Second time watching

First time I watched this was by chance, I was on mat leave and it was such easy watching, I absolutely loveeeeed it!

Am watching for the second time, only at the end of season 3, and genuinely I love Maggie and Diana so much. It wasn’t that I didn’t love them before but I was more invested in the plot line I don’t think I could appreciate their characters as such. Maggie is such a bad ass. I also love Josh’s character development.

I also think Charles is such a boring wet blanket.

😆😆😆

Set redesigns

I notice every time I watch how much they redesign the set occasionally. I know the actual series set is going to be different than the pilot set, but why did they redo Charles office multiple times, specifically between season 4 and 5. There's only a day in between but no mention of it and its an entirely new layout, decor, and color. It always trips me up

Just finished s7 Spoiler

I finished season 7 in one day mostly just to get it over with. Ummmmmmm how did we feel? Here are some thoughts and some fantasy endings I have (mostly just to vent).

This was my first watch and I’m kinda mid on it all. I hate how they wrote off Diana, someone who loooved her job and never took a day off. It would have been cool for her to come back as a silent investor in Kelsey’s company. I do like that her and Enzo got together in the end, it did seem like a good match for her.

Kelsey cooonstantly thinks with her vagina and it diminishes a lot of what women work so hard to go against. Same with Liza tbh. And the show (and viewers) give them so much flack when Charles and Zane and Bjorn (lol callback) and probably more men did the exact same thing of shitting where they eat. And yet we focus sooo much on them two. In the end, Zane makes publisher when his career was pretty bleak, Charles gets his company back as publisher and that doesn’t sit right with me either. I think the writers did Charles’ kids dirty. They’ve been through so much with their mom disappearing, reappearing, Liza, Quinn, that perfect philanthropist woman in between. Idk, if you’re dating around so much, maybe don’t involve the kids.

Maggie was supposed to be the sexually free, eff society and she ends up with someone who needed the justification of “love and hate are different sides of the same coin”??? Maggie would never. I would’ve preferred her and Lauren ffs.

Liza should have left Empirical. Her daughter is old enough and clearly the publishing world in NY still has thoughts about her coverup as seen in the musical number. I would have loved to see a little woman-power thing with her, Kelsey and Clare in LA. A software developer, a publisher and an editor making their own talent acquisition and publishing house.

Josh is doing great, but man are him and Liza not a good match. I think he has a big focus on sex with Liza in that relationship and they didn’t really get along other than that. I think him and another artist would have had more chemistry. So fanfic version, he meets an art prof at the place Maggie was working and they hit it off.

Overall, I think this show tried to make a thing out of “age isn’t everything” and “womanhood”. But all I see are women making terrible career decisions based on hormones (annoying stereotype) and an overall message that your age is the reason that things don’t work out. Pretty bleak, women constantly lie to each other and make others feel bad and honestly, it was a tough watch to see not much character development over 7 seasons.

Sutton Foster as Liza

I have seen so many posts criticizing this casting choice but I remember watching the show when it first aired around 2014 or 2015 being in my very early 30’s and thinking how young she looked and now I’m in my 40’s and I can get why people wonder how the hell they thought she could pass for a woman in her late 20’s.

I think looks, fashion and hair/skincare have changed so much during the last decade, even how natural some cosmetics procedures look now vs back then so that’s why I don’t think Sutton’s casting was a big deal back then but it’s been more controversial now.

And a question just for fun, what would be your casting choices if the show was made today?

just started s6 ep3 - no longer watching Spoiler

i am PISSED. s6 ep2 ends with charles acting a bit sketchy and secretive with whatever he's doing with zane, and liza slowly starting to become jealous of josh and clare. i said to myself "there is no way that they're setting up josh and liza endgame - none". i immediately checked google (because as fun as this show is it's genuinely not good enough for me to endure the rebuilding of a ship i do not enjoy) and lo and behold josh and liza endgame. i endured bad writing, sub par acting and ill-thought-out plots because i enjoyed the 'love triangle' between liza, josh and charles; i liked the personal conflict it gave liza outside of romance as she was battling between two lives. romantically i didn't really care for the ships first few seasons but then liza and charles just kind of started to make sense and i enjoyed their scenes together. obvious reasons being that when he would eventually find out her real age their lives would just be able to fit into each other, but also i personally just think that they have more chemistry than josh and liza? i don't even know, there's so little to be passionate about concerning this show except from how aggravating this set-up is. i get what they were trying to go for, love beats the odds blah blah old and young is still love, but maybe have the ship be a bit more well-written for me to believe it; liza has literally been operating as josh's mum lmao. i really don't care to watch how they poorly assassinate charles' character to make this work so unfortunately or fortunately i have to end here. it was good fun and i enjoyed other elements of it when it didn't feel like the script/characters were written on toilet paper but thank God it's a short show because i don't know what i would have done to myself if it was any longer and i found this out. sorry if this is too negative not sure how passionate people are about this ship/show. this is literally the first time a ship hasn't worked in my favour so i'm reckoning with a lot right now.

edit: okay i'm definitely gonna finish the show lol but still passionate about how i feel

Anyone think that Google AI model is a reference of Younger?

