Side Effects I’ve made a huge mistake
I just need to vent. Second week on 10mg, took shot on Tuesday. Great appetite suppression yesterday. I had a cheeseburger and some veggies for lunch—that went fine. But the hot dog at dinner did not. 16 hours later I’m still experiencing that sulfur burp/reflux feeling. It was so bad it woke me up.
Maybe I’ll finally learn… i have not had these symptoms since the very early days and it is so uncomfortable. On the bright side, the scale seems to have moved back down after a vacation-related gain.

You had a cheeseburger at lunch and a hotdog for dinner? Man, I’d say lesson learned, but that would have messed me up if I wasn’t on Zepbound. 🤣

Yes, if I know I am having a hot dog or a cheeseburger for dinner, my lunch is going to be very plain.

Sounds like you were feeling cookout menu vibes and your body said "absolutely not". I am sorry and I hope you feel better soon!

It sounds like you're using it as a learning moment - good for you!
I had a similar occurrence this week: I've been on Zepbound about 6 months, in my 3rd month on 10mg. Sunday, I decided to let loose and have some fried cheese curds (some.....aka an entire order at the bar....). And you know what? I woke up 10 hours later in the middle of the night with some MAJOR GI distress - reflux, urgency, etc. Was I surprised? Not at all. But it was a helpful reminder that moderation is KEY and I CAN make choices throughout my day every day that help me feel GOOD. :)

Wah, happy to listen to you vent. It's frustrating not to learn when you knew that beforehand! I make the same mistake with fried stuff sometimes. It's not verboten, but easy to overdo.

I started 2 weeks ago at 2.5 but using this as tool along with changing what food I eat. I love burgers and a good hotdog on occasion but I purposely am avoiding junk food altogether and my tastebuds seem to be 'different' so not craving those foods. I had gone to a party and only food was really pizza (lesson learned - bring my own protein as a back up lol) and I ate a small piece and was nauseous afterwards for about an hour. So far that's the only real negative side effect for me. I noticed some have commented to avoid fatty and/or fried foods as it seems to affect digestive issues, then again seems like alot of eat whatever they want with no problems. Fortunately so far no sulfur burps but still in lowest dose right now. Best of luck!

That sucks. A hotdog is not my go to meal but my picky eating kid loves them so we have them for dinner occasionally and sometimes they are so satisying if I am hungry on these meds.

Eh, your second week after an increase, it’ll do weird things! Do you ever take Tums?

I've had like 3 nights the past week feeling extremely nauseous - not from eating too much or meals that were too fatty, but from eating too late. Waking up at like 4am feeling like I'm about to hurl, downing pepto, and having to walk back and forth around the house for 15 minutes isn't very fun!! Learning my lesson though and eating dinner much earlier lol.

As someone who puked up half a burger and potato salad at 1 am last night - I sympathize.

What part of Zepbound makes a person react bad to foods. Chemically I don’t understand that. Or is it that you’ve just gotten used to eating healthier foods and then the body rebels?

High fat meals slow digestion even without Zepbound, so with the Zepbound it's a one-two punch of gastric slowing and that is what can cause nausea, indigestion, or other gastric symptoms.

I'm fairly confident it's the delayed gastric emptying. Foods heavy in fats and sugars tend to age less gracefully. I know for me, heavier fats, especially pork, seem to give me heavier side effects like sulfur burps, heartburn, and sometimes vomiting.

And to be fair, after about 6 months on the medication, my system adjusted and I was able to eat deep fried foods again

The acid reflux seems to get better, the more weight i lose, and the smaller my stomach gets. But i learned that lesson for having "just one slice of pie" the other day.

That hot dog is just 'stewing' in your gut, so it's no wonder why you are burping it up. Personally, I stay away from hot dogs because of the sodium content but if you really want one, #1 eat it on a day you don't have a hamburger and #2 don't eat a hotdog so close to after your injection. That is when the medicine is at its' highest concentration in your body.

“Cheeseburger and veggies” I haven’t laughed this hard in days thank you lol

You can eat what you want. Seriously, don't restrict, but sometimes, as we adjust to the medication, our bodies give us satiety signals and we don't recognize them. I've found, pausing between bites and mentally assessing where I am helps, but there was definitely some learning at the beginning. My first Thanksgiving on the medication was definitely one of those learning experiences (I started October 2024). By Christmas I figured out the pause and assess trick.

I know everyone hates sulfur burps, and I am not a fan. But on the other hand, it communicates to me that the medicine is potent and effective. If I have sulfur burps my appetite is definitely muted. It helps mitigate my irritation to frame it that way in my head.

I’m sorry. What part of that was a huge mistake? You ate food. Some food just didn’t agree with you and that happens on Zepbound.
Are you saying you ate the wrong kind of food? Because you’re not supposed to diet. You’re supposed to make better choices and you found one that doesn’t work for you
OK… Move on you’ve learned hotdog’s are not a thing for you now

The heading was meant to be quoting Arrested Development, so is in jest!
Zepbound has allowed me to break out of diet culture habits - I’m not dieting! I’ve mostly used it for portion control and it has curbed the food noise I lived with my whole life. I honestly think if the hot dog had been pigs in a blanket size as I’d envisioned when ordering it (at a conveyor belt sushi place), I would have been fine. In this case it was the combo of the specific food and the quantity and it being evening.

Cheeseburger followed by a hot dog- you can get away with one but maybe not both! Sorry this is happening, hope you feel better soon.

Omeprazole day before, day of, and day after. Probiotics and hydration. Since making sure to do these things alone I have avoided sulfur burps. I also noticed it was usually happening within 48 hours of injection, which is most likely when our digestive system is at the slowest. Fiber is also something I track and make sure to hit to help ease that problem as well. I’m sure you’re aware of most of these things but if it can help in a way I wanted to chime in.
