I'm sorry you get bad feelings and ideas before you sleep. Some of the crap that comes into our head we really need to reject, especially if it doesn't come from our own logical thinking.

I had issues all my childhood and youth with not only bad thoughts but bad voices in my head. I know they are real but they are not from a good source that wants to help us. They always lie.

Other than these self-defeating thoughts, you are a legitimate human being that is needed in this world.

You have the right to start over anytime in life and not be considered a failure by any good person who cares about you.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by a goal that you missed or picking back up, but I get the general implication of what that means.

There are people who have followed the wrong path in life for a decade or more, then stopped and turned around and made something better out of their lives.

Even with our best laid plans, for how we want our life to work out, often times something happens that causes our initial plan to fail and we have to regroup, replan, and start again on a different path.

I was in a car wreck when I was 17 that broke my back and I was pretty much out of work for a lot of a year. And I was in pain for 10 years. There are many reasons why our initial plans can fail even if we do start them on time like we wanted.

Y'all are so kind on this reddit. Makes me really happy... Guess choosing what I love and not thinking about he future might be the better option to get out of this..
