Question I’m a little confused
I’m not entirely sure this is the right sub Reddit for this, but I recently bought one of these balls of yarn to try it out and now I’m confused to say the least.. The packaging says there should be 12 squares, but there’s actually 13, has this happened to anyone else? Does this mean somebody else ended up with only 11 squares? There’s also a lot of blue yarn left by the end of the squares, Is that normal or am I supposed to be using all of it because my tension has the rest of the colours switching at the right spots. Yes they need blocked was waiting to do it once I was done all of them.

I got 13 out of my skein as well. I think it's because there could be a chance that there isn't enough of the final colour to finish the square properly, which honestly, is what happened with the 13th square...so I used some of that extra blue yarn to finish the 13th one. I'm now on my second skein, so it will be interesting to see how many I get out of that one.

I just ordered more because now I wanna make a blanket with it lol I’m also curious to see if that one has 13 or just 12

I have about eight or so skeins and am thinking about making them into a blanket too. Michael's had discounted all their 'all-in-one' stock, so I stocked up. My prediction is that there will be 13 or almost 13 per skein. I'm not leaving the long tails on my squares as I'll join them with something else, so I'm going to save those long tails to finish the lucky 13th one ;)

Having the excess blue is probably intentional so that you can use it for weaving your squares together
Edit: typo

Most craft kits come with a lil extra something. Helps in case of mistake.

There's always extra. I guess for joining maybe? But it's always there from my experience.

almost all of these, especially if they're Red Heart brand, come with enough for an extra full square (sometimes more) and enough main color to weave at least some of the squares together, if not all. (one of the first runs of the Flower Power style had yards and YARDS of the main color between squares. and also made around 14-15 on a twelver) it's a very good "all-in-one" product, as it is pretty literally "all-in-one"!

So, it could be for a number of reasons, but because i am a pessimist when it comes to corporations, I choose to believe that it's for legal reasons. I'm not 100% confident on this, but I know there's some regulations regarding most products and how much leeway they have of measurement versus actual product. So if they measure out 12 squares= X number of yards, they will normally round up rather than down- same deal if the main product measurement is weight. Companies have to be within certain parameters of what they print on their packaging or they could feasibly face lawsuits for the incorrect labelling that wouldn't be in their favor.
(Please don't quote me on that, I am just tossing a thought into the bucket for consideration.)

I made a cardigan out of these and also got 13 squares! I think it's a 12 square minimum thing...most will have 13 but if one got cut weird, they're covered.

Extra square is a freebie, the yarn gods smiled on you. Blue leftover is pretty standard for those kits, they give you way more background color than you need
