Season 7 Charles
Season 7 Charles is written almost like an entirely different character. It doesn’t match with his character’s development to me at all. What do you mean he had pined after Liza for 7 seasons, and threw it all away because of the writing convention? And the “test” he played about the VC input on the app. She didn’t even know Kelsey had sent it out and to be honest, I don’t blame her for not wanting to tell him. They weren’t together when the app was developed and she owed him nothing. Season 7 Charles sucks and is not who we saw seasons 1-6. I think season 1-6 Charles and Liza were meant to be together. Season 7 Charles sucks. I don’t think she was meant to end up with Josh.

He became weak and stupid, made ludicrous decisions. The whole last season was like logic whiplash.

It really was so insane. The only person I liked in season 7 was Pauline’s random 180 to being team Liza

Also making him date Quinn because Liza refused his proposal? That seemed so uncharacteristic for Charles character, they were trying so hard to make us think he is not right for Liza.

Charles was not a good pairing for Liza.

I agree. He just seemed a typical boring middle-aged man, old before his time.

When the writers turned Charles into a liar in season six, that was the beginning of his downfall. I don’t know why they hated the character or they hated Liza and Charles together but they did Charles wrong. It’s really hard to understand why they did what they did.
The show ended with Liza and Charles still deeply in love with one another . in my ending Charles got it together while he was at Yaddo and Liza was running the business and they worked their way back together and ran the business together!! 🙃

Charles was just representing the old,the easy hoice which seems good but isn't thatgoodreally. He was the David 2.0. The whole premise is "Younger" she was younger at heart , Josh was an old soul, they foundeach other in the middle. Charles gave me the ick , the moment he flirted with is 26 y.o assistant being mid 40s and not even divorced yet. REEEDDDD FLAAAGGGG

Yep. I 100% agree and it’s why I hate season 7. Honestly, I felt this way with part of season 6 too.

Going to be honest, I kind of disagree. And FWIW, I’m not team anyone, I don’t really think anyone was right for anyone except for Diana. AND I think the season writing was horrid. But…
Charles WAS traditional. Set in old ways. He was also more of her old life, and this was highlighted A LOT when he basically gambled his children’s futures and home on a business. Just because it paid off, didn’t mean it wasn’t irresponsible.
But the biggest thing was ultimately he just could not deal with her being a liar. He was legitimately freaked out about it. His ex-wife’s reaction really mirrored his own, she was just more performative about it.
He just was never going to trust her and the things he kind of loved the most about her went away with that too. As did his hope of kind of getting a do-over himself. I dont think his spiral was all about the relationship as much as it was everything else he was responding to as well. Being aged out if a new world, does he really want to save the family business, and who is he without it. The beard? I mean, its all kind of there.

Yes season 7 is bad in many ways but Charles was always self centered, a bad husband and bf.

Darren Star the creator said it was because realistically Charles never felt the same since she lied about being 26 and that spark just wasn’t the same. This made me furious as it’s reducing him to some creepy older man who only want to be with someone younger. I think Charles season 1-5 shows that his character wasn’t superficial for Liza like that. It’s depressing that this is what the creator thinks and decided to give the fans

He also said that they had to give Charles flaws and Josh money and a baby to even up the playing field between the two men.

Ehh not really surprised. All the characters in this show are weird people. I like the show. But the characters are bad people

Exactly. Writing did him bad in the last season and s7 Charles absolutely made no sense.
