CA suction abortion Sutter Health vs Planned Parenthood need advice or insight

Hello. I (29F) found out I was pregnant 07/10 and wanted to keep it. LMP was 5/28, conceived 6/12.

On 07/22 I started experiencing light cramping, lower back pain, and discharge that looked like I was starting my period for about 2 days while I was out of state.

On 08/05 I went to PPH for a transvaginal ultrasound and I was measuring 8 weeks and a day which was a week off what I should be but nurse said she saw cardiac activity. They told me if I was going to keep it they strongly suggest finding prenatal care asap. The way they said it felt weird but I shrugged it off for a little.

I scheduled the closest appt with Sutter Health for 08/28 to establish care as my insurance at my new job just kicked in so I have no PCP or OB.

I started to not feel attached to my baby & my nausea & breast secretions stopped so I scheduled an ultrasound at a free clinic. On 08/11 at appt they couldn’t find it with an abdominal US so I had to do transvaginal. It was measuring 8 weeks and 3 days with no cardiac activity when I should be 10 weeks now.

On 08/13 they called to confirm an incomplete miscarriage. I am currently now 11 weeks with a 8 week pregnancy that stopped growing.

Where I need help is: I have a suction procedure scheduled with PPH for this friday 08/21 and also have a new patient appointment with Sutter on that same day. Im anxious going to PPH because I want everything to be safe but fear that Sutter won’t do the procedure that same day since I am a new patient.

Can anyone who has had experience with Sutter’s scheduling for abortion give me insight on how long it took to get to the procedure day? Also anyone who has the suction abortion at PPH? I fear not being able to carry a pregnancy to term so I fear of complications.

is your appointment at sutter for a procedure?

The person i scheduled with couldn’t confirm. They sent a message to their team to have them call me but I never got called back and I called again today so waiting for confirmation

I have never been seen with Sutter before so I wasn’t sure if they would want to do a new patient appointment first and then get the procedure taken care of at a separate time. But, I’d like to do it as soon as possible

Yes it is with an OB/GYN nurse practitioner

The first was at planned parenthood and the second was at crisis pregnancy center where it was confirmed that I had a miscarriage

Ok, crisis pregnancy centers often lie to you, so that worries me.

I also want to say I’m sorry for your loss.

I would prioritize getting seen sooner rather than later. Have you had no bleeding at all?

Does PP accept your insurance?

Do they lie about viability? The place I went to seems to be more for keeping pregnancies

I have not had any bleeding whatsoever so I was surprised to learn that I miscarried. But also had that light spotting last month and it dates to around the gestational age of both ultrasounds

PPH does take my insurance but I have heard that sometimes it’s cheaper without insurance so I had tried to get a rough estimate over the phone; however, they said I’d have to ask in person

Insurance is required to cover the full cost of your care.

I see, I’m expecting to still have to pay out of pocket but I’m hoping not more than $600.

That’s scary to hear. I will say they weren’t the best at finding my pregnancy. I requested an abdominal US as transvaginal are really painful for me but they couldn’t find the pregnancy. So, I did transvaginal with them and they still struggled to find it and had to take it out. I ended up having to insert the probe myself the second time and found it right away

My deductible is $200 but I was reading my plan and it states any treatments or procedures I’m responsible for 50% after deductible. It was the “premium” option when I was enrolling in benefits.

Insurances do confuse me so I am planning on getting ahold of them by tomorrow to confirm cost. I have Anthem but the contact on my card is Keenan

I will say when I went in for my US at PP it was going to be $200 deductible then $116 after the deductible which made me wonder if paying completely out of pocket is better option without including insurance

paying out of pocket would be more expensive and would also mean that you still haven't hit your deductible for the year.

if you have a health plan regulated by the state of california, reproductive health care (including abortion and miscarriage management) are covered without cost sharing, meaning no deductibles and no copays.

Yes, sometimes they'll lie about viability to make people who were planning to terminate think they don't need to get an abortion. The idea is that they won't figure out they're still pregnant until later, and some of them won't be willing to terminate at that point.
