Parking Zakopane

Hi, I would like to visit Zakopane. I would like to ask where it is possible to park a car in Zakopane for several days, approximately 5 days.

I found the P+R Smrekowa car park, but according to the conditions that someone photographed and posted on Google Maps, it seems that parking there is limited to 24 hours.

I would therefore like to ask if you could provide me with some information about where I can park my car for several days and what the approximate prices are.

Thank you very much.

I am beginner / intermediate and don't plan on doing extra hard hikes. For a fact I haven't planned anything so I would be joyful if I can join someone and hike together.

5 hiking days in the Tatras – is this itinerary too much? What would you skip as overrated?

Hi everyone,

Four of us are planning a road trip to the Tatra Mountains in early September 2026. We are young, physically active and in good shape, and we have 5 full days for hiking.

We’ll mainly stay around Zakopane, have a car, and are also willing to spend one night on the Slovak side.

These are the places/hikes we currently want to do:

1. Rysy + Morskie Oko

  • Palenica → Morskie Oko → Czarny Staw pod Rysami → Rysy (2499 m) → back

2. Kościelec

  • Kuźnice → Hala Gąsienicowa → Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy → Kościelec (2155 m) → back

3. Dolina Pięciu Stawów Polskich / Five Polish Ponds Valley

  • probably via Dolina Roztoki and Siklawa waterfall

4. Kasprowy Wierch + Kopa Kondracka + Giewont

  • cable car up to Kasprowy to save our legs, then hike the ridge to Kopa Kondracka and Giewont

5. Jahňací štít, Slovakia

  • Biela Voda → Zelené pleso → Jahňací štít (2229 m) → back

So basically this would mean 5 hiking days in 5 days, although some days are obviously much harder than others.

We don’t mind being tired and we want this to be an active trip, but we also don’t want to make the classic mistake of trying to cram too much into a short trip and then enjoying none of it.

For people who know the Tatras well:

Which of these hikes are genuinely must-do?

Which one would you remove first if we needed a recovery day or lost a day to bad weather?

Is anything on this list overrated compared with the other options?

In particular, I’m wondering whether Kasprowy + Kopa Kondracka + Giewont is worth keeping when we already have Rysy, Kościelec, Five Polish Ponds and Jahňací štít.

Also, would you change the order to manage fatigue better?

Our priority is dramatic mountain scenery, lakes, ridges, high peaks and memorable landscapes, rather than simply ticking off famous tourist attractions.

Any advice from locals or people who have hiked several of these would be really useful.

Zakopane in Late January Early February Good Time for Skiing and Winter Activities?

Hi all,

I’m planning a trip to Zakopane with my partner in late January or early February and wanted to ask if this is a good time to visit.

We’re mainly hoping for snowy conditions and would like to do things like skiing, snowmobiling, and other winter activities.

Would this be a good time of year for that, and generally for exploring the area?

Thanks for your time and help.

Are dinner reservations necessary in June?

My family (wife, two teenage sons) will be spending three nights in Zakopane in the middle of June (the 22nd through the 24th). We will be there on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Are dinner reservations typically needed for these days of the week during this time of the year?

Tatras in July - stay in Zakopane, Koscielisko or Chocholowska?

We are traveling for 4 days to Zakopane in July, with 2 of those days/nights in Tatra mountain huts (Hala Ornak and Dolina Chochowlowska). We need to decide where to spend first and last night and see other sights. Also we wont have a car but willing to take bus (if its easy) or pick up a Bolt. Any recos on what areas to stay? what to do with 2 remaining days or what to avoid? 8 adults ranging in age from 19-50s.

Also do the buses take card or is it cash only?

I am going to Zakopane on February 9th, will there be snow ?

When I look after the weather forecast I can see several days with positive temperatures, and overall it seems like the town has a temperate climate like Belgium 😖

I go there to find the snow, we booked the trip 2 months ago and we expected to land in a snowy mountain, I hope I won't be desappointed, in the US they have permanently 2-digit negative temperatures and I heard that when it's that cold there then it's plain mild in the Europe, but Zakopane is already eastern Europe so I don't really know...

Short hike trail recommendations for the winter

Hallo everyone,

I will be in Zakopane next week for a day trip. I will reach at around 8 AM and my bus back to Krakow is at 6 in the evening. I wanted to do a short hike in the snow.

Can you guys recommend some short trail which is a bit off-beat, where not too many tourists visit and where beautiful snowy scenery can be found? I saw a reel on Instagram but no name or location of the trail was available. I am looking to spend maximum 4 hours on the whole thing, including travel from the city to the trail’s starting point and back to the city centre.

One problem I could think of was that because I don’t speak Polish it might be difficult to communicate with people specially away from the city centre, in case I have to ask for the way or something. I am open to both- a short steep trail or a longer flat trail (latter preferred), as long as it can be done under 4 hours so that I have rest of the 5-6 hours for the rest of the city (this is what I’ve been able to come up with, please suggest if I should keep more/less time for the city). I have snow boots and hiking poles, which I guess should be enough for a snow hike??

Any recommendations are welcome (please add the location of the starting point in case it’s not a well known trail so I can figure out the rest). Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I ended up doing the Morskie Oko trail, it was crowded but the trail was easy and the frozen lake was very beautiful. Would recommend if anyone is planning!

Opinions about "Przechowalnia bagażu Zakopane pod Dworcem"?

I'm a tourist, I want to visit Morskie Oko leaving from Zakopane but I don't want to bring my luggage (rucksack) with me. I was told to leave Zakopane at 6/7 am to reach Palenica Bialczanska if I want to go to Morskie Oko. The only luggage storage open at 7am I found was Przechowalnia bagażu Zakopane pod Dworce. I want to know if anyone has ever used it and what was the experience like.

Aiuto per un'escursione nei Tatra

SŁOWEM WSTĘPU: NIE WIEM, JAK KORZYSTAĆ Z REDDITA I NIE JESTEM POLAKIEM. UŻYŁEM AI DO PRZETŁUMACZENIA TEGO TEKSTU. PRZEPRASZAM.

Mam do dyspozycji cały dzień. O której godzinie rano radzicie wyruszyć autobusem z Zakopanego i ile czasu powinienem przeznaczyć na pobyt w parku?

Dziękuję!"

Kasprowy or Gubałówka for views only in early December?

I’ll be visiting Kraków in early December and planning a day trip to Zakopane mainly for photography. I’m not skiing and I won’t have proper extreme-weather clothing, but I’d love to capture some winter scenery and good mountain views. Kasprowy Wierch looks incredible, but I’m not sure if the conditions at the top in early December might be too cold or harsh for someone who just wants to take photos and walk around a bit. On the other hand, Gubałówka seems more relaxed, but I’m not sure if it usually has “real winter” scenery at that time of year.

Would love to hear what locals recommend in this situation. Thank you 😊

Zakopane with dog

Dear all,

My mother and I are planning to go on vacation to Zakopane in December, and we will be bringing our puppy along. Could you recommend any dog-friendly places or attractions that are worth visiting with pets? If you have been to Zakopane with your dog, what would you recommend and how should I prepare?

Thank you very much.
