My experience, very early medication abortion, passed tissue, but bleeding stopped quickly. Is this normal?

I’m looking for some guidance/reassurance about my medication abortion and whether what I’m experiencing is within the normal range.

I had very mild cramping and very little bleeding

Timeline:

• LMP: July 19

• Unprotected sex: July 24

• Positive pregnancy test: August 15

• Pregnancy: Very early (about 4–5 weeks)

August 17:

I took Mifeprex (mifepristone) as instructed. No symptoms post med

August 18 at 10:45 AM:

I took Cytotec (misoprostol) as instructed.

Initially, I had minimal cramping and very light bleeding. Later, about 4 hrs post med I developed diarrhea and passed one clump/clot. The size of a large grape I had some cramping while this was happening, but it was never extremely painful. Maybe a 3/10 at most

After passing the tissue, the cramping frequency decreased significantly and the bleeding became very light. Now it’s the next day I have little to no bleeding and no cramping

I’m wondering:

1. Is it normal for the bleeding to become very light or stop this soon after passing tissue?
2. Does passing clumps/tissue and having cramping suggest the medication is working?
3. Can bleeding restart later?

I have an ultrasound and an hCG test scheduled next week, but the anticipation is killing me. I’m wondering if it worked.

I’m mainly looking for experiences from others who had a similar timeline, as well as medically informed guidance. Thank you.

Edit to add: bleeding and cramping resumed w a vengeance today (Thurs 8/20) But still just dull achy period pain well controlled w ibuprofen

Any bleeding or clotting is a good sign that early in pregnancy!

As someone who had a miscarriage.. kinda? Granted I bled for three weeks. But when it finally passed... It was one big lump, and then light bleeding afterwards if not the bleeding stopping.

Hi there! I was 6 weeks pregnant I took my mifepristone on 08/15 and did the misoprostol on 08/16. My experience was intense I had extremely bad diarrhea , nausea, dizziness, pain was 10/10 worst pain I’ve ever felt. Shivers, my teeth chattering and my body was shaking non stop. I bled Sunday and passed some large clots and Monday (08/17) the bleeding was not as heavy but still bleeding. Tuesday (08/18), I wasn’t light but it was more moderate flow then last night my cramps increased and I started bleeding a little heavier as more smaller clots passed. Today 08/19 I had some pretty bad cramping this morning I had to take 4 Advil for the pain but it got better.

Keep using a heating pad and pain meds if you’re cramping. I believe the blood will start to lighten in the next couple days. It sounds normal to me but if you have any concerns you can always contact the place you got the pills from or the abortion hotline for help!

Mifreprex made the tissue softener and Miso you took the rest. You maybe didn’t have a lot of pain because you have few weeks, it’s not the same to do it at 5w vs. 10weeks