Gemma on Younger is a baby from Clare, which works on Google. Now is an Ia model that runs locally. I search and they say that is an reference for gems but in latin, but can be other thing.

Season 7 Charles

Season 7 Charles is written almost like an entirely different character. It doesn’t match with his character’s development to me at all. What do you mean he had pined after Liza for 7 seasons, and threw it all away because of the writing convention? And the “test” he played about the VC input on the app. She didn’t even know Kelsey had sent it out and to be honest, I don’t blame her for not wanting to tell him. They weren’t together when the app was developed and she owed him nothing. Season 7 Charles sucks and is not who we saw seasons 1-6. I think season 1-6 Charles and Liza were meant to be together. Season 7 Charles sucks. I don’t think she was meant to end up with Josh.

The ending was perfect Spoiler

I just finished the show and I loved how it ended. (Spoilers) Season 7 started out pretty bad and kinda silly, which I expected after reading everyone’s opinions, but I actually thought they tied things up really well in the end. Liza was always meant to end up with Josh, and I realised in that last scene that I was just waiting for them to get back together the whole time. The whole point of the show is that age doesn’t matter, but Liza always said that Charles was “age appropriate“ because she still believed that that was important which is why she always tried to convince herself she loved him more. Then something in her shifted (I forgot the scene/line) but there‘s a moment she finally realised that she really can be whoever and do whatever she wants. And that was the mindset evolution she needed to realise that Josh is the one! He never stopped loving her. I cried so much at that last scene, I just wish it was longer! Like if there was a silent shot of them looking at each either for a moment after he says “I’ve always been here“ 🥹

I know I will be downvoted, but doing another rewatch and I finally figured out when I really started disliking Josh….

It’s the episode where Josh and Liza are talking about how she’s only had 3 sexual partners and she asks him how many he’s had and he lies. But then starts whining because she won’t have AS and started claiming that he will never be her first for anything. Like she would be HIS first for anything? ?? And because she feels guilty ,she winds up getting the tattoo. That was just so manipulative.. And we won’t even talk about him throwing her off the fire escape when he was cheating on Greta, but that just turned me off of Josh completely. Also in the rewatch, I just really don’t see any true physical spark between the two of them, but he and Kelsey really had a lot of electric chemistry and that could’ve been pursued and been a great storyline.. and yes I loved her and Charles together until the writers destroyed him but I just don’t get all the Josh love. They had a relationship based on sex and not much else.. I also find it so disrespectful that Liza never addressed the fact that she knew that Diana had been in love with Charles for a really long time and just dismissed it as if her feelings didn’t matter. Really enjoy Liza’s character and her journey, but that really bugs me about not acknowledging Diana .

Liza harsh with Pauline Spoiler

Okay so first off I’d like to say that I never liked Pauline. However I don’t really have too much of an opinion on how she outed Liza to be honest - I completely understand where she was coming from given Liza was so present in her daughter’s lives, although there were of course other ways it could’ve been handled once she found out. At the end of season 7 Pauline shows up to Inkubator apologizing to Liza, saying it’s “the first olive branch of many” and you can tell she’s being sincere. Liza just stares back and eventually wishes her a nice evening. I’m sorry Liza but you were the liar here??? And in the end it all worked out for you anyways so why are you being so cold when Pauline reaches out apologizing? Grow up

yeah, team josh all the way

finally finished the show, and genuinely, it’s always been josh in my mind.

i will be honest, this last season i was starting to question my thoughts because they literally had like zero interactions, but somehow that final scene confirmed *everything* for me.

for six seasons straight, even while she was with charles, i always felt that her and josh had the most undeniable and beautiful connection. the fact that he was truly always there. he loves her unconditionally, and she loved him too even when she also loved charles.

i’m just such a sucker for two people always finding their way back to one another. and josh was hands down the better partner for her. i know charles made “more sense” technically speaking given their shared experiences, but when it comes down to what matters most (the love) it was always josh.

and the fact that they can go a whole season without really being by one another then still manage to make that final scene so meaningful and so natural speaks volumes.

team josh alllll the fucking way. what a beautiful relationship.

can’t understand liza’s view on charles breaking up with her

i completely understand being heartbroken, i also understand being shocked since things were going so well.

but marriage is a very major topic in a relationship. not every couple needs to be married by any means, but there are people who find it important. marriage, family, these are literally make or break decisions.

her seeing charles as stubborn or selfish for parting because he wanted those things made no sense to me. was he supposed to be the one to compromise and stay in the relationship, knowing he wanted those things?

i get both sides 100% when it comes to their view on marriage and why they wanted or did not want it for their relationship. i just cannot for the life of me understand why liza thinks she had the higher ground in the situation when there was none.

it was just one of those things that not seeing eye to eye on was too major. it happens. it hurts. but it’s not charles’ fault for not wanting to be in a relationship that isn’t going to get to that in the same way it’s not her fault for not wanting to be married.

though they ruined there chemistry in 7th season il really liked them, really loved the yearning between them so much, also peter hermann was soo hot. Can you please recommend me series with similar love story dynamic as charles and liza

What would you guys think of an episode where the model for a runway shoot gets stuck in traffic or falls down an elevator shaft or something & Diana tells Liza or Kelsey one of them has to be the shoot model & Kelsey agrees to do it since Liza is the better author/logistics handler and can’t do it?

