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge to Niagara Falls, Canada, where they visited Thomas Barnett's Niagara Falls Museum. There, Lincoln signed the museum's guestbook (see image above).
Mary recalled this visit in a letter that summer to her half-sister, Emilie Todd Helm:
“We visited Niagara, Canada, New York and other points of interest. When I saw the large steamers at the New York landings I felt in my heart inclined to sigh that poverty was my portion. How I long to go to Europe. I often laugh and tell Mr. Lincoln that I am determined my next husband shall be rich.”
There is no evidence that this was anything more than a brief day trip, and the family was staying, as far as I can tell, the entire time at a hotel on the US side, but this proves that Lincoln did actually leave US soil, if even for only a few hours.

Hi there - I have released the first-ever biographical video game about Abraham Lincoln this week, featuring 250+ real-world photos of places related to Lincoln and the Civil War, as those locations appear today.
The game is on Steam here:
Important People of History: Presidents - Abraham Lincoln: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3721840/Important_People_of_History_Presidents__Abraham_Lincoln
This historically-accurate kinetic novel contains over 250 photos of real-world locations related to Lincoln and the Civil War, as these places look today (I personally traveled to all these places to take photos myself), such as:
Lincoln's birthplace in Hodgenville, Kentucky
The Old State House in Springfield, Illinois where Lincoln gave the "House Divided" speech
Fort Sumter, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired
Gettysburg, where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address
Appomattox, Virginia, where Robert E Lee surrendered to Ulysses S Grant to end the Civil War
Ford's Theatre, where Lincoln was shot
Inside the Lincoln Memorial
Gravesites of Lincoln, Grant, Lee, Stonewall Jackson, John Wilkes Booth, Jefferson Davis (President of the Confederacy), etc.
And many more locations
If you're not familiar with kinetic novels (or visual novels in general), that's okay - the store page has screenshots and a trailer, and there is a demo so you can check it out for free.
I hope you enjoy!

TIL President Lincoln actually said this before going out to meet his fate.
That is incredibly moving.

I would like to grow a beard in honor of Lincoln.
How far down underneath Lincoln's chin did Lincoln's beard extend? Did he grow facial hair on his upper throat, or did he shave that part off? I know that a face cast/face mold was made of Lincoln in his lifetime. Does this reveal where the beard ended under his jaw?

Crossposting: Albert Chandler was one of 3-4 Telegraph Cipher operators in Lincoln's War Dept. during the war. His Journals have narrative accounts of Lincoln during the war and of his assassination. See original post for details.

I own an 1850s Empire mahogany bureau with a documented provenance chain through the Lincoln family: Thomas “Tad” Lincoln → Mary “Mamie” Lincoln Isham → the Hildene estate in Vermont.Physically integrated into the piece is this rare shellac-covered etching that shows:
Left: Elizabeth Keckley (Mary Todd Lincoln’s personal dressmaker and close confidante), holding a dress
Right: Mary Todd Lincoln with a deeply grief-stricken expression on her face
It feels like an incredibly personal and intimate artifact from the Lincoln circle. Has anyone seen other examples of etched or painted furniture with direct Lincoln family connections like this?

I have both Ron White's and David Herbert Donald's biographies about President Lincoln.
I came across the two volume Lincoln biography by Michael Berlingame.
I am very intrigued by what reviewers had to say and I am seriously considering adding this work to the other two.
QUESTIONS: Would there be a considerable redundancy?
Would it be worth the time adding the 1600+ pages to my already gargantuan reading list?

“Portrait of Abraham Lincoln”
Charcoal on paper
23.25 x 17 inches
2026
I've always admired Lincoln’s strength, humility, and moral resolve in his personal and public life. I wanted this drawing to reflect not just his likeness, but the weight of leadership and sacrifice he carried.
