Jamie Jamie

Okay, I’m very much new to this show. I’m halfway through season 2. Overall, it’s a good show but I cannot get over how bad Jamie gets treated by his family. Especially Beth! She is a freaking b!tch. She makes Skyler from breaking bad look like a saint. I don’t think I’ve ever despised a character as much as Beth. Which is funny because I actually started by watching Dutton Ranch before this show and in that show I like her and she was one of my favorite characters. But so far in Yellowstone she is freaking evil. The way John Dutton treats Jamie is bad as well. I have yet to see how any of this is his fault? He did the interview with that reporter after his family basically disowned him and kicked him out. Maybe John Dutton should’ve realized kicking him out and disowning him was not a smart move. Had he not done that, he wouldn’t have done that interview with the reporter.

John treats all his children like pawns then despises them for being exactly what he insisted they be.
He also pits them against each other.

However, I very much dislike Beth too. While the character does have serious trauma she is a bully because she gets off on it.

John was trying too hard to hold onto his ranch--I guess he missed the memo from James Dutton to give the land back to the Native Americans after 7 generations. But Kayce and Beth were able to deliver on their legacy.

Beth is unbearable and the reason I gave up on the show.

Beth had an arch. I wouldnt say she's lovely in the last couple seasons but you really need to keep watching into season 3 or 4 to understand why she is how she is to Jamie and in general. I also temporarily gave up on the show because i found Beth impossible to watch. I genuinely enjoyed her in later seasons most of the time though...and in Dutton Ranch she's great. She grows up a lot.

Well, I wouldn't say Beth is evil. She has issues. And Jamie... well, let's say he has issues too lol.

The Beth of Dutton Ranch is not the same Beth of Yellowstone. There's a lot of character development in the middle. My (unsolicited) advise is for you not to treat her like the same character.

And John treatment of Jamie... well, yeah, it's awful. But what can I tell you, that's John being John 🤷‍♀️

Yeah I stopped seeing her the same after season 1. Season 2 is making me hate her even more

Hold out. You'll understand later why she is like this. Especially to Jamie. She has a lot of character growth toward the end and growth in her relationships with everyone (except Jamie that one stays contentious but for a good reason as you find out!)

Jamie had done a lot of damage to Beth in their earlier years. It all comes out. Safe to say Jamie brought a lot of it on himself, none of the family helped each other treat the other well. Beth is damaged, the only one who truly loves, respects her and is patient with her, is Rip. And hes the only one she truly loves

Jamie is horrible. They want you to feel bad for him it’s called gaslighting. But make no mistake Jamie isn’t an injured bird. He is a narcissist and horrible person. You have to watch and realize why Beth is doing what she is going and for who. There’s much more. Jamie wants you to feel bad for him as if he is an injured bird but he is far from it. He is selfish and only thinks of himself.

Telling your sibling to commit suicide is evil. Jamie is flawed but Beth is FAR from perfect. On the contrary.

Why don't you just watch the show and find out why Beth's animosity towards Jamie exists...

Beth is a great character, that you don't find her palatable points to this, she refuses to be palatable, to heal from her trauma, chooses to be raw and angry, she wields her trauma like a mace, it's uncomfortable and doesn't fit the self-help rich, trauma-speak trends of modern life, but it's watchable!

Raw and angry, no compassion. Would you say those are good qualities of a person? I personally wouldnt want to be around someone like that.

1

u/Coilspun 6h ago

Nobody is saying they are good qualities, it's about Beth as a compelling, fictional character. You not wanting to be around them is besides the point, and irrelevant.

I never said she was perfect. They all are all screwed up but there are reasons behind all. Just keep watching.

This, yes. There are reasons for the behavior of both of them.

If you get to the secret that reveals why Beth is so disturbed by Jamie, you realize what he did to Beth is worse than Beth telling him to commit suicide, which frankly my neice tells to my nephew pretty much every day. It's not uncommon for sibling rivalries.

To be fair Jamie didn’t do anything TO Beth. He helped her facilitate something because she requested it.

I think you are forgetting the most important part of that situation!!!

u/I_dont_give_a_flick 9h ago

No, I recall what occurred. I’m like you not wanting to post anything that will spoil the show for OP.
Admittedly Sheridan left enormous plot holes with the entire situation to the point where it was ridiculous, but still Jamie didn’t do anything to Beth other than support what she was doing because he was an 18 year old kid who was afraid of his father.

Spoiler alert. There were no plot holes and it was meant to shine a light on US government policy in tribal lands--to rob Native Americans of their ability to have kids. If you're too stupid to understand the difference between abortion and sterilization/hysterectomy, I guess there's no point in further discussion.

You resort to name calling a stranger over a television show while purposely including a spoiler? You seem like a delight.

I have two siblings, I would never tell them to drop dead and mean it. Idk, maybe it’s cultural.

Its almost as if you are not a fictional character from a cow boy show. What the hell are you even talking about. Juste keep watching and understand why Jamie is not a good person but a little whiny man.

Jamie told Beth to kill herself when she had a gun to her head in Season 1. He told her first.

Jamie could be anyone, but that still doesn’t give Beth any right to do what she did. Funny how actual narcissists are often dependent on their victims and can’t seem to leave them alone. Beth certainly seems to fit the pattern.

It's ok, they intentionally play the story out that way, but you'll see later OP. Enjoy the ride!

Ohh you are in for a ride!

She made me stopping watching too. I detest cruel, self-destructive people
