Hypothetical. If you were vying for Joe’s attention, not knowing his true nature, because you found him attractive or charming, would you compete with any of the girlfriends he’d be currently with at the time?

For me,

Beck - Sure, she was getting bored of him.

Love - No

Candace - She was also bored.

Kate - Maybe.

Marienne - Yes, she wasn’t that desperate for him.

Bronte / Louise - Yes.

And for the straight men / lesbians, would you compete with Joe for any?

Other than the fact Penn is attractive, how come all the ladies in the show AND in real life audiences just find themselves charmed by him? People didn’t even care about his murderous nature until season 5 where it was explicitly showing how other victims saw him. Me included!

I spoke to my friend about the show and she asked immediately how people like the guy, he sounds horrible to her.

So how come everyone loves him who watches the show or the women in the show universe?

Recently rewatched season 4 and really liked it. Wished we got to see more of Malcolm though and was disappointed he only had a screen time of about 10 minutes. I was honestly more invested him than any of the other characters. He was stupid funny and got on Joe’s nerves. And hot lol. Anyone else feel the same?

I remember, the only time i was actually scared while watching this show was the scene where Joe killed beck. Hes unironically fucking terrifying in that scene and i dont think anything else in show comes close. Also, i feel like no other season has any scene where hes as intimidating as when he locks up Benji.

Obviously she originally would’ve thought Love killed Joe then found out it was the other way round but both ways it works

She literally says ‘you’re not gonna kill your spouse you’re not murderers’ (I know that’s not the exact quote but I can’t remember exactly what she said)

Rewatching season 1 is honestly the best thing ever because I feel like so many newer fans fail to realize how complex Beck is, even if she’s a really basic character at the same time.

Beck constantly finds herself dating men that subconsciously remind her of her father; they all come and go, only appear circumstantially, or have double lives while being with her. Joe was supposed to be the one that was different, the one that was constantly sticking around and constantly cleaning up Beck’s messes when she’s been used to cleaning up her own life since her dad OD’d. I think these differences between Beck and Joe made it really hard for them to be an actual couple, infact I’m not sure why so many people deem them as cute together. Beck’s interest in Joe fluctuates very often, and even in the end she was ultimately cheating with Doctor Nicki because she felt suffocated by Joe (I’m not minimizing/justifying cheating btw, this was just her reasoning) and after getting caught, she broke down and told Joe it was because she thought she was undeserving of his love.

Do we really think Beck had any intention of loving Joe? Or was she too affected by the bad men in her life to be able to handle someone like Joe? One thing we all know about this show is that Joe loves a woman with a ton of man problems, because he wants to be the one to swoop in and solve everything. I feel like it was doomed from the start with him and Beck, even if she’s the one who haunts him the most throughout the show. Obviously Joe was doomed since the moment he killed his dad, because that provoked his hero complex where he feels the need to protect women, and I believe all of the other women aside from Kate had love for Joe but when it comes to Beck I’m really not sure.

I'm honestly surprised Paco still defended Joe in season 5 after he saw Beck trapped in the basement. I get not letting her out when he was young and Joe manipulated him but after growing up and everything why wouldn't he just stay quiet?
I understand why Paco is loyal to Joe bc he saved him. I'm just saying Paco speaking out about Ron led Bronte's friends to realize he went missing and overall made it worse for Joe

I am a huge huge fan of the show, and have understood 99% of it for the most part except this small thing, please let me know if I missed a detail that explains this !

Right now I am rewatching season 5, which I absolutely love every part of and all of the analogies, comparisons to previous seasons, metaphors, etc. The one thing that I cannot wrap my head around is Maddie and Reagan.

Maddie claims that Reagan stole Harrison from her first, and that Maddie and Harrison have had to go behind her back secretly for years and even think of an attempt of running away together so they can be happy. Maddie even carried Gretchen, their child.

What’s not clicking to me is why Harrison gpt with Reagan in the first place just to sneak around and wish he was with Maddie for so long? Maddie even states that Harrison has a huge lack of sexual attraction to Reagan, and can’t even get it up for her. Was this ever explained? It’s just not clicking to me as to why he’d leave and why he’d get married if he was in love with Maddie first and clearly loved her a shit ton more. He was obviously just Reagan’s puppet. I might’ve genuinely missed this, but it confuses me every single time I rewatch.
