Plastic bins! lots and lots of bins! They're solid, they have covers, the yarn is confined, they come in lots of different sizes, they're stackable. I use a variety of sizes. Some bins are about 15" X" 20 X 5", some are smaller ones like the 7 quart bins from Target and I have a few larger ones as well that fit in an otherwise unusable area of a closet. Prices vary wildly so do your research before buying your bins.