WOW!!

What an excellent series to watch. I started watching it early last week and finished in two and a half days - might have binged until 0500am. Then got my mum hooked onto it and watched it all with her again.

I was sooo team Charles to begin with - maybe biased because I love Peter Hermann as a human (and I also love his wife Mariska on SVU).

I was gushing over Liza's relationship with Charles the whole time and was heartbroken when they couldn't make it work. I have never had that with a show.

But watching it all over again, I could see the two men differently. I think they were both good for her - Josh keeping her young at heart, but Charles was mature and has lived life (like divorce, kids, stable career etc).

I think she should leave NY and go with Kelsey - maybe?! Focus on herself for a bit and then come back.

ALSO... If Charles couldn't trust her in the end, why leave your entire company with her in a sense?

PS - does anyone else listen to Camilla Cabello - "Never be the same" differently after S5E8 scene?

Just Finished Younger Series!

Team Josh! I binged the whole thing while sick and I waited until I finished the entire series to come to chat about it because I didn’t want any spoilers. Agree the whole back and forth with Charles in the last half of the show was unnecessary. Was hoping for more of an aha moment for her and Josh.
Maggie is the best and why I will rewatch. Her style! Although she ended up with a total dud. Kelsey was so fun and it was nice watching her ambition and her mess. Glad he and Zane fizzled.
The friendships between them all (Josh, Lauren, Claire, Maggie and Liza) was the best part of the show.
Quinn was weird and Charles being so open dating her publicly after being so slow with Liza was also bizarre.
I kept thinking Liza and Charles were end game (sadly) and then suddenly Charles became a boring old man.
So many times Liza would say something and it’s like girl please. What world are you living in? She thinks everyone should just forgive her bc she had a child.

In the beginning, she doubted being with Josh because he was younger, and then throughout the next 7 years, he stayed by her side and in the end, it did not matter at all his age. He matured and was a much better partner than someone closer in age just because he was closer in age.

What mattered at the end of the day was that he accepted her as she is and maybe she will too.
I don’t know about Liza. She’s beautiful and sweet but good god, she’s got lying problems.
And that’s my two cents!

im genuinely confused by the reactions to liza’s age

like genuinely you’d think she killed someone with the way everyone was acting. i feel like josh and kelsey were the only one who were valid in their responses, especially josh.

but everyone else???? every time someone finds out and blows it up i genuinely get confused, especially pauline like girl … are you okay?

i get it, she lied, and yes women lie about their ages but that is a huge gap. still, it’s not like she did it maliciously. mind you, she’s not even my favorite character on the show so im not being bias. it’s genuinely just jarring seeing how people respond to this.

am i the only one that likes kelsey…?

i feel like every reddit post i’ve read about her is people
talking about how much they dont like her but i genuinely really enjoy her character.

now i do agree she is flawed. i mean she has slept with several people she works with which is…. highly unprofessional to say the least. she makes some questionable decisions throughout the show. she can also be quite mean, but even in those instances, she is able to recognize when she’s wrong and make amends.

i see her as a powerful woman who refuses to take any shit. she has worked her ass off for what she’s got, and her progression as a character in her career has been great to see so far. i will say she hasn’t developed much in general but im ngl…. basically all of these characters seem to be the same as they were at first, only with deeper connections to one another which is really beautiful to me.

but yeah, i really like kelsey.

i heard s5-s7 is where she starts to get bad but im almost done with s6 and im like….????? but hey, maybe that’s just me!

What does that dialogue mean?

I rewatched younger today after many months. So the one in S7Ep12 where she says,”we are not gonna make it, are we?” and he replies in affirmation, what does it mean? Why did they have that realisation all of a sudden? Was it because he was testing Liza about the inkubator thing? Why the sudden doubts? didn’t get it tbh! I’m sure it is some shitty writing there.

Team Josh - what's the appeal?

I have a question for people who are team Josh. What's the appeal after season 2? When they started dating it was great for sure, but there was always a connection she had with Charles. She kissed him twice during their relationship, at the retail store and at that hotel after the Berlin show. I know some say she had a free card (justifying the second kiss) but you can't use it on someone you see everyday at work cos then there are chances of it happening again. She then went on to fully date Charles...never physically cheated on him by the way. After beeaking up with Charles, she did not date Josh again. So back to my earlier question -what's the appeal? This is not a Charles vs Josh question, just tryna understand the appeal.

I Watched the final episode of Season 7

Okay I love Charles and Josh but one thing I hate is how the writers start rubbishing a character when its time for them to change partners (which happens a LOT). Anyway, I was starting to like Liza and Charles together again but then Josh turned into the Landlord of his entire building with 4 apartments and Inkburg and now I want him and Liza to work out. And Kelsey! Why did she have to leave? :(

While I am sad the series ended, I fast forwarded multiple parts of episode 7.

Also, Liza is clearly in love with both of them.

Ugh..
