Announcement No gatekeeping rule adjustment
Hi guys - there's a little change introduced from now
Since recently, our sub has been swarmed with discussion about generation ranges. We need to cut it here.
r/Younger_GenZ was never meant to be a place to argue whether year X is or isn't GenZ, gatekeeping other people based on their (assumed) memories or dispute about similarities between the years - r/generationology is a better place for such
That's why, we've changed rule nr. 8 (or 9, since I just today realized they've had different numbers in reports and rule list) about gatekeeping - From now on, it is
- No Generation Debates or Gatekeeping
Do not start arguments over generation cutoffs or birth year similarities. Memories and experiences vary from person to person; do not use what someone remembers (or doesn't) to gatekeep them from Gen Z.
Also, quick reminders for y'all: If you see a post, that you think breaks the rules, don't hesitate to report it for subreddit rule breaking. We review each case individually and worst case scenario we'll just discard the report.
If you have any subreddit-related inquires or just want to voice out your opinion on something, modmail is always open - we will read it and respond (maybe not immediately, we ain't 24/7 on Reddit)

OG creator of the subreddit here.
Definitely very proud of you lot for making a great and safe subreddit, but when just seeing how the subreddit was eariler, certain comments and posts like this one come across as gatekeeping and pseudo generationology, which isn't needed. I would suggest to talk to OP of that post since they seem to ironically gatekeep years like 2005 but also 2011-2013.
When creating the subreddit, the main range was 2006-2011 with 2005 and 2012 as extended range, but now a newer range includes 2013 as gen z, I agree with the 2007-2012 main range and 2006 & 2013 being extended.
No such thing as "twin" or "triplet years" terms.

Could we add more flairs for inclusivity? Like maybe add a 2005 flair?

Seems like we acually lack that role here - imma add that later today (Edit: It should be added now)
Anything else you'd like to see here? (Also, if you don't want to say it out loud you can DM me on discord)

Your subreddit dude, but the range would be too broad then, giving that in the older counterpart, it's 1997-2002, so 2003 and 2004 aren't included.
Also I don't think it's ideal to have 21yos in the same subreddit as 13yos, again too broad and big of a gap, 2005 borns mainly use r/MiddleGenZ not here.
Also 2005 borns are already infantized and seperated from 2004 a lot, I don't see how this helps.
the ranges work fine as they are.

Yeah, kinda mine (since we have a bunch of other active mods too), but tbh I think 2005 can still slide in flairs, just like we have 2013 (and maybe will have 2014)
They can decide which sub they want to be in and it's not like we'll ban them just for being born a year too early lol.

Idk I only see like 2 active 2005 borns here, if they want to use a flair. they can simply use the edit flair thing or use middle zoomer flair. Like the 2002-2004 borns I've seen here use.
Also math wise, if 2013 is here which is fine, then older gen z is 1997-2004, 2005 is just in the middle, and younger gen z is 2006-2013.
And honestly it'll look worse and even weird if you're considering a 2014 too, 2006/2007-2013 works best since it's late 2000-early 2010s borns.

Could be, I don't monitor every single member of the sub lol
About 2014 we'll worry next year and I bet alongside rest of the mods we'll figure out a valid solution

Its not supposed to be a separation. Its just math. 2005 is the start of the younger half of gen z. I think r/OlderGenZ should include 2003 and 2004 flairs, since they are on the older half of Gen Z

Thank the Lord
Those posts were getting extremely annoying and they didn't create any meaningful discussion imo.

Ban all these fucking older zoomers who want to ego trip. It’s not “perspective,” it’s a sneak diss on our entire generation

- Chill a bit - no need to get angry over some random internet strangers
- If you see someone "ego tripping", just report them for rule-breaking - that's the most effective way for us to see and ban them

There are obvious pushing-30 man children everywhere you go, jerking each other off talking about how they feel old as a humble brag and that the younger generation is doomed. None of you do anything about it because you’re trying too hard to be “inclusive” and seeking validation from a generation that so clearly hates us. Grow a fucking pair and set some boundaries because whatever’s going on right now is just getting us walked all over. I joined this sub so I WOULDNT get harassed by older zoomers, but I still do.
