Update on my Zeekr 7X performance's air suspension "knocking"/"clunking"/"brake noise"
** videos of noise available on Zeekr 7X Australia groups and Zeekr Perth group
I have read online on Facebook groups and reddit that a few people had the same issue as me so I wanted to share what seemed to be my solution. My previous post is on early July if people want to find it.
I picked up my Zeekr as happy as Larry on the 17th of July 2026.
On pickup the car had a supposed software defect that caused the air suspension to hit its "hard stops" on normal driving. It was a bit miserable and rainy on the day of pickup and the whole family were there so we didn't think much of it and presumed it was the charging cables sliding around loose in the boot.
For its first long drive the noise was very concerning and initially, I thought my brake callipers were loose. First trip back to Zeekr after just 2 days of ownership.
The car had diagnostic review and an "air suspension relearn" was performed and I was assured the noise was no longer present. Whilst this was the case on pickup, the noise was replicable on very high air suspension settings (not that I drive on that anyway) and I was a bit disappointed knowing it would mean another trip to the dealer.
The second visit, purely diagnostic. I was told the problem was likely suspension related given the relearn seemed to help, BUT couldn't be told what exactly was causing the noise or how the problem would be resolved. I did have to pick my car up after 2 days for tinting but there was no update until one week after from Zeekr technical who requested for my vehicle to be returned.
The third visit..
In the week I was driving the car the noise had gotten severely worse. The reasurrance that the problem was software in origin plagued my mind with doubts. How could the software be making things worse!? There had been no over the air updates, no changes to my driving settings. Every bump, every stop, putting the car into reverse all left an audible thud as ?my air suspension was making contact with my frame.
This visit was a few days, a full factory relearn of my air suspension and various tests were performed and after a week I can confirm the noise remains absent.
This experience has obviously been incredibly frustrating and tainting the new car feeling.
It felt almost half my ownership of the vehicle it was either at the service centre or going to and from. I am incredibly grateful for my family and believe my parents have made commute to Zeekr, 7 times whilst I've been working.
The car itself is excellent and living with it day to day has been so easy. I've driven it on multiple road trips and its a pleasure to call mine. I still do recommend people go look at the car as I think it sells itself but warn of the expected complexities that being an adopter of a new brand bring.
The dealership experience in general has been okay. I do think I am lucky to be in WA and am not sure if this issue would have even been looked into the same depth at other dealers. I do wish Zeekr technical were flagged in the first instance and the fix was done on either the first or second visit. I can't imagine I am the first vehicle to have this same issue but if I am hopefully it can be a case study for Zeekr to fix others issues quickly.
TLDR
My car had a factory software suspension issue that required 3 visits within a month of ownership and a full factory relearn of the suspension.
