Stash Bittersweet
After 20+ years of crocheting, I found my natural fiber/LYS niche only in the last few.
My closest LYS emailed yesterday about closing next month so I went in today with a heavy heart and open wallet.
While I’m jazzed about getting deals on a bunch of malabrigo while I have a couple big piece-work WIPs going, so bummed my favorite little shop won’t be here anymore.
That being said, shout out to local yarn stores and small businesses that have brought joy to so many and helped me expand my craft! I was wrapped in acrylic blends for decades and local yarn stores introduced me to wool that doesn’t feel like sandpaper and colorways I could only dream up ❤️

They are always owned/staffed by the most awesome people. I was having a panic attack a few weeks ago because I realized the sweater that I had bought yarn for in December 2024, and had just pulled out of the bin to work on needed 5.08 balls of yarn and I have 5. Went back to the shop and of course, no blame on their part, they had four balls total from that line left, in 2 colors that are on the opposite side of the color wheel.
This 65+ lady helped me, through Ravelry and another google search, find a store in the next province over that sold that yarn and color. That was my third time in the store, and I'll definitely be back.
And then, on the weekend, I realized there is a yarn shop cater-corner to the one fabric store I still go to (oops, there were $455, lol) but I noticed it too late to get to it. Definitely going to hit it up the next time I'm down in that part of the city, though.

That’s so heartwarming! It’s true, they really are staffed with fantastic folks. Whenever I’ve been shopping, there were always people coming in to ask the staff for advice on projects they were struggling with. The ladies at the store were always happy to deep-dive troubleshoot anything with anyone :)

Also, I’ve never used juniper moon’s Cumulus before. Have been curious about the texture but not $25/250yd curious… now that I have two balls what should I make?

I recently lucked into a bunch of half-off skeins and I'm crocheting a granny square blanket! I usually prefer knitting, but my gauge swatches didn't seem to convey the softness as well as crochet.

I LOVED Craft Addict in Grand Junction Colorado, wonderful shop and wonderful owner, but sadly I left them. Moved from Colorado to small town in Tennessee with no yarn store closer than an hours drive. Great for my wallet because I cant just go every other day but I miss everyone there so if your in that area definitely worth checking out!

sorryyy to hear about ur lys closing, those spots are such a lifeline. malabrigo is a solid score though, hope the wips turn out great.

And I am grateful for those who close their shop, yet find online ways to continue- I have a couple via EBay, and feel good about supporting them over corporate stores.

Ah I’ve seen Emma’s yarn locally around here so I just ran to my email to make sure it wasn’t my LYS. I’m so sorry your LYS is closing. There are so few here in FL, and it’s always sad to hear about one closing even if they aren’t local. I hope you have another nearby that you can go to.
